  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) It was Laroche was it not? I'm at work I'm not watching every pitch I could be wrong but was it not 3-0 and he swung? Laroche took his 3-0 pitch for a called stirke.
  2. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) down 4 runs we are swinging away 3-0. This team is just dumb. It was 3-1. And Abreu probably has a better chance of driving himself in than trying to get hit around by his teammates this game anyway
  3. What a putrid sequence of at bats those were from Shuck and Soto. Ugh.
  4. Brandon Spikes just can't believe the jury found his buddy guilty
  5. So the price on Bayern Munich away to Porto has dropped to almost EVEN in most places. Porto is great at home but will probably be missing Jackson Martinez and Christian Tello. I know Bayern is a little banged up right now but shouldn't they be much greater favorites here? I just can't see Porto having the ability to stop them.
  6. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 04:40 PM) Too bad our manager doesn't realize simple things like this :/ This has nothing to do with our slow start, but I really do think Robin Ventura is a pretty terrible game manager.
  7. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Yeah the Sox sent him to the minors to save themselves a bunch of money Nope.
  8. On a different topic, I think it's really cool that Alexei is wearing a #9 Minoso jersey today (and that MLB allowed it)
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 10:24 AM) I had a "friend" in college who asked me to be in his wedding. His father was a lawyer, his fiancee's father was a doctor, and they were spending about $25K on the wedding (and this was back in 1993). Tux rental was going to be $120. I was a grad student and told him there was no way I could afford that on top of the cost of traveling to the wedding. He found someone else to be in the wedding who could afford the tux. Yeah with the bachelor party being in New Orleans, travel to the wedding, hotels, etc this wedding is going to cost me around $2K.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) Woah woah woah. Stop the clock. I have to pay for my tux? F that Yep. The tux for the wedding I am a part of in May is costing me around $230
  11. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) If they sign up to do it for a paycheck that's the whole problem man. The only qualification then for becoming a cop is to give up on your hopes and dreams to take the free ride. That's my point. So therefore they shouldn't act like pricks since they are living on our dime, admitting they don't want to participate in the economy. They should act like butlers instead of pricks. You can't have it both ways. I'm sorry, but that is one of the dumbest sentiments I've ever heard. The overwhelming majority of people in this country do what they do for the paycheck. Very few people have the luxury of being able to make a living at their dream job.
  12. This was the most one sided officiated championship I can recall. Just brutal watching the last 15 minutes of this game. Wisconsin goes on their run and gets up 8 or 9 and then bam. Foul, foul, foul, foul, foul on Wisconsin. 1) Winslow plows through a guy on an obvious charge - block call 2) Winslow bowls over a player after a pass - no call 3) Tyus Jones throws his shoulder into Koenig's jaw - Wisconsin foul 4) Duke flop on the block - Offensive foul Wisconsin 5) Winslow steps on the line right in front of the official - play on 6) To everyone in the world outside of Duke Nation, the ball goes off Winslow - Duke ball I feel bad for Wisconsin in this one. Impossible to win playing 5v8 like they did that second half. This is right up there with the Lakers-Kings Game 6 fiasco in my opinion
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) After the game I started looking at "where are they nows', yedlin is hidden on the bench and apparently Green is throwing a hissy fit and is on the U23 for hamburg. Not the progress they hoped for I'm sure. This year's been a mess for Green. Supposedly Pep really likes him though and Bayern aren't worried about him. He'll almost assuredly go out on loan somewhere again next season though. It wouldn't be bad for him to play a year in the Netherlands honestly. Yedlin picked up a knock right after the move to England and Spurs want to take it slow with him. He may not make his debut until the fall. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) If we're going to be decent at the 2018 WC, we're going to need to find a good forward to replace Dempsey. He'll be too old to be our best offensive player 3 years from now. If he is our best player up front by then, we're going to have some issues. I do like what Zardes did for the Galaxy last year. Now that Keane and Donovan are gone, he's their best attacking player. It'll be interesting to see how he progresses. Edit: apparently Keane's not leaving the Galaxy, I swear I read something that he was going to a few months back. He's a good mentor for Zardes. I like Zardes a lot too. He showed some nice flashes in their recent friendlies. I'm excited about Rubin. It'll be interesting how the U-20's look this summer in the World Cup. We need someone out of the Rubin, Agudelo, Green group to make a big stride in the next couple years. Maki Tall could be a dark horse for down the line as well if he commits to the US. Edit: And as far as youth soccer goes, I do pay a lot of attention to the YNTs and we have a really strong group of 15-19 year olds right now. Rubin, CCV, EPB, Hyndman, Pfeffer, Canouse, Flores, Novakovich, Gall, Gooch, Haji Wright, Barbir, Gallardo, Josh Perez, Xuxuh, etc...and a bunch of dual nats that could potentially play for us down the road: Zelalem obviously, the Scott brothers (English), Parker brothers (Germany), Tall (France, Ivory Coast), Robert Kenedy Nunes (Brazil). It really is exciting to see how many Americans are drawing interest from prominent clubs in Europe right now.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 02:42 PM) I think Emmanuel Adebayor a few season ago is what Jozy could have looked like if he figured it out and had a better cast around him. Similar size and skill-set as a striker. Good call. And there's nothing wrong with that. Just the USMNT can't rely on that if they want to progress. Jozy as what he is, is a complementary piece capable of playing on the big stage, but they can't put him in a position where he is the one they primarily look to and rely on. For better or worse, he's still our best option at the moment IMO.
