White Sox versus that other team in town
Kid Gleason replied to Heads22's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 19, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) I doubt it. I don't think fans switch over that easily no matter who you're a fan of. BTW I was out in Harvard earlier this week for work. Love that Dairy Daze! There's better ice cream in the "downtown" area. I know "fans" don't switch that easy, but I stand by my belief that most of both ballparks are filled with bandwagon type fans. There is your true fans, and then the people going to see the "hot teams" and such. Right now there will be more Sox fans than every before, and most of those new fans were Cub wearing people just a few years ago. The people who don't follow every game, and pay attention to every team. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 19, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) Just walked through the Cumberland blue line stop on my way to grab some lunch. Great to see the Sox fans coming out in large numbers over there. Saw maybe 1 or 2 tools with Cub gear. Of course I am wearing my Konerko jersey to work today. But I would bet that a large number of those Sox fans were wearing Cubbie blue two years ago. -
Probably. But I did see the US version first, and loved it. I just find Mike Scott (hate to say that as I love The Waterboys...) to be much too mean. David Brent is just dim-witted and doesn't really get what he is saying much of the time. Whereas Mike is just a jerk most of the time. If it wasn't for the US versions stellar surrounding cast, I don't think I could watch any of the US version anymore.

I must say though, I was doing my best to keep up with The Office. Then I went ahead and got the DVD's for the British series. Not so sure I can return to the US. Steve Carrel is sooo dang annoying in comparison to Ricky Gervais.

Thanks gang! I have 3 more hours until the day gets real good! Until then, here at work I sit!

My TV serves mostly as a monitor for my DVD player. Well, that was until I went HD!!!

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ May 18, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) Yeah, but Katharine is still fun to look at. Can't argue that!

QUOTE(farmteam @ May 18, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) Rope Large Females? Rock Like Fuck. If you've heard either The Dragons or Mike Monroe, you know it. Obscure references.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 18, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) wow, NO ONE dances? How'd you guys get laid?? Simple: I had long hair, wore eyeliner, dressed cool and learned how to R.L.F.!
-
My wife is addicted to that video. I've never done any of them. I don't dance. Well, I used to, but it involved throwing myself off stages and punching the air and/or slamming into other people.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 18, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) Now that Elliott is gone, I'm going to do the unthinkable and cheer for Taylor. IMO Katharine is has let all of this get to her head and hasn't taken any criticism well the past few weeks. Plus I will admit Taylor was awesome this past week. Dancing in the Dark was badass. Also, thought it was awesome the reception they gave Elliott back in Virginia. Of all of the return trips, I thought Elliott enjoyed his the most and he was just geniunely happy to be on the show to begin with. Probably my favorite contestant ever on the show. Elliot seems like the nicest guy out of all the AI contestants since the show started. He just seems like a genuinely cool guy. No stage presence at all, but still a cool guy. I agree about Katharine. Her reply to Ryan about who that guy was who went up to her at her homecoming was really arrogant sounding.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) Can't go wrong with Sabbath, timeless. I'm in the weird group who thinks the best Sabbath was the Dio era. Mob Rules is both a great album, and a great song. Ozzy era was boring for the most part. I know if I was paying attention during those early years of Sab I would have a different feeling. But for me, both parts put out their best at the same time, just not together. Sab with Dio, Ozzy with Randy.

There does seem to be a judges attempt to sabotage Kat. Her's and Elliot's voices are both just as technnically sound, but Kat has a stage presence that is really captivating. Elliot has none. I never hear Kat being flat or "pitchy" (a favorite word it seems). It was funny, once Clive said that he wanted Elliot to do Journey, I did a Randy impression of what he would respond with. I was pretty much dead on, even with all the Randy-isms. I think Taylor will win. He's the one out of them all that is seasoned performer. The guy obviously has done his time on a stage and it shows. Hopefully if he does win it AI will let him bring his band with him.

If you get mono twice, does it become stereo?

Actually, he looks more like a puffin. I love Opus. I still have all of my Opus stuffed animals on display, all of my Bloom County books, my Billy And The Boingers tour t-shirt (unfortunatley I almost got tickets for the Albuqurque show, but it sold out), and still read them all the time. Bill should have been President. FUNKY WINKERBEANS!!!

There is an important line to draw in the sand: Singers on one side and "vocalists" on the other side. Some of the greatest performers in the history of music could not "sing", but their vocals were the greatest things to ever end up in music. Rock and Roll has more to do with "style" and "attitude" than actual technical prowess. I would rather spend my entire life hearing the likes of Stiv Bator(s), John Lydon, Johnny Thunders, Dave Kusworth, Rod Stewart, Spike, Tyla, Bob Dylan (*gasp*), Mick Jagger, etc. then spend 5 minutes listening to friggin' Pavarotti. But there is importance in both, and in some cases there is importance in lyrics. I love great lyrics. -Hanoi Rocks That's just some cool stuff there.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ May 16, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) I was cleaning my garage a few nights ago and I found my Rollerblades. I remember my wife (then girlfriend) wanted to go rollerblading about ten years ago, so we both went and bought some blades and hit the road. Bought elbow pads and hand guards (or whatever they're called). After, oh, 30 minutes, I realized that I hated rollerblading. I never used them again. I'd give them to Goodwill, but I'd hate to see some bum in a "Frankie Says Relax" t-shirt rolling around town in my blades. In my garage they will stay. A constant reminder that my wife does not really know me and what I like to do for recreation. I used mine all of two times.

QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ May 16, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) Is it true that the new video iPods only play music downloaded from iTunes? I don't think so, but just trying to make sure from anyone who knows. Not true. My buddy just bought a 60GB, and his plays everything from anywhere.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 16, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) I am glad I did my travel before I settled down. My favorite place to travel to outside of the emerald Isle is Australia. When my son gets old enough we are going to go there again as a family. What a great place. My wife really wants to go to Australia. But we are going to Vegas for her, so the next actual REAL trip just the two of us make is going to be to my dream spot, which is all around the UK.
-
My buddy uses Blockbuster, and he prefers them. I won't use them because I find that company to be quite evil and I refuse to support them in any way.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 16, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) great way to live It's worked for me so far. How about you? Life working fine for you also, or is somebody else's method better than how you have chosen to exist? I do what I do because that is how I choose to be. I have a fear of flying, and I don't care about fixing that problem. I'm going to Vegas next week, by flight, and I am a bit of a nervous wreck about it when I think about flying. But my wife wants to go, so I am going. Why am I explaining myself to you? Lastly though, you may have noticed the smiley...I was using that as a bit of an "I'm kind of joking" thing.

I use Netflix. I like it quite a bit, but they do piss me off when they are obviously holding onto my discs to make me pay for renting so many. I get them and return them the next day. So I get the maximum you can get in a month, about 6 movies a week.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 16, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) I'm not really a Pearl Jam fan, but I keep hearing good things about the new disc. Anyone give it a listen yet? My take on it from my blog:

Ah, makes sense now. I guess you have the cool ability to say you have been to some wild places though. I would like to see more stuff in the world, but fear and laziness keep me from it.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 16, 2006 -> 09:21 AM) Remember bottled water only. All Central and South American countries will give you the trots if you drink their water. I went to Sao Paulo for work a few times. We were told not to leave our hotels at night as we were right near the slums. Lots of poverty. The beaches are awsome, nice hot girls in little clothing. It's statements like that where I realize I am thrilled to more or less be a "shut in". Why on earth would you want to go someplace where you are warned to stay inside at night!?!
