QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) Finally at DoD for the third time and I just appreciate it more and more. The issue I have with the show is the timelines are all f***ed up. They have to make sure you know when they go back that its going on the same time as everything else. They showed her with Lancel in season 1 actually

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) I would rank him second behind Howard. The US doesn't win s*** without Howard. Couldn't disagree more actually. Of all of our players, Howards is one of the most replaceable. That's not a knock on Timmy, it's just that Brad Guzan is just as good and has arguably been the better keeper over the past season and half.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 17, 2014 -> 09:57 AM) Re-Read the last two books, lot's of stuff to still hit. They've spent next to zero time in Dorne and Braavos. And Pyke (hopefully)

Also, WTF was that from Bradley? Might be the worst USMNT performance I've ever seen from him. Jones and Beckerman played their asses off and were MotM for me. Defense looked shaky and we had absolutely no link up play or sustained possession in the midfield or going forward. I think Zusi should play ahead of Bedoya against Portugal. I hate bringing it up, but we do have one player in our pool who knows how to control a game and make passes if MB is off his game. And again, he's not here. The win was great, I was at our AO chapter bar and it was phenomenal, but the way they looked was troubling. However, I don't think they can play much worse. A draw against Portugal puts us in great position to advance, barring a beat down from Germany. Portugal has issues too. Pepe suspension, Coentrao hurt, Almeida hurt, Ronaldo not 100%. And did anyone see Meireles give the official the double bird on the field after he red carded Pepe? You have to wonder if FIFA may suspend him for a match too. With all of their issues, I don't think they are really that much better than Ghana currently. I know it's a negative sounding post, but I'm still optimistic about our chances to advance, more so now than I was yesterday at this time. I just know we can play better, and if the US is going to advance, that needs to happen.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 08:33 PM) Didn't take long for the crappy Donovan reference. Except it's not crappy. This was the concern all along - what happens if Jozy gets hurt? Our only true replacement for Jozy in terms of hold-up play and physical size is Terrance Boyd, who is not here. Our only replacement in terms of goal scoring ability on the international stage for him is Landon, who also isn't here. I love Aron, but he is a completely different player and I'm not sure if he makes that great of a pairing with Clint. Wondo is a poacher who also can't be relied upon as a target man. And then Green, who I'm not even going to discuss. It's a legitimate complaint. JK took no replacement for Jozy. And now it's biting us in the ass unless Jozy has a miracle recovery.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 16, 2014 -> 12:15 AM) GoT covered a ton in that episode. Very disappointed about no LS. Also, although not a big deal in the scheme of things, would have loved the dialog between him and Jaime to have been different and for him and his father to have discussed Tysha. "Wherever whores go" would have been a nice inclusion. Not a big deal though, still thought the episode was really good.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 15, 2014 -> 09:11 PM) If Messi was terrible, I'd love to know what he needs to do to be good in your eyes. He wasn't terrible but he wasn't particularly good until that goal. He was dispossessed over and over and rarely looked a threat. Anyways, this tournament has been awesome to watch, pretty much every single game too. I'm also 14-4 betting on it so that's nice as well

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 04:12 PM) They are brothers. One of them clearly has a false birth date on MiLB. The thought is that the older one is incorrect in his age and is actually much older. Do you know they are brothers? Could they be cousins and their birth dates would be correct?

It is perplexing to me that LeBron does this sometimes. It's not about ability or confidence or anything, but games like last night needed to see him be more selfish. And that to me is what separates him and Jordan in the inevitable comparisons that come up between the two. MJ wouldn't have taken just 14 shots last night.

I'll never understand coaches letting the other team work the clock down to less than 5 seconds hoping for a defensive stop when you're down 2 or 3.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 9, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) They really need to change how they put these groups together. Just make pots of 8 grouped by ranking and draw from each pot to make the groups. Who cares if teams from the same region play each other? I agree. Not fair that some teams have chances at teams like Iran, Australia and South Korea while others do not.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 04:50 PM) Wow they overpaid badly. 61 million guaranteed money for CK not even a top 10 ranked QB. Cam Newton loving this for his new deal. Yep pretty much. Russell Wilson is the biggest winner in that contract. Now he can ask for more -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) Did Kenny get a discount for Hawkins, Honel, Broadway, Borchard, Mitchell, et al? Can't remember. Yes on Broadway. Probably not on any of the others you mentioned. Definitely not on Borchard.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) Alright. whatevs. I dont feel that the university image is disrespectful of my heritage as much as the Redskins are to Native Americans. I dont feel the Fighting Sioux are either, but that isnt my heritage and I certainly couldnt speak for any Sioux I don't think either should/should have changed and I think it's ridiculous the amount of people who pretend to be in uproar about it, but I think there could be a legitimate claim from Irish-Americans that the name 'Fightin' Irish" with an image of a leprechaun in a fighting stance could conjure up some negative images of a "drunken, brawling Irishman" of the early 20th century. -

