Jaime Barria had been listed as the Angels' probable starter vs. Lynn on Wednesday, but they just put him in to pitch in extras vs. the Marlins. Presumably that means he won't start after all, but I'm not sure who takes his place since they used their other swing guy Silseth too. Looks like Detmers would have 5 days, so there's a chance we end up dodging Shohei on the mound and facing back to back LHP at home. Better make something of it. Or just wishful thinking, I guess...

Verlander's struggles continue. He gives up 5 runs in the second to the Rockies at Coors, 45 pitches through 2IP.

Mena looked more like himself today: 6IP, 3H, 2BB, 5K, 3ER. The 3 runs were all on one swing, a HR following TDLOW and a single. Outside of that, he had three 1-2-3 innings and just two other baserunners.

Also seems pitch count related. He threw 67 last time out.

Maybe the dugout just didn't see an angle they liked enough to challenge that play at home, but Pedro seems like he would want the team to be rewarded with a run that they earned even if they probably don't need it to win. Unless...that run would have put the Sox up 9-1, getting the Tigers to the 8-run deficit necessary to put position players on the mound. There are benefits to be had from taxing the pen of a team you play 5 more times over the next 9 days.

He's getting closer, at least.

Tatum was also featured pretty heavily in a recent Washington Post article about stealing bases with the rule changes. He lobbied for a green light and got it, 20 bags so far this year. I like him.

Can't imagine McCullough is long for Kannapolis. Knights on a five game winning streak thanks to some unlikely contributions, Piscotty with a 9th inning go ahead homer and Padilla with the one run save. A fan said or did something after the final strike call that Yolbert Sanchez took extreme issue with, to the point that he headed into the stands to confront them...Weird scene, and presumably some kind of discipline headed his way. The fan was escorted out by police.

Rays gave Diekman the bottom of the 9th in a 6-1 game, against the bottom of the order. He struck out one, but then loaded the bases with two singles and a walk before getting pulled.

Compelled by his quality performance in low leverage situations, the Dbacks gave Jose Ruiz a save opportunity today... Fellow former Sox Kimbrel is now in for the 10th.

2.36 ERA for Sox SP in the last 13 games. How is he still employed?!

Sox vs. Guards series with one team running into outs on the basepaths and making multiple errors while the other strings together some timely hits and solid pitching/defense for the series win. Based on how these went last year, you'd never guess which was which.

Click was let go after they won the WS. They hired Dana Brown from the Braves in January. The leading theory among Astros fans seems to be that both the Click firing and potentially questionable signings of Montero and Abreu in the interim GM-less period are a result of overzealous meddling from ownership.

At 3 years/$34.5 million, Astro fans can't decide if him or Abreu was their worst offseason signing.

That's a wild stat.
