First major siginings of the off-season for anyone. Good signings for the Panthers to add some veterans to their young core of players. http://www.nhl.com/news/2005/08/231556.html

Diaz and Munoz both pitched much better than Adkins. Why is he up here again?
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) I'd like to know how good those two prospects are. I find it hard to believe we couldn't top that. It would've been a nice "f*** you" to Florida, too, for the whole Burnett thing. Bazardo was their top pitching prospect behind Olsen and Vargas and was a BA top 100 guy
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) What about Arnie Munoz? He's doing MUCH better than Adkins, pitching in the same tiny ballpark. Adkins has a f***ing 5.58 ERA. He sucks. He's giving up a homer every six innings. He doesn't strike a lot of guys out, showing he's not fooling anyone at AAA. I'm just pissed in general, so I hope you don't think I'm pissed at you. I'd rather call up Munoz or Diaz to come out of the pen than Adkins

Which Sox Prospects do you Think Are Untouchable
ChiSox_Sonix replied to White Sox Josh's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) no way, sweeney is all hype with no production...yeah hes young but ehs got 0 pop....the best he could turn into is another jeremy reed without speed...he has yet to hit a single homer, correct? He's also playing in a field where HRs are extremely hard to hit. Sweeney is one of the youngest players in AA and has time to develop power. According to BARONS he has hit several doubles/triples this year at home that would be HRs in virtually any other ballpark at any other level of play. -
QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) I can't believe how ridiculously ignorant Cubs' fans are. I was just listening to the Score, and Cub fan after Cub fan came on and revelled in how awesome it would be to have Nomar, Lee, ARam, MRam in their lineup. They're talking about giving up Cubs' pitching prospects (Pie, Hill, etc) and other various non-experienced players. Wow, pass me some of that pipe. Did they not see or hear what Boston expected out of the Ramirez trade? Huff, Cameron, Looper... all major league veterans. I had to turn the radio off, too many brain cells wasted listening to that. No offense, but I find it ironic that you call the Cub fans ignorant and then metnion their "pitching" prospects and include Pie in there. Not trying to be an ass, just found that ironic.

Anyone think a package of Rowand, Marte and BMac/Anderson/Gio/Sweeney would get it done? And if so, would you do it? We need a big bat, Manny would provide it, but I dunno if I'd do it just cuz of the worries about his attitude. But the thought of Manny batting behind Pods and Iguchi and in front of PK, Everett and Dye does make our lineup a LOT more potent
-
QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) Wow, I can't see how we'd top that package. If they'd take Milledge (an OF?), what about Anderson? I'm all about giving up the prospects for a shot this year, but I can't see how KW could give reason to top that kind of package. It would basically take ALL of our top prospects + a major leaguer to top that if what everyone says is true. Damn... Personally I think we could have topped that package for Manny but not Huff. Thats like us giving up Young/Sweeney/Anderson and BMac to the DRays for Baez or Huff.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) Shoppach is a good young catcher, from what I hear. Showing some good power. Milledge, I haven't heard much about, other than Met fans liking him as one of their best position players in the system. And Petit -- real nice arm. Hell yeah you're right, that's one helluva package. Sanchez is a.... pitcher from Boston (taking a guess?)? Oh, and in a recent ESPN.com chat with Buster Olney, he said something to the effect of: "While Oakland has had a nice streak recently, believe it or not, they did not invent the OBP stat." I just laughed. Milledge is the Mets #1 prospect and hes in the BA top 25 IIRC, Petit is top 50 as well

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Our starting LF has a slugging of .356...I suppose we should bench him Pods' job is to get on base, steal bases and score. Uribe's job is to play solid defense and drive in runs, which he has done adequately. He hasnt been that great this year but its been acceptable for the majority of the season. If Ozuna played starters time he may finish the year with 1 HR and 30 RBI and no way he'd hit .300 the entire year. Ozuna is a good BENCH guy, that is all.

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:15 AM) What I like about Sweeney's .289 is that he is showing improvement over the course of the year. It shows that, despite being pushed into a high level at a young age, he is not only holding his own but making the adjustments to improve his game. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sweeney add a bit of doubles power the rest of the year and over the winter. The question is - do you promote Sweeney to Charlotte next year so he can compete against 24 year old top prospects and former major leaguers or do you have him start in Birmingham and let him put up big numbers before promoting him? Absolutely no way you promote Sweeney to Charlotte until at least July only if he tears up AA. Yes, Sweeney is proving he can hold his own and make adjustments as one of the youngest players in AA but he has ZERO HRs. HRs arent a major stat, but he also isnt driving in runs. Let him repeat AA. I'd say you promote Young before Sweeney at this point.

Untouchables: Sweeney Young Jenks _______ Only in a deal to get us major impact player: Gio BMac Anderson Valido -
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) btw, Pablo hasn't committed an error at shortstop Neither has Willie Harris. Let's start him there some too instead of Uribe. :headshake

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) So many beers... so little time. My personal fav was a real Canadian Labatts 50-50. In the US its Blue Moon. I really liked Labatt Dry but I've never seen it in the U.S.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) And, rumor has it they are signing Pronger tomorrow. And... oh nevermind... just wait and see. Forgot about Cairns...is the Pronger thing true? Still though, having defensemen as enforcers isnt always the first choice.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) I know most of you don't give a rip... But the first official trade of the new CBA is Darcy Hordichuk going to the Nashville Predators for a 4th round draft pick. Mother f***er...Florida has really been pissing me off more and more over the past few years. Who's gonna be their enforcer for all of their young players now (and they have a lot)? Lyle Odelien? GMAFB.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) Has he been playing better? I haven't been following him. not really. His BA is up a little but he isnt driving the ball at all and appears to be "feeling" for the ball at the plate and has way too many timid/protection swings in hitters counts. His run production is way down and at this point it has to be mental b/c I believe he can be just as good as he has been the past 3-4 years
-
with who? Us? Sorry if its an obvious answer i wasnt here at all the past couple days
-
http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...chraaa_rocaaa_1 Charlotte wins 4-0 BMac with a gem, Baj a scoreless inning in relief Brown, Borchard, Bikowski had RBIs Anderson and Daigle 1-4
-
Another good thing about being so far up in the standings is we can call up Borch in September and get him some PT and if he can somehow continue playing like he has the past couple months he might be able to rise his trade value some this offseason

Who is the most underrated player of all time?
ChiSox_Sonix replied to White Sox Josh's topic in The Diamond Club
Frank Robinson and Roberto Clemente You could even mention Hack Wilson and Hank Greenburg. These guys put up some remarkable seasons yet are often overlooked when people talk about the best players of all time -
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) wasn't Valido one of the sox players caught for using steroids? It didnt say other than "banned supplement". Soneone on here said a while ago that it was rumored to be some supplement in something he took but not steroids. Who knows. Anyhow, his numbers havent declined at all since that incident so I wouldnt worry about it too much
