Crochet open to extension...
There’s still some Getz defenders left on this very site.

Crochet open to extension...
This would likely be the last straw from a fan perspective. Even the last few remaining Getz supporters would tar and feather the guy if he does this.

Are there any future major league position players on that Barons team?

2025 Projected Arb Salaries (MLBTR)
Both were about the same as Vaughn in WAR because of how bad Vaughn’s defense is. Neither team is going to “upgrade” to Vaughn from those guys. Definitely not the Yankees. It would be a lateral move. Vaughn has next to zero value. He’s a 1B that hits like a 2B and plays defense like a DH.

Crochet open to extension...
Option C. Getz will acquire a player he thinks is great and an immediate starter but the shine on the player will be long worn already. Think 5.6 WAR Fedde and 1.3 WAR Kopech for -0.8 WAR Vargas.

Sox tied for 17th in postseason wins since 2020…average at something
Yeah, the giant trade deadline thread from the 2023 season, not this season. Cease wasn’t a trade option this year which is why they traded for Eflin and Eflin pitched almost as well as Cease in the second half once Baltimore acquired him. Also, I know ERA isn’t the only metric but Burnes’ ERA was half a run less than Cease’s this season. Cease also had the home park factor in his favor. Meanwhile, Cease finished the regular season with 14 wins while Burnes finished with 15. I realize people want to try to convince themselves that they were right about the Orioles’ situation all along but they lost because their offense failed, not because of their pitching. And no one said they needed to trade for hitting over starting pitching at the trade deadline.

Wildcard Round
Maybe the Orioles will take Vargas and Fletcher for Mayo? It can always be worse…

Wildcard Round
At least we know those Orioles fan posters won’t be back here anytime soon. 🤣

Illinois High School Football Thread
I think they are better than their record but it is what it is. They were stacked with offensive players (WR and RB) but their OL isn’t deep enough to make up for their injuries to it. And those offensive players can’t do much without any solid blocking from the OL. I don’t expect them to beat Carmel Friday night.

Aren’t the Sox historically bad at this from year to year since its inception?
-
Wildcard Round
I was just referring to this season and the notion that they should have acquired more pitching. I disagree and it wasn’t the reason they got knocked out of the playoffs.

Wildcard Round
Baltimore was 5th in the MLB in starter ERA. https://www.mlb.com/stats/team/pitching?split=sp&sortState=asc And they acquired Eflin who was great and pitched much better than Crochet in the second half and Rogers who sucked.

Hasn’t this been going on for the Sox since the advent of the challenge?

Fire Chris Getz
Is there any doubt he will outhit Vargas? I have zero doubts. The Dodgers dumped Vargas and Luke Keaschall was developed in the Twins farm system.
-
How can they even catch Minn in 3-5 years?
They can’t and won’t. Getz had a chance to improve the Sox and hurt the Twins long-term with a Fedde/Keaschall swap but Getz chose stinky Vargas instead.

2025 Projected Arb Salaries (MLBTR)
Of qualifying first basemen with at least 3.1 plate appearances per game, only Ty France put up a lower OPS than Vaughn. https://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/player/_/season/2024/seasontype/2/position/1b/table/batting/sort/OPS/dir/desc Vaughn is also ranked 37th among all first basemen (including non-qualifying) in WAR with 0.2. https://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/player/_/season/2024/seasontype/2/position/1b/table/batting/sort/WARBR/dir/desc Quite frankly, Vaughn is one of the worst starting first basemen in the MLB and shouldn’t even be starting at 1B for any team based on his performance.

Wildcard Round
But almost everyone here who ripped Elias for his prospect-hugging said that he should have traded them for pitching — an ace quality starter like Crochet for example. Meanwhile, the Orioles lost the series because of their hitting, not their pitching. They gave up 3 runs in two games. I don’t recall anyone saying the Orioles needed to acquire bats, even though they did trade for Eloy [hardy-har-har]. So Elias was actually right to not trade a prospect like Mayo for Crochet.

Sox tied for 17th in postseason wins since 2020…average at something
Well, anyone who said they needed Crochet to advance was wrong. Their hitting failed, not the pitching. They definitely went to the wrong team looking for a hitter. Eloy… 🤣

Andrew Vaughn
Perhaps, but I wouldn’t put my money on it. And even with an .800 OPS he still wouldn’t be very valuable because his defense sucks.
