Do any of our comic book people know who that blonde ninja is on Agent Carter?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) ND is a very odd team. The best or nearly the best in the nation in offensive efficiency, FG %, low turnover rate, etc., but they absolutely can't stop anybody on defense. They will probably have to play zone to handle Okafor. If Duke runs cold from the outside and ND gets a hot shooting night, ND could win this game. Duke could also win by double digits. I've only seen them play twice this year, and I know they can shoot but they aren't physical at all. This is an uncharacteristically physical Duke team with pretty good size

So Duke being -1.5 at ND is a trap right? Still not convinced this ND team is quite this good

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 09:55 AM) Not only that, but then how do you make a "fair" flat tax out of property taxes so that the poorer pockets of the US don't always end up with substandard schools. Even with the massive subsidies and reallocation of state and Federal funding, "inner city" schools are nowhere close to performing adequately. Imagine if that funding was cut by 25-50%. If it hasn't happened already, it would essentially be creating a permanent underclass of citizens with little to no chance at upward mobility. Maybe we need to look at the Finnish solution, which is only allowing the Top 10-15% of the top universities in the country to become teachers...and allocate them "evenly" across all the public schools. I think the "flat tax" usually is just in reference to income tax. Property taxes would still depend on other factors

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 06:25 PM) Where did I suggest that? We should all pay an equal proportion. Kinda simple. I agree with this and also don't understand why there are objections to it. I do think there should be a buildup to the flat tax % but that floor should not be too high.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) On the other hand, wouldn't he also be faulted later on for not properly saving for his own retirement? If someone goes to law school and then decides that they don't want to practice law after graduation, they should not be able to just say f*** it to their (presumably) massive loans because they ended up with a much lower than expected paying job and can not afford to keep as much as they initially thought they would. That's obviously an extreme example, but that's why the program, which has great intentions, is a poorly operated one.

I really like Richard Sherman as well and Russell Wilson is one of my favorite non-Chiefs, but I am on board with not liking Marshawn Lynch though. Pete Carroll, Doug Baldwin and that no wannoying 12th man crap are also tough to root for though. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) So I shouldn't take advantage of a program that exists. Instead I should make sure I have less money as I get older. I should act against my own self interest. In other words, I should act like the majority of folks who vote Republican. Got it. You're looking out for yourself. For better or worse that's what you're doing, and no one can tell someone who is doing that that they are wrong. However, this is not what the rule was meant for. If a person is able to put away a significant amount of money then they should not able to take advantage of that program IMO. The program is not meant to pay back what you feel like you want to in order to maximize how much you can have forgiven 25 years later. Because what is forgiven is paid back by everyone else who follows the rules. So like you said, maybe you should act more like those who vote Republican instead of those who tend to vote Liberal.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) Don't try to tell me that 67-0 and 79-0 games were fixed! Maybe you saw this, but Grantland broke down how rampant fixing is in the Nigerian Premier League just based on how rarely a home team loses. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/so-about...tch-in-nigeria/ That's actually what I was referencing I didn't read it on Grantland but I had read more into that story a while back and just laughed.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) Belize had some players propositioned at last year's Gold Cup against the US. It could affect the totals. Propositioned, yes. Players have still been investigated in recent years in the Championship, Serie A, national leagues in the balkans, etc...but coverage is so widespread and thorough now that it's not really something people should worry about in major leagues and events. Now, if you're betting on the 10th tier of English football, or the 3rd tier Albanian league or almost any domestic African league, then yes, you should not be surprised if something comes up fishy Edit: I'd be much more worried about someone (or official) being on the take in an NBA game today than a major soccer league.

