  1. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) I am confused. A 40-hr wk pharmacist makes over $100K/yr yet during the strike managers & technicians will pick up the slack? Are all managers at Walgreens qualified to fill prescriptions? The hardest part of the job is reading the doctor's handwriting. That's worth $100K/yr? And they are striking? Not so sure about that being the hardest part of the job. The hardest part is making sure drugs don't get mixed up, that they know their patients, and that they know the interactions. I trust my pharmacist a bit more than my doctor on the medication aspects. Granted, he is my father-in law, but he has also given me better advice than the doctors ever could when it comes to the drugs I am taking. I have no problems whatsoever with what they make, or could make a year. Quite a bit of schooling and knowledge goes into being a pharmacist.
  2. I'd just like to go on record as to saying that I have a strong love of the UK and it is my no. 1 place to visit eventually. No place, and I mean NO PLACE in this world has given me so many great bands such as that joint. I know there is a seperation between England, Scotland and Ireland, but dammit, I need to set my feet on all of those lands.
  3. I think it makes a BIG difference to the Scots.
  4. Romero still has yet to tell us where the zombies came from. Since Night Of The Living Dead he has kept us in the dark with that one. Plus, this is the 4th film, I think he is hoping people would have done their homework by now. The basic stuff is there, not just for the diehard fans, but for everybody. Yes, you more or less need to have seen atleast one of the others to understand the basics, but there was no major plot point being carried over, aside from the dead have returned and that they are getting smarter. The getting smarter aspect was the entire film Day Of The Dead.
  5. Blah to Floyd man, QUIET RIOT IS TOURING WITH FIREHOUSE!!!
  6. Well, considering that I feel Dawn Of The Dead is the greatest movie ever made, I might be a little bit biased towards Land, but regardless, yes, I loved the movie. My only complaint was that we didn;t get more of the life inside of Fiddlers Green, but word has it there will be a little bit more of this in the DVD release. The problem Romero has is that his vision for his zombie films is so HUGE that he can't achieve it within the constraints of the budgets he is allowed, and he tries to appease the Gorehounds out there along with the people that fell for his movies for their social commentary and character depth. Few films out there can touch his stuff for either the gore (Dawn Of The Dead and Day Of The Dead) or the character depth (Night Of The Living Dead and Dawn Of The Dead being two examples), so now he has to try and pull that off every time. I loved Land for finally getting another Romero zombie flick on the big screen, for getting another Romero film in general (he's one of the nicest guys in the world and one of the most down to earth guys out there, plus straight up honest), and for the ideas executed in the film. I also don't think the movie "sucks" at all, and it is not blind devotion that lead me to love it. It is simply that everything is solid within the film, it was just missing some elements. I loved the characters again, I loved the FX, I loved the ideas, I also loved the look. But hey, if you didn't like it, that's cool! But yeah, I agree with your ranking of War Of The Worlds being that high. What an amazing film that was!!! So, lets go bowling and then watch War, we'll skip Land.
  7. A little off-scale, but a favorite picture of mine. This poster was on my walls when I was about 5 years old! And... The Time magazine cover from the time. You can see how Dwan fits in Kong's hand compared to Ann. A bit smaller, but not by much. So the Jackson Kong will be in the middle of O'Brien and Baker.
  8. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) Yes or no. Is Jackson's Kong big enough to play with a train like it was a toy in his living room? The answer is no. I'll refer to the 2 movies by their female co-stars since this is an ape love for human female franchise. O.K., since we are going to play: Notice Ann standing in front of Kong? Notice Ann in Kong's hand? I'm seeing the Jackson Kong as slightly larger than the one designed by Willis O'Brien. Again, Jackson's Kong stands 24', the original shifted between 18' and 20' depending on the scene and the scale they were going for. And for the record, I am THAT much of a Kong fanatic, and it is no secret that I am that much of a giant monster freak. But now since you say it, maybe I will go downstairs and watch the '76 version, and probably watch the original '33 version tonight, after I watch House Of Flying Daggers. Thanks for the suggestion.
