  1. They don't have the arms available for extended extra innings anyway, so I get taking their shot with speed in the 9th. Vargas needed a productive AB to follow it up though. If Mune's spot comes back up, it should mean they scored top 10.
  2. Would love to see Pereira come through here after getting screwed earlier
  3. Needed that contact to the right side earlier when he had chances to advance a runner on 2nd
  4. I don't see how that gets overturned
  5. The annoying part is that they'd probably have a couple more if not for that stupid call earlier
  6. He came out to get an explanation but didn't make a fuss about it
  7. Feels like the kind of thing you might get an umpire huddle to overturn even if they can't go to replay for it. Just an obviously wrong call with major implications.
  8. From what I can tell, Mets fans (obviously) love having a free spending owner who says all the right things about competing but Stearns has been getting some heat from those who expected more/better names this offseason. The team should still be better than they are, even with Soto's injury. Mets fans seem increasingly out on the manager, but Stearns isn't (yet). Clock's gotta be ticking though.
  9. Can't challenge fair/foul on balls that don't pass 1B/3B ump, so nothing Will can do. But it's ridiculous to get that call wrong in the first place.
  10. Was that not obviously fouled off Pereira's foot?
  11. Mune is running the lowest BABIP of any of these guys, which I would expect to normalize eventually when more of his non-HR contact starts falling for hits. But there is something a little funny about a rookie hitting his first grand slam before his first double lol
  12. This clip isn't available to US viewers, but assuming it's the Japanese call of Mune's GS, here is it hosted on Twitter: And here's the A's call for good measure:
  13. Shohei also didn't hit a GS until year 5 IIRC
  14. 114.1mph is the 6th hardest hit HR of the season so far (behind Judge, Shohei, Trout, James Wood, and O'Hoppe) Of that group, Mune's was against the second fastest pitch at 98.2mph (Wood's was against 99.3) None of the harder hit HRs had a higher launch angle (33), Trout's was closest at 31. This was Kurtz last year at 114.6mph EV and 30 launch angle for an estimated 493 feet: And here's Kurtz at 104EV and 31 launch angle. Bangs off the wall, Statcast has it at 433ft. So probably a bit more than 431 for Mune even with the slightly steeper angle?
  15. Love watching Martin pitch when he's on, such a professional on the mound (and in the clubhouse). I'm in no rush to trade him at all, let him be the "vet innings eater" they'd pick up in any given offseason anyway until there are 5 better starters around to force him out. Very good to see an offensive breakout, especially for the guys who had been getting BABIP'd lately. 11 balls in play at 99+ mph, 7 of which went for hits. Mune's 114 was the highest EV of his young season so far, and I'd bet the 431ft estimate is underselling it. Sox are tied in the division with the Royals at 7-13. The Royals are on a 5L, 2-8 in their last 10, and have fewer runs scored on the season. Also at 7-13 are the Mets (who are on a 9L) and Rockies. The Blue Jays (7-12) and Astros (8-13) are nearby. This was the Sox (1-6) first win against an opponent with a winning record coming in. Detroit (0-4) and Colorado (0-5) have yet to beat a winning team, while the Brewers and Cardinals have yet to face one. Sox once again halt a skid at 3. Easily one of the biggest differences between this April and the last 2. At this point last year, they had already had a 6L and 8L. In 2024, it was 2 separate 4L's, a 6L, AND they were in the middle of what would end up being another 7L. Win #7 on 4/17, compared to 5/4/2024 and 4/26/2025 (also against the A's). Date to beat for win #8 is May 1.
  16. At Pipeline, yes. Montgomery/Schultz/Bonemer top 3. BA has Schultz/Bonemer/Montgomery. FG has Bonemer/Schultz/Smith (Montgomery 5th behind Oppor).
  17. 94.4mph, 341 feet Charlotte special, but I'll allow it
  18. What a start. 5 for 7 with 3HR, a triple, 5 RBIs, and 1 BB/K. 3.000+ OPS