New MLB Commish suggests ban on shifts

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) An interesting idea thrown out there was forcing relievers to face a minimum of two hitters per appearance. First of all, that would speed the game up some, instead of having a pitching change every batter. Secondly, that could help decrease strikeouts. With all these specialists whose only job is to face one batter, they have become very good at striking that batter out. If a LOOGY also had to face a RHB when you brought him in, that would change a lot. I like that idea, except I would alter the rule to be two batters or the end of an inning, whatever comes first. If the pitcher comes on with 2 outs and gets his first batter out, then he can be replaced at the start of the next inning -

This is basically akin to telling NBA teams they can't press teams that have poor ball handlers or they can't play a zone against a poor shooting team or telling a defender he can't shade to the ball handler's dominate side and make him go to his weak hand etc... It's ridiculous. I understand the end game he's going for with increased scoring, but this is not the way to do it. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 05:06 PM) Rigged games. Paid off officials. Paid off players. That doesn't really happen in major internationals anymore with the coverage that they get.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) Louisiana >>> snake, gator, shimp lots of shimp and crawfish. I'm going to New Orleans in a few weeks, I know you can get gator but do you really see snake on menus down there?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 12:38 AM) Real Madrid wants to buy De Gea for 65 million pounds. That would make him the most expensive keeper in the history of soccer. Real Madrid has all of the money -
QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) Always on my mind when it involves Asian or African international matches. Maybe in domestic leagues (hello, Nigeria!) or obscure friendlies but not in a major international tournament. Those days are mostly over with all the coverage these events get now. It can still happen, and does even in Europe, but I'm not too worried about when it comes to significant events

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 08:15 PM) If there's one knock on Hahn, he's had some terrible luck with his deadline tradebait. The Peavy deal could wind up being highway robbery

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 07:40 AM) Any worries about the corruption in Int'l soccer? Worries with what?

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) I probably missed my opportunity to bet as I saw this post late. I'll check on this thread daily in the morning before work. Burkina Faso drew so you're good. They had 3 posts and have now had 38 shots through 2 matches and have yet to score

2014-2015 NFL Football thread

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) Maybe I'm crazy, but in a head to head matchup of videotaping practices vs deflating balls, I don't really care about the deflated tactics. Take away some picks, sure. But I just don't think playing with a very slightly modified ball changes the game that much to matter. I agree but I don't think it's really about the affect of the action at this point. This is an organization that now has an established history of cheating. More than anything, it's embarrassing for the NFL and the brand. Whether it's organizational or truly just Belichick focused, the NFL needs to put their foot down here to establish that these types of things are not allowed. If this was the first time, it wouldn't be as big of a deal, but there is now an established pattern from this organization. -

QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) But losing a first and a second for 3 straight years? Losing two firsts alone, I agree, will not cripple a franchise. The Bears did that in the Cutler trade and were relatively fine. There is a big difference between 2 first round picks and 3 first round picks and 3 second round picks. I missed that someone said for 3 years. I agree that's a bit much, but I'd be fine with 2 years or just 1sts for 3 years. Patriots don't like it? Stop cheating. This is their second time they've been caught doing something. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) You obviously don't follow the NFL if you think that's an appropriate fine. 1st and 2nds? Not a chance. That would kill an organization. Not going to happen. QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 10:16 AM) Yeah, that would be similar to the death penalty in the NCAA. That isn't going to happen in professional sports. I think this whole thing is being overblown though. The Saints lost back to back 2nd round picks because of the bounty scandal. Flat out cheating, and when it's not the first time, is a worse offense to the integrity of the league. Losing two firsts is not crippling or equal to the NCAA death penalty. You'd have to forfeit all your picks for 3 years to make that statement. Losing 2 first round picks at the end of the 1st round will not come close to crippling your franchise. -
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) Can you list your bets you make? I watch soccer but I'm not very knowledgeable about it. I pretty much bet on any sport as long as I have some information. I like Burkina Faso today and the over 2 in Gabon/Congo

QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) Do you just follow international soccer a ton or do you get information from somewhere? I follow soccer a ton. I pay attention to the 5 major Euro leagues plus , English Championship, Norway, Eredevisie, MLS and kind of Brazil. But I love international soccer and try to follow as much as possible, even in the under-23/under-20/under-17 ranks. I don't pay that close of attention to Asia or South America, but I love European and African soccer on the international level.

Had another nice day in the AFCON. Hit on Senegal DNB +120, Ghana/Senegal O2 (-125), Algeria ML +110 and Algeria/South Africa O2 +105 I love international soccer
