  1. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) There are 9000 employees in Fort Worth LM plant... they were all told that if the F-22 goes... a lot of them could be gone. I'm so excited about that, I can't tell you how happy that makes me! Lockheed in Owego, NY hired a lot of engineers in the past few years for the sole purpose of working on the presidential helicopter. If that goes so will the vast majority if not all of those employees
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) What about the increase in defense spending? That might add a few jobs. It may. I do know for a fact though that a couple of these proposed program cuts have some defense contractors very worried and the potential for large layoffs are on some of their tables. (Lockheed Martin being the one that is most likely)
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) Anyways, back to honesty in economic figures reporting... I wonder what job losses really look like, and how bad things will look with all of the high paying defense jobs the White House just axed? http://norris.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/06...g-revised-down/ I work for a company that supplies a lot of parts to government contractors. I know Lockheed Martin has already announced that if they do indeed lose the presidential helicopter contract (for which they have been doing work on for years already) they will be doing massive layoffs. BAE, Navistar, General Dynamics, OshKosh and some other companies were bidding on one of the tank contracts that got axed so those sites will probably suffer some because of it too. Not to mention the Northro Grummans of the world who make all the avionics equipment for the F-22s...
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) Actually this is even clearer http://www.usefoundation.org/foundation/re...eral.asp?CID=13 From the CIA World Factbook
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 09:06 PM) Your article, I can presume only entirely by accident because what motivation would they have to make things look bad for the Democrat...left out some key, key polling data. From your piece: The small bit they left out: You better hope that Cuomo has a hooker problem if you think the Republicans can beat those numbers with Rudy. Don't underestimate the number of New Yorkers who love Giuliani and will vote for him on name recognition alone though
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) There's also no such thing as a semi-automatic machine gun. I meant the AK-47 style gun...so automatic machine gun
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) I'd be game for trying the things you just suggested...more screening than a simple background check when people try to buy them. Yes, people with sketchy mental history (the Va Tech shooter) should never be allowed to purchase a gun. I'm sorry but those "problems" never go away. Also, if they arent completely banned already, civilians should not be able to purchase any type of military style semi-automatic machine gun. I see no reason someone would need one. Events such as what happened in Pittsburgh and Binghamton will never go away, unfortunately. But I think the absolute wrong course of action would be to ban guns completely. And I dont think there is any way to completely prevent these things from happening either. It'd be nice, but it's not realistic. You can't control lunacy. That's the thing about living in such a free society, there will always be people on the fringe who try to f*** up life for everyone else.

  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 07:50 AM) Telling people what to do and not listening to them? Sounds amazingly like George W Bush to me. But this is all different
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 05:20 PM) Lie To Me looks interesting. I've seen it a couple of times, it's entertaining
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) I wanted to throw out there that I was really impressed with not only the finale of ER, but the entire final season. Instead of doing all of the really cliche crap they could have done at pretty much every turn, the show really pressed hard to stay true to the original seasons. Even as they brought back characters, they didn't take the easy way out. For example in the episode with Clooney and Margulies, they could have so easily had them find out that the kidney was for Carter and had him do the whole over the top, break the rules, emotional thing that would have just been ultra-cheesey. Instead they kept it at everyone doing their jobs to the best of their ability. The final episode was really done in the same fashion. Kudos to the show, I am going to miss it. Agree completely. I was impressed with the final episode/season as well. I too will miss it in Thursday evenings
  12. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 06:55 PM) Jeff Adrien is such a piece of s***. The whole UConn program is a joke. Two national championships in the past 10 years, perennial powers, many alum now stars in the NBA so yeah ok... And if you're referring to the "throw down" get over it, he didnt even touch him when he swung his arm to get him off of him. Nice to see the UConn guards completely fail to show up Saturday. No point in staying up to watch the blowout tonight. Why the hell is the game slated for a 9:21 tip off?
  13. QUOTE (Soxy @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) Have you heard anything about the who or why? No i keep hearing conflicting reports from a couple of places. Hard to tell what is rumor and who actually has connections so I dont want to post things that are not true.
  14. QUOTE (Soxy @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Have they caught the third person--apparently there was a foot chase on the court street bridge? Havent heard but apparently the police have confirmed to the governor's office that there are 13 dead inside the building. So it could rise depending on what happens to those taken to the hospital.
  15. I'm amazed they were able to arrest these men alive. Not often do these situations end without the perpetrators killing themselves.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) It is all about the right to marry. Now every person in Iowa can get married. Every single one. Gay or straight. They were already allowed to. It was about the right to marry whom (trying to recall The Office debate about when to use who/whom)
  17. Someone at work just got a call from someone and she said they have arrested two asian men and there may be up to 16 dead.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Polygamy results in abuse at a high frequency, and first-cousin marriage results in children at an astronomically high rate for all sorts of problems. In both cases, the societal damage is documented and huge. Gay marriage does no such thing - it doesn't promote abuse any more than any other marriage, and it doesn't result in retarded or handicapped children. If it is all about rights and such I don't see any difference at all. If I wanted to marry my cousin why can't I? (I know I could in some states but in general i'm fairly confident you can't). As for polygamy leading to a high frequency of abuse, well, what's to say I wouldn't be in a loving relationship with 3 or 4 wives who all loved each other? Nothing. Should medically retarded people be allowed to marry each other? I'd think they'd have a pretty high chance of having children with problems. I mean how can you (not you directly) claim it's all about the "right to marry" and yet still deny it to others. I believe gay people should be able to engage in a civil union with all the legal rights and privileges that a marriage allows. I also believe in civil unions b/w two consenting individuals with no sexual relationship. For example, my grandmother has two friends, sisters, who never married or had kids and lived 100% of their adult lives in the same house. I believe they, or any other pairing that makes sense, should be allowed to have the legal privileges a civil union could provide. But to me, the term marriage is a union between a man and a woman. You will never change my opinion on that.
  19. QUOTE (Soxy @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:34 PM) Most outlets are still reporting 5 shot and 41 hostages. Poor Binghamton. Nothing good seems to happen to this area. That blog and message board keep hinting that many more may have been shot. Hoepfully they are wrong. Im trying to get ahold of a friend of mine whose brother is a cop but i havent heard back yet.
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain.....motherf***er. So there's nothing wrong with polygamy or first-cousin marriages then right?
  21. Live blog http://www.pressconnects.com/apps/pbcs.dll...3028&Ref=AR Local Message Board http://bcvoice.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17353 Some are saying the suspect may be on the run now and up to 13 people may be dead.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) So does the Taliban. They also supported Obama Or was that Al-Qaeda?
  23. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) little to none, but I disagree with it. Wow, i agree with you on something...
  24. Chicago is supposed to be being visited by the IOC today through next wednesday by the way.
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) Regardless of what you may think of media bias, one thing I can guarantee they wouldn't do in either case, is show the video on MSM news networks or websites. No way that happens. Did the Kate Moss footage ever make MSM or just internet vids? If it made MSM I'd bert someone would eventually pick up a screen shot and report. But how stupid do you have to be? I mean you're the vice-president's daughter your life is now under a microscope...
