Bush had given up just one hit through 5IP...Then the 6th inning started with a HR and a single. The next "single" probably should have been at least one out, but it took a weird hop and Ramos couldn't corral it. Another HR clears the bases, Barons trail 4-2. Line looks worse than he pitched, 5IP+, 4ER (all in the 6th), 5H, 1BB, 6K.

Montgomery triples and scores when a shallow fly from Ramos finds grass.

Popeye gets the Barons on the board by being a menace on the basepaths. Single on a liner to LF, strolls into second for a steal, dodges the tag to steal third on a much closer play, and then scores on a FC grounder up the 1B line by beating out the throw home.

Quick 1-2-3 for Bush. Weak foul pop, K, grounder to 3B.

Pallette almost got let down by his defense when two consecutive errors let a 1 out single reach 3rd...but then an excellent throw on a would be sac fly cut down the runner at the plate to end the inning. Over in WS, my personal sleeper SP prospect Mason Adams just struck out the side in the 2nd. All swinging.

Angels just turned a triple play to get out of first and third, no outs in the 9th of a tied game. ....and they lost. In a game where Shohei hit a slam to put them up 5-1 early, and their first round pick got his first hit, and they turn a huge TRIPLE PLAY. They leave in the guy who got bailed out in the 9th in for the 10th even as he was stumbling off the mound and at 40+ pitches. He gives up 3. Angels go 1-2-3 in their half.- 8/18 Games
The Barons pitching staff is not having a great day today. They haven't struggled like this in a bit.- 8/18 Games
Another good start for Carela. 6IP, 1ER, 6H, 2BB, 3K. Plenty of weak contact, other than the solo shot that produced a run. Trainers came out for a look when he seemed to roll his ankle fielding a comebacker, but he stayed in. Johan Dominguez also continues to look nice in his Charlotte return. 4IP, 1ER, 4H, 1BB, 3K. His run was also on a solo shot, and it was his first ER surrendered in his 3 starts at AAA (10IP total). 4IP is his longest outing for the season.- 8/18 Games
Elko just crushed another one oppo ? Quero nabbed a runner at the plate trying to advance from 3rd on a WP to help Thompson out of a jam in the previous half inning. Maybe more of mental mistake by the runner, but I just want to point out again that he's noticeably quick to recover balls that sneak away from him.- 8/18 Games
They don't like prospects going over 30-35 pitches in an inning. He walked his last batter to load the bases with 2 outs after passing that mark, so he got the hook.- 8/18 Games
No Harris or Gonzo for Kannapolis tonight. Solid day for org pitching though, with McDougal, Carela, Thompson, and Dominguez going.- 8/17 Games
Cannon gets the W in Birmingham. He looked pretty good and I felt like he was getting more whiffs than usual, but a few long ABs drove the pitch count up. 5IP, 1ER, 5H, 5K, no walks. Post-game, he said he was working with a new version of his slider at 84-86mph. The cutter is 89-92mph. Nice to see him settle in this month after a rough start as a Baron following the promotion. 4ER in 15IP across his 3 August starts so far. Veras is staying hot. He was 2-4 with a HR and a 2B off the wall that just missed going out. Montgomery was 2-4 with 3 RBI. A head cold is what had him out for a bit, apparently. Elko hit his first AA homer today, but you can kind of see that he's still adjusting to the pitching at this level. Had a couple of pretty athletic plays at 1B though, including a nice basket catch on a foul ball and a 3-6-3 DP.- 8/17 Games
Camilletti walks it off for the Ballers with a 3RBI bases clearing double. They had trailed 10-8 headed into the ninth. Shane Murphy and 10th round pick Zach Franklin got roughed up early, so they were down 10-4 after 5 innings. The back end of the pen held things down, and the offense scored 7 unanswered for the 11-10 walkoff. Anderson Comas has yet to give up a run of his own in A ball, although he did fail to strand the runners after coming into a bases loaded 2 outs situation (single, balk, WP). Gonzalez was 2-5 with 2RBI. Harris 1-3 with a walk. Camilletti was a menace and went 3-4 with 2BB and 5RBI in all.- 8/17 Games
Wolkow got the ACL Sox in the board with an RBI single. Vera started the game and went two innings with 1K and a barrel of groundballs. 3rd round pick Keener added 2IP scoreless of his own, 1H, 1BB, 4K. Oppor in now.- 8/17 Games
DJ hits another, his 3rd in 2 games.- 8/17 Games
Veras hits one out oppo just out of reach of the leaping CF. Just kept carrying. Elko hits one out dead center one batter later. His first at AA.- 8/17 Games
Cousin turned in a very solid start: 6IP, 2ER, 8H, 0BB, 5K. His longest outing of the year.- 8/17 Games
Back to back doubles from Chappy and Baldwin, then DJ goes yard for his second in 2 games.- 8/16 Games

It's going to be a while before we can really judge Quero's game calling and such, but...Nastrini's excellent start was followed up with no baserunners allowed by the pen over 3IP. 15K and 1BB for Barons pitching in all against a solid offensive team. There were a couple sliders in the dirt that escaped Quero's reach, but he was quick enough to gather them to hold runners. Caught a pair of foul pops. I know he's supposed to be "bat first," but I'm really not concerned about his ability to defend and stick at C.- 8/16 Games
6IP, 1ER, 6H, 1BB, 10K for Nastrini. Maybe two of those hits were solid contact? The others were just kind of unlucky bloops, including the one that scored. Half of his Ks were in his final two innings. Held his velo pretty well at 94ish by the end, breaking stuff got a lot of whiffs late. Cannon tomorrow, Thompson Friday, Bush Saturday, Eder Sunday.- 8/16 Games
Nick "Nasty" Nastrini annihilates the side in the 5th. Maybe back out for the 6th? He's at 76 pitches or so. - 2023: MLB news not AL Central-related
