Most thought drafting Roch would be the highlight of the year, and instead he'll be working towards joining a young core that already got their feet wet in the postseason. Compared to bouncing back from setting the modern loss record, bouncing back from a disappointing ALDS exit should be much more manageable. And the journey to get there was certainly a heck of a lot more fun.

At least that 2022 team was supposed to be competition going in. This year they squeaked past a team that was projected to be last in the AL, and their big flex is mocking them for...having fun in the dugout?

They haven't allowed back to back games with 7+ free passes at any other point this season, and only 4 times total in the second half. Getting hit is one thing, giving up 18 free baserunners in 18 innings is another.

The majority of those 18 runs reached on free passes. There is no 6 run inning without handing them a bunch of free 90s.

Hope that built some confidence at least for facing Williams and Smith on Saturday. Maybe they're more confident on the road where they can set the tone in the top of the inning. Find a way to get 27 outs out of Burke, Newcomb, and maybe Schultz and/or Sandlin. Don't ask Taylor for a long outing. Ideally score enough that you're not even tempted to. Throw strikes to the Guards' noodle bats and make them actually earn their rallies. Stop flailing at high fastballs and make their pitchers earn their outs. I want to see a win on Saturday, and I think they can pull it off. But watching a self-inflicted loss would sting more than anything, so at least make them actually beat you.