  9. Saw it last night! UNFRIGGIN'BELIEVABLE!!! On first viewing, I say it is easily one of the greatest films I have ever seen! Smack dab at the top of the Sci-Fi greats of all time. Putting this film side by side with the Pal original, man, what a pair of films to carry that title. The tri-pods were sooooo dang cool to finally see. Plus the sound they made is just chilling to the bone by the end of the film. The look of the killing ray and the disintigration of the people is just brutal! I haven't been this excited about a movie in YEARS! I was happy with Lucas and pulling off a decent close with Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith, I was thrilled with George Romero and his 4th part with the wonderful Land Of The Dead, and I didn't have very high expectations for this film, aside from my loving Speilberg. But man, this film just CRUSHED those other two films, and to say that about Land is HIGH praise!!! Isn't the church scene exclusive to the Pal film though? I haven't read the book since I was a kid, but from what I have heard and I remember, this film is a VERY faithful adaptation of the book, period aside.
  10. Just be sure you do that address right!!! LOL!!! It is www.PLAYcornhole.com!!! If you type it in without the "play", you get interesting sites.
  11. Best game in the world to play while drinking with family and friends!!! It's fun at first, but as the time goes by, it gets better and better! I actually throw better after I have had a few. My wife and I are asking my wifes sister and her man to build us our own. Great stuff though.
  12. I guess it's true that it is the conversation that is what is most dangerous, and not the actual act of holding the phone to ones head with one hand. I know that I was constantly running people over when I would talk to the other people in my car, but that doesn't happen anymore now that I make everybody just shut-up!
  13. Sorry, my kids softball team rules. I don't know if my heart ever beats as fast watching the Sox as it does at her games. Granted, I am the coach so I am a bit more involved, but I love softball.
  14. Anybody saying if they think the game will be called?
  15. QUOTE(winodj @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) What, are you out of thumbs? psst...notice the headbanging guy is holding two fingers up...
  16. I actually got a tear rolling for that story! That's just beautiful. Just more added reason to crack a bottle of St. Bernardus. Though it will wait for this Wednesday. But I shall raise a glass for this fine example of a human being.
  17. QUOTE(winodj @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 05:24 AM) I caught an alewife in Lake Michigan once with my barehands. Of course it was dead at the time. And my friends were playing catch with it. So I caught it a few times.
  18. I caught one almost just like that one year with my "Snoopy Rod n Reel kit"! It was a b**** to get on the boat, and the f***er ate the Woodstock off the real. So this is really no big deal. :sleep
  19. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) i didn't know there was such a thing as a godzilla geek. ya learn something new everyday Trust me, there are a ton of us, and I am NOTHING compared to many. If you think Trekkies are out there, you ain't seen nothing!!! LOL!!! I'd take some pix at the convention, but you don't get the real scheme of things unless you are around them. They take their hobby...ummm...kind of serious. Don't mess with them, in other words.
  20. Ahem, boy am I wearing my geek hat today!!! Minya (the true "Son Of Godzilla") blews rings, though not made of smoke. I don't think Godzooky was ever actually called an off-spring of Godzilla. As a kid though, I loved that cartoon. Go figure. Hey, if any of you want to talk about this, I will be here: http://g-fan.com/g-fest_x.htm And welcome all people to join in on the fun. Heck, my wife and kids are actually joining me for this one!!! It only took me 11 years to convince my wife to go with me! LOL!!!
