  1. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 11:34 PM) Not a hair band? No. The only one that comes close if Adler. If longhair makes you a hair band, then you had better put Led Zep in the category. Many, many, many people still look like Izzy. Hairband is actually more than a look, it's the sound. Hairbands are the bands that most people in the US mistake for being Glam, which pisses me off. I hate the majority of the Hairband/Cock Rock crap, but I live for Glam. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) s*** man, I don't think that anyone remembers the last three. I was heavily involved in the terrible late 80s rock scene, as was everyone else around me, and I didn't know anybody who owned their albums. I'd actually go with groups like Whitesnake, Motley Crue, etc. That terrible dated crap that people could remember because of the videos and such... No, no, trust me, people remember. You want to make money? Sell your original Pretty Boy Floyd "Leather Boys With Electric Toys" on eBay. You want to make SERIOUS money, get ahold of an original copy of either of the Heart Throb Mob Cd's, Alleycat Scratch, Swingin' Thing, or Spiral Fetish discs for eBay.
  2. Though I am not and never was a fan, GnR really doesn't rate a "Hair Band". They have always been more just straight up RnR. Axl only ratted his hair out in the very early days, but quickly stopped doing it. Nobody else in the band ever did. Van Halen is a stretch also. Tesla definitley is not of the "Hair Band" world. Def Leppard became a part of it, but started as part of the NWOBHM movement. Sorry...but some of us are still surrounded by the stuff all the time.
  3. Listening to Luka Bloom's Riverside right now. Another album I had forgotten how brilliant it is. Perfect balance of Celtic and just killer acoustic work. He's also got a great voice that hits perfect emotion on pretty much every track. Grabbing myself some Bothy Band now also. I'm feeling another Celtic kick coming on. Gotta go grab me acoustic and tear it up! Also just found a cool band called Hillbilly Moon Explosion! Great stuff! Hey, any of you kids ever read my blog? I'm especially keen on todays entry which takes a bit to push some Professor Longhair on the masses. I need the exposure for this stuff, so if you have a minute, give it a read! Thanks...
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) Do you ever go to Smart Bar on Sunday nights? What kind of stuff is Scott Lucas spinnin' lately? Scott Lucas after DJ'ing for 5 hours on Sunday: "And here's another ditty by our feature band on Sunday nights, Local H"
  5. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 09:00 AM) The chance to showcase your talent twice per week on the most watched show in America; a guaranteed contract, album and all-out promotion; instant riches. Yeah, most up-and-coming singers would want nothing to do with that. The fact that once you "make it" you become a pawn of AI and are forced to do it all their way. The fact that many of the people who even participate on the show end up hiring legal teams to break the contracts that AI forces them into. Bo Bice's album was nothing like what he was about. Start to finish ballads. Kelly Clarkson seems to have freed herself of AI finally, and the album title shows that. Trust me, being a musician myself, I know I would never in a million years step towards AI, even with success promised. Success in sales is not key to happiness. I would much rather spend my life doing it like I am, doing MY material, MY style, than sign on a dotted line and have to perform any of the crap written for me by friggin' Diane Warren. This is just me though. That is who I was speaking about when I said "Heck, I would hope my integrity would keep me away from the show."
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 07:29 AM) I've been listening to a bit of Wolfmother lately. Not a bad band by any stretch of means. Cali got me interested in the Alkaline Trio quite a while back as well, and I've been listening to quite a lot of their stuff as well. Wolfmother are friggin' great! What a killer band! I've never heard Alkaline Trio. I think Critic may have sent them to me, but I always thought that they were Emo/Modern Pop Punk. No?
  7. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) I'm chalking up the Bo Bice "incident" as internet rumor. I haven't seen or heard this story substantiated anywhere. No major new source that I know has covered it and the only thing you see is "our witness" or "one worker". For now, I am just not buying it. I thought Kat was much better last night than the judges gave her credit for. I also thought Taylor was solid last night, but maybe I am just biased. I watched him back a 2nd time and didn't think he was bad at all, as the judges claimed. My predicted order of finish: 1. Kat 2. Taylor 3. Chris 4. Paris 5. Elliott Losing Pickler tonight was the right move. I think the end will be Kat and Chris. I don't like Chris anymore and I am sick to death of the friggin' guy, but I think he will still be standing with the final two. Does anybody else hate the American Idol video's as much as I do? I am soooo sick of "frame skipping". It's also pretty friggin' dated. If I had a great voice and was the right age, doing those stupid ass videos would almost be enough to keep me away from the show. Heck, I would hope my integrity would keep me away from the show.
  8. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) The term "fan" is derived from the term fanatic (click on the word to see its definition). Notice the definition specifically says a cause, not several causes, some of which can be against one another. How, therefore, can one be a "fan" (as defined above) of two teams who, in general, dislike each other and don't want to see the other succeed? Sounds like the exact opposite of a "fan" to me. I'm pretty sure the teams themselves don't dislike each other. Ozzie might have some problems with the Cubs, but only due to being sick of the "rivalry" that we people created. But I bet Dye doesn't carry any baggage against the Cubs. Also, why can't somebody be a "fanatic" of the city, and pull to see the city do well against its rival, like New York, the city? People are always comparing one city to another, so therefore it actually makes more sense to pull for BOTH Chicago teams when they go up against any team. To prove that CHICAGO has the best of everything, including sports.
