4 years of control left for Outman. He’s not any sort of solution to RF for the Sox. Add in 2 years of control for Lux and it would be very difficult to understand why Getz would make such a trade. It would basically be a sign that Getz is just trying to build a mediocre lineup, not build up toward any sort of contender. These guys match up well with acquisitions like Fletcher and Vargas.

Totally agreed. I’m not buying this fluff. It tells me Getz is trying to stir up his own interest cuz he intends on dealing Robert this offseason regardless of the strength of the offers. It’s the offseason of salary dumping. Getz had an early start with Eloy, Moncada, and Sheets. Crochet and Robert are next. And yes I know Sheets and Crochet weren’t due much money but it all adds up. No doubt, this was the plan all along and these marching orders were given to Getz by Jerry.

I expect a big year from Getz’s #1 offseason target!

I don’t think so just because it’s tough to be that horrible two years in a row, not that I think the overall talent of the roster will be much better this year, if at all.

Not that this is news, but I’m guessing the Yankees aren’t truly in on Crochet…

What Getz just said in Merkin’s tweet above makes me think he is moving him either way.

I didn’t believe it at first. But with Harold always bringing up Lux and the Dodgers manager announcing Betts’ move to SS… Muncy can play both 3B and 2B. Edman can also play 2B. They just signed Michael Conforto who can play LF with Andy Pages in RF. Leaves a perfect opening in CF for Robert and they won’t exactly need Outman.

So who is excited for Robert for Lux and Outman?

I did think Madrigal would be better than he was after his first two seasons with the Sox, but you could see the issues with his game immediately. He was definitely not a very fast baserunner so it made you wonder how he was ever going to consistently beat out all those bunts, groundballs, and choppers for hits, since that was a large part of his offensive game — not striking out and making weak contact.

Ironically, Madrigal finished with a .221 AVG and 0 homeruns for the Cubs last year. But he is a .274 career hitter at least.

Unless the Red Sox are confident they are dealing Abreu in a package for Crochet, what am I missing with the Red Sox adding yet another outfielder in Teoscar with their current group of outfielders and Anthony in the minors?

Yep, I like the idea of younger guys over prospects nearing 23/24 but with a guy this young, performing well at a low level could be a bit fluky rather than having a couple seasons of performance to look at. And then, he would have to further develop in the Sox farm system. Yikes. Would be a ballsy move by Getz to go that young on prospects IMO.