  21. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) As for that second series beginning with 1984, I know they completely screwed up the continuity of all the films with Godzilla Vs. Kking Gidorah by having the time travellers take prehistoric/pre-irradiated Godzilla off the island before the nuclear testing that made him in the original ever happened. So I assume that means NONE of the earlier Godzilla events ever happened. [/i] That time travel man, it always bites ya in the ass. I can't really remember how they covered that one up, and I am pretty sure that it went down to the whole thing of him never having done anything, but the people involved in the time travel woud still remember him. But when he came back as Godzilla in that film, he was much larger than before, due to the more powerful radiation. Toho was sloppy, but they TRIED to tie things together...kind of. You get a little continuity, such as Godzilla being sealed in ice in Godzilla Raids Again and being first seen breaking out of an iceberg in King Kong vs. Godzilla, but that was pretty much how they did the continuity in the Showa films. Then they got all wacky when he ended up on a tropical island (though that script was originally written for another Kong film, and that is how the tropical island was brought to use), and budget restraints helped kill things also. The Heisi series actually follows continuity pretty well, especially Godzilla Vs. MechaGodzilla thru Godzilla Vs. Destroyah. Oh, and originally the idea was that the Godzilla that appears in Godzilla 2000 was meant to be Godzilla Junior from Godzilla Vs. Destroyah, but that idea was scrapped. So there was that story line continuation. But they decided to go the whole "brand new story" approach.
  22. They still make Ultra-Man films and shows ya know. The last ones I have seen were pretty cool, and the most recent are supposedly quite good. The new Gamera films are NOTHING like the old ones. The FX are all great, the stories are really powerful, and Gamera himself is one badass critter now. Though they have started filming Gamera: Little Braves which supposedly returns him to his "friend of children" role. But with the success of the 90's films, I would still expect a really well done film.
  23. There are soooo many continuity things, do you really want the run down? Yes? O.K.: The first Godzilla died in the orginal film. The one that carried on through out the 60's into the 70's (known as the "Showa Series" and named so for the Emperor of the time) was the same critter that came about in the second film Godzilla Raids Again, originally known as Gigantis The Fire Monster. In 1984 he was revived again, this time ignoring the Showa Series and starting afresh. These films are the Heisi Series, and went from Gojira '84 through Godzilla Vs. Destroyah. Then there was the 1998 Tri-Star travesty. Lowsy Godzilla movie, but a watchable giant monster on the loose flick...I guess. Toho got pissed at the studio for messing up their critter, so they came back with the Millenium Series, starting with Godzilla 2000, again, a fresh start. With the Millenium Series, they decided that each film was a fresh start, so none of the movies are connected, with the exception of Godzilla x MechaGodzilla and Godzilla, Mothra, MechaGodzilla: Tokyo SOS. The films are so disconnected in the series in fact that two of the films, Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monster All Out Attack and the last movie for awhile Godzilla: Final Wars more or less completely ignore a ton of stuff set-up in the history and universe of Godzilla. In GMK in fact the entire history is turned upside down and Godzilla's symbolism is even changed drastically, and King Ghidorah becomes one of the "saviors" as opposed to his normal role of destruction. No idea why Gamera flies as he does. But if you have not yet, be sure to check out the three Gamera films made in the 90's. They are amazing films with some of the greatest FX work you will ever see. The stories are great, and extremely effective. The third film even played New York a few years ago, and it was so powerful due to the extreme destruction and realism that the people in attendance actually left the theater in tears since it was too close to 9-11. Those films have a connection to GMK as they were done by the same crews. But seriously, I highly recommend them. They are: Gamera: Gaurdian Of the Universe, Gamera: The Advent Of Legion, Gamera: Revenge Of Iris. Of if you have an interest and can't find them, drop me a PM and I will gladly burn you copies. See, glad ya got me started???
  24. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:55 AM) I have, you are correct about T Rex. In the orginal King Kong defeated rex by grabbing both sides of his jaws and prying them apart. I am excited about this movie, and dont mind saying so. The problem nowadays is that people put too much stock in reality when science fiction/fantasy movies come out. Its a friggin movie about a humungous gorilla who falls in love with a animal 1/100th of its size and defends her. How can the movie be awful because T Rex is in it? Well, not quite 1/100th of the size. The original was 18-20 ft., and Jacksons will be 24' tall.
