Soxfest 2008 Jan 25-27 PALMER HOUSE HILTON
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) Best post in the whole thread. Why waste a once a year chance to instead embarass yourself? If that's his big plan for Soxfest, he should just stay home. Read this once more. I am NOT going to SoxFest this year. I just thought I would bring up that list to see if anyone who was going would actually ask those questions. If I did go I would definitely put some sort of insult in because I am a frustrated fan who likes to bring fire to the table.

ozzie looking at colon
If we cut Uribe in Spring Training, what would we have to pay him?

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) if it's for the vet min, maybe... but a blind man can see that Colon is done. Do you think the Sox might offer Colon an Esteban Loaiza-esque deal with escelators based on performance and appearances?

QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) I've posted in other threads that I think an incentive laden deal would be fine with me. Low risk, high reward. I wouldn't mind having Bartolo on the team again. If he dominates and is on the money, look out. However, you mention an incentive laden deal. I'm curious---if they would give him an incentive laden deal, what would the deal be? Looks like he was paid 14 million bucks last year, so maybe if he proved the Sox he had something left, maybe they could give him 3 million for this year and up his salary with incentives. I'm thinking outloud here, but I don't know what reports say about his injuries, weight or how fast he's pitching, so I can't make a fair price for him.

QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) Anywho who asks some of those questions is wasting an opportunity to ask an actual question and pick the brain of some people with a ton of experience. The majority of those questions are just stupid. Oh yeah? I happen to think our GM is stupid. How about that?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) I can understand not liking some of the moves. But you really aren't going to be taken seriously if you think "nothing else has happened". The team is dramatically different, and there will probably be multiple other moves yet to come before April 1st (like for Uribe, Crede, maybe others). I liked his moves and I have been around for them. I just think that there is more that should be done before Opening day. What will happen to Joe Crede? Juan Uribe? Our rotation? Things are still unresolved. Look, we had a lot of people who want to take shots at Kenny Williams in that thread. I was just seeing who would "have the balls" (for lack of a better phrase) to take shots at him.

QUOTE(max power @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 08:11 PM) He would definitely embarrass pretty much anyone here if they tried to contest their baseball knowledge with him. No, they probably wouldn't cry, but everyone would think them an idiot. I hope one of you dolts asks him some of those questions. Well, part of me hopes you realize you're far outmatched too. Outmatched by who? Some stupid old farts and some people who have to rag on somone for an unpopular opinion? Please. I hope someone rips him a new asshole. It would be so glorious.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) Please. I bet KW could make you cry. Seriously. He reedemed himself a little more with the Swisher deal I'm sure KW could make me "cry." I would love to go at it with him in a war of words. I hope several Sox fans there ask difficult and smart questions to him just to embarass him. Yes, he made the Swisher deal, but nothing else has happened---yet.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) Weeeeeeee salute you! If I was able to go and come home for this event, I would go and be brutal to Kenny Williams. To be honest, I'd rip him a new one and put on a show. by asking a question, getting back in line and humiliating him in the process. I'm not afraid of his "Stanford degree."

Sox pitching prospects traded since 2000
QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) Sorry to be offtopic here, but I just noticed you were from Ann Arbor, are you a student or what? I thought I was the only Sox fan here! Ann Arbor is a whore.

Konerko to the Angels?
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Wait a second, so we cannot play him at first OR in Right Field? I guess you CAN play him, but no matter where he ends up (even as a bullpen catcher), he is absolutely brutal when it comes to defense to his left. He's also slower than a turtle.

Konerko to the Angels?
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 10:51 AM) That would be excellent - great post. A lineup something like this would be pretty nice: Figgins, CF Cabrera, SS Thome, DH Dye, 1B Swisher, LF Fields, 3B Pierzynski, C Quentin, RF Richar, 2B That would be a HORRIBLE idea, putting Dye at first base. Have you seen him play in the outfield? When a ball is hit to his left, he is the slowest person to get it, and I doubt he can even throw a runner out anymore. Ugh, I'd rather put a mule in right field than put JD out there every day. He's a DH at best to me at this point. I just say keep Kong, and trade the "fat" of this team, such as Uribe and Crede. Sign a pitcher and then sign us up for the season. We'd be set.