I pretty much always swing at the first decent pitch. The only time I'm truly selective up there is if we're down in the 7th inning and need base runners. At that point, I'd rather take a walk if it helps us win the game then get another swing in if it's not a great pitch to drive -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) Time to start a petition. As an irishman, i am starting my own so i can take down Notre Dame. There really isn't any difference between the Fighting Sioux and the Fightin' Irish. -
After reading everything, I'm kind of warming up to Nola. He may not have quite the upside of the other 3, but he still has a high end upside and appears to be not only the most likely to reach it, but the most likely to reach it first. Also, if drafting Nola allows us to go overslot with our 2nd and/or 3rd pick then that's worthy of consideration. We aren't overloaded with prospects. If we can get better prospects with our 2/3 picks because we drafted Nola at 1, then with our situation that might be worth it. That being said, and I'm not a big baseball draft guy, but from what I've seen and heard I'd still prefer Rodon. But Nola might be my #2. HS pitchers this early are very risky,

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 09:21 AM) I think Hawkins had wite at the "young for his level and showing marked improvement." Seriously, I've NEVER seen so many people jump off a bandwagon so fast. I can't even see the argument -- underaged prospect struggles in midst of very aggressive promotion, immediately labelled bust. Repeats level, still young for it, shows substantial improvement, still a bust. Seriously. Even if Hawkins is in high A again next year he'll be totally fine. If he can keep up his 26% k rate this year, keep hitting HRs at a good rate, improve his BA and BB the rest of the year then it's a win. Then next year you hope for the big jump that would justify a push into AA. And he'd still be just 21 years old. Hell, if it takes him 4 more years to reach Chicago he'll still be under 25. It's ridiculous how young he is and to have so many people acting like chicken little about him

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) Not referring to the HISTORICAL, fielding-only version of Escobar, but the .781 OPS, 15 doubles in 130+ ab's version. THIS year. Career-wise, he's at only .646, or basically what Gordon Beckham has produced the past 3 seasons, more or less. A slightly better version of Andy Gonzalez, maybe. But, if you honestly believe Saladino can come up this season and put up those numbers, then he should be starting somewhere in the White Sox line-up on a nearly everyday basis. So you're only referring to small sample size of Escobar? That's odd. And if you believe he is truly capable of hitting 2B at that rate (15% of the time he puts the ball in play) then that's even more odd. By all accounts, Saladino has more power, is a better base runner, and has a better eye. Their contact skills appear to be about the same and Escobar is a much, much better defensive player. They really aren't that similar, that's why it's such a strange comp. Even though you love putting words in people's mouths, I never said Saladino could put those numbers up this year. I do think he could be a very valuable super utility player, especially if he can learn the corner OF spots in the future.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 10:18 PM) He was a Top Ten prospect a couple of seasons ago, when the system was REALLY weak, even compared to now. Sure, he can make it to the big leagues, but I wouldn't compare him favorably to, say, Eduardo Escobar. He's more likely to be the last man on the roster, in Garcia's role. Tyler brings better offense, but not the speed/range/arm. Kind of a toss-up. Versatility is a plus for both...especially being able to play OF as well as INF. They are nothing alike. The second bolded part is exactly why they are not alike. Curious as to why they even come up as comparisons to each other. Saladino has a much higher upside, even as a super utility player, than what Escobar brings

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) I can't wait until people start clamoring for Notre Dame to change their nickname. That one will be epic. I don't think it's very strong, but I have seen some opposition to it citing the "fighting" part of the name as degrading to Irish and painting a picture of them as drunken brawlers. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) I just wish people would stop being so damn sensitive to everything though. This times everything. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 11:17 AM) Definitely top 5 with Kershaw, Fernandez, Verlander and Price. I honestly don't think Verlander and Price are really even in the discussion anymore. Give me Wainwright, Tanaka, Hernandez, Teheran or Cueto over them at this point.

QUOTE (TRU @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 04:07 PM) Has anyone ever heard the term Redskins used as a racial slur? Ive never once heard that used to describe an indian by anyone. It's just yet another issue that people with nothing better to do and nothing to worry about on their own have taken up cause for to "right another wrong!"
