No one here gets paid to be the Sox GM and choose the right players to trade for. Getz and his team have a lot more access to data, scouting reports, etc. on these players than a fan does. Most people thought Fletcher was capable of playing CF at the time of the trade and that a Robert trade would be the next domino to fall. We also didn’t know at that time that Getz had the choice of either Fletcher or McCarthy. That news came out later. Instead, we found out that Fletcher was basically a corner outfielder with as much power as Madrigal.

I wasn’t upset they traded Mena. But they apparently traded him for the wrong outfielder. Josh Barfield told Getz to take back Fletcher instead of McCarthy and Getz listened.

I’d still like to see what Sosa can do just because of his one last hot month, but I am pretty sure Lord Meidroth will be taking over 2B eventually anyways.

Egg on your face is trading a pitching prospect for an outfielder that has no role a year later. I’d give props to Getz if he somehow managed to nab Canario at this point. What was done earlier in the offseason is done. But he has a chance to improve the team for the future. Something guys like Tauchman and Slater don’t do. If you have to eat a million or two by cutting Slater, who cares?

Who cares? Getz is in charge of player acquisitions, not some minority owner. Maybe he should grow a fucking sack and cut off this twisted family and friends with benefits deal. We aren’t trying to sign Machado again and the minority owner can find another buddy in Chicago to party with instead of dbag Clevinger.

Quintana just turned down the Pirates latest contact offer so they signed Andrew Heaney for $5.25 million instead, so I am guessing Quintana wants more that that kind of money which the Sox aren’t offering.

I’m upset because this means @Balta1701 is likely gone for another year. Remember how there were questions about how Clevinger could have been traded in 2023 but some posters argued that his $4 million dollar buyout was preventing teams from having interest in him, rather than his off-the-field issues? Well, it is now the third year in a row and literally no other team will touch this guy but the Sox. I think we officially know the answer now. This douchebag is now 34 years old. He brings zero upside for a 100 loss team. Even if he actually pitches well rather than getting injured yet again, no other team wants his ass. Clevinger is just another sh1t-stain besmirching this bottom of the barrel organization. He is the load of barnacles that get stuck to a boat, that the boat owner can never scrape off successfully. Getz truly is a grade A jackass. It’s too bad he isn’t obsessed with actual good players, just cheap old vets and jagoffs like this. Getz should be working on acquiring Canario, not this waste of DNA.

Haha, I just read a Cubs board and a poster said it would have made a ton of sense in hindsight for the Cubs to retain Tauchman rather than non-tender him had they known they would eventually have to DFA Canario, since outfield depth is now an issue for them. I’d be all for that move. Fletcher and Colas could still have life as the remaining lefty hitting right fielders and Jerry would even save a little over a million bucks!

So does Canario, along with way more power and being 3 years younger. Perhaps they’d take back a pitcher from us that they like more than a reliever on their 40-man roster, but I’d be surprised if the Cubs don’t trade Canario for minor league prospect(s) that don’t require 40-man spot(s).

The Sox have signed three free agent outfielders to play in front of him. It isn’t happening here. It was a bad trade to begin with but Fletcher has shown nothing anyways. The dude is the outfielder version of Madrigal.