  9. My God. That might be some of the most heartbreaking stuff I have ever seen. The boy with the brain outside of his skull just tore me apart. I remember it happening, but do you remember the huge cover-up. I guess in Russia it went quite awhile without anybody knowing about it due to the cover-up. There is a website out there where a girl rides her motorcycle into the city. I have heard some say it is all BS, but it is fascinating if it is real. Found it: http://www.kiddofspeed.com/default.htm Now there is a new one but I can't find the Chernobyl pages. http://www.jerrykindall.com/2004/03/11_che...rcycle_ride.asp
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) ?? I don't see that in the article posted. Here:
  11. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) Everybody loves the smell. No better smell in the world...except...
  12. I don't know. You can actually tell that Simon and Ryan like each other and that it is in jest usually. Simon always laughs at Ryans "attacks". I can't understand how anybody could stand to be in the same state with Paula. Easily one of the most annoying people to ever be on TV. Heck, between her and Jackson alone I'm just about done with the show. I can't stand seeing those two on my TV anymore. Dawg.
  13. Ooo, did anybody see Fox New last night? Which judges or whoever are no longer speaking. I told my wife I was betting Simon and the drunk seal. She thinks Ryan and Simon.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2006 -> 06:21 AM) The Cars .... I am excited for no other reason than a group I had actually heard of got mentioned here! But we're talking about "The NEW Cars". Go back to the 80's, old man.
  15. Oh, and Kat has nailed the "sultry" thing. She will win it all. She has the voice, the looks, and her stage presense has gone way up since the beginning.
  16. Maybe he's pissed his debut album was so friggin' boring. ***talking about Bo***
  17. Anybody else notice Katharines wardrobe "oops"? She started walking, you could see the dress lose a button, and then we were treated to a quick glimpse of what was underneath. I said to my wife "well, we know what will be all over the internet tomorrow" to which she replied "her underwear", so I know I was not imagining it. For that alone Kat should go on to the top spot. My daughter, who is 8 remember, asked during Kellie's performance "shouldn't she atleast act like she is interested". My kid rocks.
  18. ARGH!!! I was getting CSN+ the other night, now I am not. Damn I miss the old non-cable days when you knew what f***ing channel your team was on. Now I spend a good 15 minutes just bouncing from channel to channel trying to find a goddamn game. Guess I won't be watching tonight. In someways the greedish nature of the Blackhawks is prefered, since if your team is in town, you know your f***ed before you waste your time looking.
  19. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) Actually he really only wrote lyrics for Theholybible and part of Everything Must Go. I believe the teaming for everything was Richey and the drummer did all the words, and the lead vocalist and bassist wrote all the music. Names are escaping me right now.
  20. QUOTE(bmags @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) holy bible overrated? maybe in some circles...great great album. The people that like St. Preachers consider it a classic. I just don't find it that stunning. I prefer the stuff before it. Good, I will go with. But nothing touches "Star Lover".
  21. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Apr 25, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) I actually found the only thing interesting about the band pre Theholybible was Richey's craziness. 4REAL! I loved Everything Must Go and This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours. To be honest, everything since has kinda sucked. The last one was beyond boring. I'm glad they got the success that they did though. Plus there is also a bit of the respect for them NOT trying to continue on in the Richey style, even though Richey mainly did the lyrics for them. But I think his wreckless side was the heart behind the music in the beginning, even though he wasn't writing it.
  22. Your company with Dell = Wonderful, helpful company. You on your own with Dell = The worst company in the computing business. Dell doesn't care about Joe Public. I bought Dell at first because I loved the one I had at work. When mine went down, I didn't hold anything against the company. I understood that sometimes you get a lemon. I was looking for satisfaction and some sort of peace of mind. Instead I got people who could hardly speak English, and the people were rude and of no help at all. They kept sending me refurbished hard drives. I would tell them I don't want a refurbished hard drive, after the second drive, it was obvious it was a greater problem. But nope, Habib told me I could only get a refurbished hard drive, the third time, and that a tech would be out to install it in two weeks. I told him to send me the drive, I would install it myself. He said they wouldn't be responsible for it if I did that. I told them they were of no help to me to begin with, so fine, send me the damn drive and get out of my life. I got the drive. It lasted for about 6 months. I bought a new one from Best Buy, and it is still going. The computer still has problems though, but I just deal with them and be sure to back-up every couple months. Dell sucks.
  23. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) I hate the name though. Why not just the SUVs? Or Luxury Sedans? The New Cars? Awful. In other news, I have determined my favorite moment in British 90s hard rock. 4st7lb by Manic Street Preachers. Its just so raw and painful and beautiful. It's how I felt in love with the band and definitely their finest moment of turning away from the Arena/CockRock hybrid that they had flirted with in their first two albums. There were definite hints of greatness before Theholybible came out - mostly "La Tristessa Durera (Scream to a Sigh)" and their cover of Suicide Is Painless. But 4st7lb is pure genius. 4REAL. They've bored the piss out of me since Richey "left". Their best was the "Stay Beautiful" EP. I love quite a bit of the guitar work on Generation Terrorists. I also enjoy the overall writing of Gold Against The Soul. Holy Bible is overrated, IMO.
