  1. Probably late May-June...thats when it was in 2002
  2. Very, very nice to see Honel pitching well again recently
  3. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=337498&cc=5901 For those that care, the U.S. won 3-1 (0-0) on penalty kicks to beat Panama to win the Gold Cup. The U.S played without many regulars although Donovan, Beasly, Keller and O'Brien all played. This is the U.S.'s 3rd Gold Cup win. For those that dont know the Gold Cup is played against CONCACAF teams, that is, teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean. Also, sometimes other countries are given invites to play in it as Columbia was this year. The U.S. next plays in August (i think 17th) against Trinidad in the WC Qualifiers.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Apparently you havent looked at the AL West lately. The Rangers are at a downfall and Oakland is on the rise. While the Rangers are hovering around .500 mark the A's just tied the twins for the wildcard. Oh I know, but when you look at Oakland's team do they scare you? I dont know how they're doing as good as they are right now. On the other hand, Texas' offense is insane. All they need is their pitching to be just average.
  5. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) Not a huge fan of any team in the AFC West quite frankly, though San Diego is a solid team as well. Sonix got a little riled up about people still having KC in 3rd place...personally, I see them either being a very solid team, potentially being a 10-12 win team, or I view them being mediocre to bad again, with 6 to 8 wins. Derrick Johnson was only like my boy during the weeks prior to the draft, so I have to like their defense a little bit, if not just because of him. Ya, I'm probably biased, but I see them as an 11 or 12 win team. And most people dont realize that they'll have 5-7 new defensive starters this year. SD is a good team but i really dont see Oakland doing anything in the West and the Broncos I dont think are as good as last year
  6. The thing with Carolina is they missed Jenkins pretty much all year, same with Smith. Also, Rucker too had a down year. With all of them healthy again, their defense is extremely solid, even with the loss of Fields. Colbert makes up for the loss of Muhammad and if Stephen Davis isnt 100% they have DeShaun Foster and a decent rookie (whose name i forget, out of Maryland i believe) backing him up. and now they have their Super Bowl team back almost in full, but now with more experience. While I dont think they'll make the Super Bowl, I have to consider them potential Super Bowl contenders.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:04 PM) Actually, he made a very good point. But its the same thing countless people bring up in game threads in response to those dumb posts/threads he has referenced. Just my OPINION, but i dont think we needed a thread entirely devoted to this. But again, its my opinion. Obviously most people disagree
  8. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) How can you say NL East wihtout a doubt when AL West teams had a 25-23 record against the NL East? It's close, but if you take out each team's record against Washington, the AL West owned the East. Because if you look at the AL West Texas and Anaheim immediately scare you. However, Oakland is an average team while Seattle is a cupcake. In the NL East you have no one who scares you as Anaheim does, but you have no cupcakes. Atlanta is Atlanta. The Mets, as usual, have a good but underachieving team. Philly is off and on. The Nats are pretty good. And the Marlins are hugely underachiveing. I think its very close, with Anaheim and Texas being the top 2 teams, but I would put the next 4 out of the NL East and Seattle just sucks. Its about even but an edge to the NL East. I probably shouldnt have said "without a doubt".
  9. It would be insane to throw Valido into that deal, IMO. One, because I think thats too high of a prospect to deal for a rent-a-player in Alex Gonzalez but also b/c we have no other real MI prospects (unless you count Getz). I think the Marlins would accept Uribe for Gonzalez in that deal b/c Uribe is young and signed and they could platoon him with Easley for a couple years until Andino is ready. Plus, Gonzo is a FA at the end of the year and I dont think they're gonna resign him. However, now the problem for us is if we trade Uribe our potential SS's for next year would be Ozuna cuz we have no one at AAA or AA that could play, meaning we would be obliged to go out and get a FA SS and I dont know who would be available at the end of the year. If we were to try to get Gonzalez as well I'd prefer to keep Uribe and trade a prospect not in our top 10-12 (which includes Valido). I would be willing to trade an Owens, Baj, Fields (RP), Whisler type prospect for him. The Marlins would probably bite on a Baj and Fields package. ( I doubt they'd take Owens just b/c Eric Reed is the same player but with a higher potential).
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) You.Are.Dumb Why? Because you're assuming i didnt read the whole thread and didnt get what he was saying? No, i did. And it was still a pointless thread.
  11. NL East Every time over .500 and the Marlins in LAST place? Ya, thats the best division in baseball without a doubt. Do they have the best team(s) in the league? No. But top to bottom they're the best
  12. Given the Mets record of trading top prospects for players they think they absolutley need, it would be interesting (although doubtful) to see if the Mets would give up Petit or Milledge for PK.
  13. I'm probably alone on this but i'd rather take on Alex Gonzalez than Mike Lowell. Crede seems to be playing better recently (and costs about 7million less) but Uribe has been just flat out awful lately. All in all, I dont know what to think about this trade. If we could wrap AJ up for a few seasons I like it, but if its just as a rental it isnt worth it.
  14. Granted, I'm a huge Chiefs fan, but i find it hard to believe people can predict 3rd and 4th place division finishes for them. They didnt lost anything on offense and added Ashley Ambrose, Patrick Surtain, Carlos Hall, Kendrell Bell, Sammy Knight, and Derrick Johnson on 'D' and get Mike Maslowski (leading tackler in '03) back from injury when he missed all of '04. Especially when you see that the Chiefs play teams like Oakland twice, Miami, NYG, Houston, and the 'Skins Anyways... NFC NORTH: Packers NFC EAST: Eagles NFC SOUTH: Panthers NFC WEST: Rams NFC WILD CARD: Falcons NFC WILD CARD: Lions AFC NORTH: Steelers AFC EAST: Patriots AFC SOUTH: Colts AFC WEST: Chiefs AFC WILD CARD: Chargers AFC WILD CARD: Bengals NFC Champion: Eagles over Panthers AFC Champion: Steelers over Chiefs Super Bowl Champion: Eagles
  15. Todd Jones : Not going anywhere unless the Marlins fall out of it (he closes b/c Mota can't handle it, aka he is not expendable) Hernandez: Wouldnt be a "good enough" upgrade to bother Wheeler: Doubt the Astors would part with him Baldwin: Um, no Wagner: No need to comment. He will cost an arm and a leg but we all know how good he is Villone: Possibility, I wouldnt mind him but a LR isnt a priority right now Rusch: As with JB...please no
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) IIRC he has the same bday as me, so that should be worth something. And if by something you mean nothing...
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:56 AM) Am I the only one who prays that we don't get Burnett? We'd give up a ton for someone who I don't think would make a huge difference. I agree with you about it.
  18. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) Tough to win when you score 4 runs against Boston. Our offense is killing us. Not as much as our defense has.
  19. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) No, you can't only score 4 runs against Boston and expect to win. Our offense has to step up at some point. Especially with Boston's crappy bullpen. No but when you have 4 runs and are WINNING and that happens you can
  20. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) question: mlb gameday has mark line w/ 4 ER. Why isn't it 3? Can't assume the DP
  21. There's a shocker, Uribe chases ball 4 and whiffs... Come on Pods, start us off again
  22. I dont wanna get all over Gooch cuz he's been solid this year, BUT....that was just horrible and may cost us the game
  23. Buerhle should not be allowed much more of a leash. He isnt on his 'A' game today.