Thanks to those who run Soxtalk.
This thread is "Mmm, Beastly." Thanks to Gage and everyone throughout the years who has made this forum successful and enjoyable to read. Thanks to everyone for bringing opinions (unpopular or popular) to the table. Keeping the Faith, -Ross P.S. I know several of you "old timers" wanted to read the first sentence I wrote.

Who likes the Swisher trade?
QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) the more i think about this, the more i like it. especially, since we'have had much more danny wrights than chris youngs. What do you mean by this?

Who likes the Swisher trade?
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Josh Fogg is a former White Sox pitching prospect. Therefore logically he must suck. However, since we traded him, he has developed superpowers including a 110 mph fastball and the use of a power-ring. I'm going to ignore that comment. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Josh Fogg might be a reasonable gamble. Threw 165 innings last year. No idea what he's asking for $wise. Had an ERA near 5 last year but that was carried by Coors. ERA of 4.15 away from Coors. I still favor giving the ball to the guys we have and realizing that we still have a line of 7 or 8 potential starters this year, but that's not the worst idea I've ever heard, depending on the $$. I like Fogg. There's just something about him that I liked when he was with us back in the day. If he can take a number 3 role that puts Contreras lower in the rotation, I would be willing to take a flier on him, and I am agreeing with you about the $$ aspect.

Who likes the Swisher trade?
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 04:10 PM) It certainly seems that right now, unless you're a big fan of Kyle Lohse, there's very little on the market in terms of guys who are going to eat innings, given the report we saw in the other thread about Colon not even being able to hit 90 with his fastball. Well, what do you (and everyone else think) about taking a flier on Freddy Garcia or Josh Fogg?
-
Who likes the Swisher trade?
I like the Swisher trade. I really never have much patience for minor leaguers anyway, so I was glad that KW made this trade. I'm not sure if I like what he's doing by signing and trading for guys who are multi-positioned, but pending a few moves after this trade I believe that the Sox have a good chance at doing something special this year. -Trade Uribe -Sign a veteran starting pitcher to eat up innings---Colon. -Keep Crede until he has value and trade him/immediately trade Crede Obviously I also think that a key to this season is winning against division opponents and of course, winning one run ball games, that is always huge.

Kenny to discuss Swisher Trade @ 1 PM
When was it said on the score that he was coming on to discuss the trade? Also, when is Soxfest? I want you guys who are going to rip this guy a new asshole.

White Sox hope to rise from the ashes in 2008
I think that I can live with Owens as our Centerfielder and lead-off hitter. It's better having him than Lofton (starting) or Patterson right now. I think if anything, they should sign a veteran to be on the bench such as Lofton in case Quentin or Owens falter. I would anticipate that the Sox make a run after Garcia, Colon or Fogg for the rotation. It would baffle me if KW decided not to pursue a veteran for the rotation. What non-roster invitees for the bullpen could Merkin be talking about in his article?

White Sox hope to rise from the ashes in 2008
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) Who else is left? Well, there's Patterson and Lofton available. I think Fogg, Garcia, and Colon are still out there, too.

The White Sox and Alexei Ramírez agree to 4 year deal
Is there a reason that there's been no activity as of late? Tell me if I'm wrong, but do the Sox have two shortstops, a gap in the rotation left by Garland, no leadoff hitter, no centerfielder, and no confirmation of this Ramirez deal, while Crede is still here. "What's the dilio?"

New Years Eve Plans
I'm going to my girlfriends house for a New Years Eve "Hollywood themed" party. No alcohol involved, I'm happy to say there are people who don't drink that are my friends. I'm going to enjoy this week before I have to go back to school on January 6th. This break was just what I needed to get away from mediocre college life.

Skiles Fired
I only say bring in Stacey King because he used to play here, and has some coaching experience. Old players who weren't exactly the greatest but knew the fundamentals and the game well could be good coaches, and that's why I brought up King.