  15. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) Alright, someone needs to hook me up with a streaming link while I decide if purchasing MLB.tv is worth it. It's not really a debate. If you live out of town and enjoy baseball it is completely worth it. $130 for 162 games (minus Saturday afternoon plus Sunday ESPN primetime games) for every team outside of your market available on your TV, PC, tablet, cell phone, PS3/PS4/Xbox? It's hard to argue how it's not worth it. I've had it for 4 or 5 years now and it's a no brainer for me to renew every year.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) He's a bulldozer, but he's just not skilled enough like a Diego Costa or even Wilfried Bony to play as a lone striker. If you put him in a 2 striker formation or a formation with a high CF/CAM that can provide, you're right, he can succeed. IMO, a good striker can play by himself. That way, he can succeed in almost any formation/function. I think a lot of USMNT fans expected him to take the next step forward when he moved to the BPL, but it just didn't happen. The funny thing is, I think he would have fit in perfectly in a spot like Tottenham. Getting service from Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli would have provided him a lot more chances.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 5, 2015 -> 01:13 AM) Because Altidore's kinda bad... The only times where Jozy's actually looked decent recently is with the USMNT. He was pretty bad for Sunderland. Otherwise, he'd still be playing in the BPL. Jozy is not a target forward who can create his own shots. The problem at Sunderland was they had no one to play up top with him and no one to give any sort of service. He also looked lost on the field a good amount of time but he's hardly awful. You don't score 50+ goals over two seasons in any league (even the high powered Dutch league) by being awful. He's a fine player but with distinct limitations.
  18. George RR Martin's website published another sample chapter from Winds of Winter today. Not going to summarize it in case GoT watchers see this. Sample Alayne Chapter
  19. Now that it's official I wonder if Rosenthal/Morosi/Olney etc will have another hissy fit about it like they did with Kris Bryant a week ago.
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 1, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) http://www.abc57.com/story/28681598/rfra-f...ame-sex-service Because, you know, so many people have pizza at their weddings. I know it's not your point, but we had pizzas ordered to the hotel bar for our guests who stayed after the reception was over.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2015 -> 10:07 AM) Here is my problem with this whole idea. If we are really to accept that this is based on biblical Christianity somehow, and by someone's warped interpretations of the bible, you as a Christian can't serve anyone who is living a life of sin, I have news for you... Your business is going to suck, because your only potential customer is Jesus Christ himself. It's not about the religious aspect (I know it is in this case) but I was more or less using examples of private ownership offering owners a choice. If you were a wedding photographer and you knew the groom abused his wife to be would it be okay to refuse to photograph that wedding?
  22. QUOTE (Boogua @ Mar 31, 2015 -> 10:57 AM) This game will probably go a long way in determining who goes number 1 overall if it happens. If Okafor is able to be guarded 1 on 1 it has to hurt his stock a bit. It shouldn't IMO. KAT should go number 1. I want no part of Okafor if I'm an NBA team. The guy doesn't play defense and his FT shooting is so abysmal you almost have to pull him off the court late in a close game. Towns has a little less offensive potential but his defense could be elite and he shoots 80% from the line. I'm taking that guy 10 out of 10 times if I was an NBA GM
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 31, 2015 -> 08:13 AM) I just don't buy that the baker should have the right to not produce a cake for an "objectionable" event. I think people are trying to stretch the act of baking a cake into some kind of endorsement or approval of the event the cake is for, and I think that's an overreach of "religious freedom." QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 31, 2015 -> 08:49 AM) I wouldn't label it religious freedom, I think of it the same way that I do this forum. As an owner Jas can decide what is written on his website by his customers. Replace a cake for the website and it is how I am thinking of it. That's the key point. If it is a private ownership they can kind of do what they want. Although stupid and fiscally irresponsible, if a Christian baker did not want to make a cake for a Bah Mitzvah or a Muslim baker did not want to make a cake for a baptism, that is their right as that business owner to choose not to do it.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 11:40 AM) I think their biggest test was already passed in Notre Dame. I said Kentucky from day one, and I see no reason to change my mind now. Wisconsin is a better team than ND QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) You guys don't think Wisconsin can knock off Kentucky? Yes I do. The line on Kentucky has already dropped 1.5 points since it opened so that sentiment is being shared. Kentucky is the favorite of course but this Wisconsin team does match up about as well as a team can with UK. Kaminsky and Dekker can't get into foul trouble or they'll be done but Wisconsin has a definite chance. MSU would get blown out and I don't think Duke would keep it closer than 6 or 7.
  25. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 03:50 PM) You cannot be socially liberal if you are fiscally conservative...the two things are opposites. A socially liberal person spends money (even if they don't have it) on all types of social issues, such as helping the poor, building parks, fixing roads, etc...even if it accrues massive debt in doing so. Therefore...you cannot be one if you are the other, as a fiscally conservative person would NOT spend money they don't have. This topic makes as much sense as the nWo helping Sting at Wrestlemania. I don't believe that is true. Gay marriage, legalization of marijuana and prostitution, relaxed gambling laws, immigration reform are all issues that I consider to be social issues that the hard core conservative party probably has much different views on than I do.
