Maybe not, but they were a US band. Their whole time was in LA. If you want to get down to them not being born in the US, or not being "pure US blood", then we have to get rid of a ton of bands. But the band was formed in the US and spent it's entire time in the US until they were signed.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 06:23 AM) I'd also toss in there the Fleetwood Mac, Eagles (Greatest Hits All-Time #1 Selling Album), Aerosmith, Van Halen, Pearl Jam, and Journey. Going back over things...gotta get ya on this one. For all intents and purposes, Fleetwood Mac is a British band. Buckingham and Nicks might be US, but the rest was British, and they started out life as part of the British Blues explosion.

But you can make that claim about a whole bunch of other bands out there where the vocalist/front man carried the band. It was the whole thing that made it click. Yes, Stevie was the stand-out in the band, but there is one of those in every band. Yes, he carried the band, but it was also an amazing band in so many ways. Those guys knew each other inside and out, and knew precisely what to do and when. No, Hendrix would not end it all. Yes he was influential beyond belief. But one could also argue that so was Eddie Van Halen, and he was a superior guitarist and his band sold more albums, in both versions. He was able to replace the irreplaceable and become larger with him gone. Now that I think about it, Van Halen is my answer for the ultimate band from the US, in both sales and influence.

There is another one I have posted here before. Retro-something-or-other. If anybody saved it, post it here, or I will do it tomorrow. What I want to see is somebody do this, but with NEW albums. Some of these things, the ones that were released in the 60's or so, and were meant for your grandparents back THEN, are not all that funny. Those people didn't care what was on the cover, so they just said "just take the picture". I want REALLY bad ones. Some of those are just dated.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) Damn, Steff, I live 10 minutes from the plant... you always forget about me. Oooo, cool!!! Did you see the 'splosions??? Can you see the smoke??? ***I would not have the "cool" thing going on this if they didn't say everybody was O.K., but since they did, this is REALL cool!!! Great picture up there!!!***

Stevie Ray Vaughn And Double Trouble? When he was around, he would have said they were a band. Anytime you have a 3 piece capable of making THAT much noise, and filling out songs that much, it is a BAND and not a single person.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) So how often do you guys actually drink??? I might have a beer every other day or so. Usually two on Friday and Saturday. I rarely drink to get drunk, that is reserved for special occasions. I might end up the evening with a buzz, but even that is a rarity. It isn't about getting drunk, but all about enjoying the taste. Once you lose the ability to enjoy what is going in your mouth, you have to switch or quit the drinking. Jim, if I can still get ahold of some Best I will trade with you.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) Concentrate on chicks first, the beer knowledge can always come later. Yeah, I didn't start the drinking until I had been married for a good while. It's nice when your other half (spouse or girlfriend, I'm not talking Jeckyl and Hyde here) shares the interest with you also! I myself am a fan of a bottle of something good sitting for a good spell. I have a 750 bottle of Westmalle Triple (I agree it is the lesser of the Traps) in my crawl that has been there for 3 years, and was a few years old to begin with. I also have a whole of other Belgian 750's down in there that have been hanging for a few years. I also have a bottle of The Beast that will stay there for about 12 years in hopes that some of that evil alcohol will burn off. If not, I am sending it to NASA to use as fuel for a future launch. Anybody a fan of Shell's? I actually LOVE their Pilsner.

Actually, Youngs Double Chocolate Stout with a splash of...what the hell is that raspberry liquer??? A splash of that in there is CRAZY! I tried it once, and was amazed at how good it was. Granted, that was 3 years ago, and would never do it again.

Never tried Alimony Ale. Another reason to be bummed in my beer drinking exploits. Every year one of my buddies or myself usually do a beer tasting. Last year was my buddy Larry's turn. He finished off his basement, complete with a full bar and a kegerator. A local bar supplied a free keg of Delirium Noel, and had a keg of Great Lakes Burning River tapped, and then he dropped about $600 on fine beers. Needless to say, it was a lovely experience. Coming up this year we will be heading to one of his friends houses who has his own Oktoberfest every year. The one rule is that everybody must bring a beer. BUT he awards prizes for beer brought in different categories. He also supplies german foods and treats for the occasion, all of it home made. This year he is expecting around 100-1000 people.

Actually, it is looking like a Frozen Caribbean Fruit Punch bar.

That actually sounds REALLY good. But I only have a dollar on me, and I don't think that is on the Wendy's $0.99 menu.

My wife loves Jars. Their only problem is that for a bit there they were getting very repetitive. I haven't heard them for a bit, but man, during the "Flood" time, they rewrote variations on that song on every album.

ah...ha....ha....ha.... Where's Juggs and his text book dang it? Shut you silly knuckleheads up.

I'm trying to decide if I am hungry for lunch. If I am hungry...what do I want?

Interesting side note: I went to a beer fest not too long ago. While I was there I stopped by the Goose Island table. I spoke with them for a bit, and mentioned how I love their IPA, Demolition, and Pere Jaques, and the new Icarus. I told them that actually, the only downside was the fact that they were such HUGE Cub fans. Well, the girl behind the booth told me she would confide in me. I said "what?" and she proceeded to tell me how the owners of Goose Island were actually HUGE White Sox fans, but due to their location, they chose to stroke it to the Cubs just for promotions and to help build the customers that wander in after games. Then she called a guy over, and he was one of the owners, and he backed up everything she said. Now granted, they may have just been blowing me smoke, but it was cool enough by me and made me feel a little bit better about drinking their product.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) I feel you and I mostly agree, I love the Faces too. Let me put this in your head: Who influenced the Faces, Zep, Stones etc? Was it not southern, American blues? Basically, the English bands put a white face on it and went electric and harder and sold the s*** out of it. So, who (if anyone) are the Crowes really ripping off? In a way, the Crowes being American and from the south, have more of a 'right' to that kind of music. Well that's what I said up there earlier. I mentioned how it seems that there might be some of the Delta influence coming through now, especially with the acoustic solo stuff being done now. Yes, the UK took from the Delta guys, and thank the lord they did, as without them it wouldn't have been as well exposed as it was. The Lomax gang may have found a bunch of them again, and helped to discover the "new old guys" like Fred McDowell, but it was the UK that really opened the worlds eyes to what we had here. As for Jet, I am curious as to where they go next. The last one hinted at a band mellowing out in a really boring way. Hopefully they go with what I hear their live shows are like, and turn up the energy. Shame of it is though that Jet is getting big doing that stuff, but another band named Supagroup, who is very similar to Jet, but MUCH more raucous and honest, is just kind of sitting there.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) I'd have to say Arrogant Bastard is out of the running simply because it has SATAN on the label. Stone brews gorgeous stuff though. It's not Satan you goof, it's a gargoyle. They use it on all of their stuff.

QUOTE(winodj @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:10 AM) Wheres the choice for Schlitz? You have an "Other" option. Then list it. It just seemed awful timely right now with Juggs going on and on. I was sure there may have been a beer poll before, as this is a message board on the internet and it is not a wholey original topic, but I wasn't sure if it was related to God before, and it probably did NOT have a Trappist product in there, and that is the "trick" in this poll.
