Pitching seems to be settling in. Offense is struggling now, but I think we'll have a better idea once Eloy/Yoan return next week and TA hopefully not long after. Now let's maybe get the hell out of this cursed ballpark before someone else gets hurt....

Even on Oakland last year, in a lineup with presumably less protection, he was still a league average hitter. He just seems lost at the plate right now. I thought he was pressing for 2000, but it hasn't improved since he got it. He's been a slow starter in the past so maybe he turns it around, but can't imagine he gets long if Sosa or someone takes off.

In fairness, he didn't look this tragic until recently. And he looked good in the WBC. He only gave up multiple runs in 7/63 appearances last year and presumably some of those were garbage time. This year, he's given up multiple runs 3 times already in 5 outings. He gave up 9 HR last year...but is up to 4HR already this year (juiced ball probably, but still). He was never going to have a really high ceiling, but it's kind of wild how the floor totally fell out. Feel bad for the guy.

League success rate on steals is around 80-85% right now. Yaz was like 2/11 last I checked, which would be in line with that.

Segura is hitting just as poorly as Elvis for three times the price. Popular trade target Kolten Wong has been even worse. It's not like there was some surefire 4 WAR 2B on the market, it's a low ceiling position across the league with like 5 really good players, and none of them were realistically obtainable. Frankly, even if they were, I'd probably rather put resources elsewhere. MI is the deepest part of the system. Elvis has extra value to this team because he can backup Tim comfortably at SS. With someone else in that spot, do we feel pressured to keep Leury for vet SS insurance? I'd rather spend ~$9mil on Elvis + eating Leury's contract than keep Leury and spend that $9mil on Segura who currently has more K's than total bases. Romy and/or Sosa will likely force the issue soon enough, and Hanser and/or Elvis are easy to part with given their low cost. It's really not worth getting your undies in a bunch at this point.

That...very clearly hasn't been the approach this year? Eloy could probably DH tomorrow, but they IL'd him anyway to get Burger up and not be shorthanded for even a few days.
