  1. No. When @poppysox is talked about during the Sox game, he wants his PBP guy to be talked about as well.
  2. Kiss the ring, John. Also, more proof that JR wasn’t a fan of Benetti’s extra non-Sox work. Why would you not want one of your sportscasters getting national recognition and hype, even if he has to miss a few Sox games? JR apparently doesn’t have a problem with Steve Stone taking tons of vacations and never traveling to the west coast, but with Benetti it was the end of the world.
  3. I’m not buying that a 6’5” 230 pound 22 year old is going to stick in RF, if he fills out anymore as he gets older. Maybe you could hide him in LF. Regardless, I wouldn’t turn him down as the return but I’d be doing everything I could to keep him at 3B before considering 1B.
  4. Moving a corner infielder to RF… where have we seen that one before? Oh yeah, twice with Vaughn and Sheets. No thanks, Rick.
  5. Hah, I read this and immediately knew the author had to be a Bears fan. Glynn Morgan works for NBC Sports Chicago. Guy is trying to play Madden in franchise mode to make the Bears a super power. He must be overriding every trade to force the Patriots to accept. However, if there was a way to make this trade work out by giving up more or getting back less in the way of picks, as long as the basis of the deal is the Bears getting MHJ with the #3 pick and the Patriots getting Fields and the #9 pick, I would be all over it.
  6. You probably lose some of your fandom when you get to finally work for your favorite team but realize that your boss and the owner are assholes.
  7. It’s not happening. And that’s the bottom line, cuz Stone Cold @tray said so!
  8. Zach Zaidman on PBP with Gordon Beckham on color. An announcing combo to punish the most evil residents of Hell.
  9. He better eat his first Colossal Sundae Helmet with a knife and fork.
  10. I don’t even know who this guy is but he has to be better than Connor McKnight or Zach Zaidman. A small victory in an otherwise awful offseason.
  11. Yes. I mentioned this already in another thread. Typically, just the announcement of an agreement to build a new sports stadium will increase the value of a franchise. Months after the approval of a new Tennessee Titans stadium to be completed in 2027, the franchise’s value rose by 26% to $4.4 billion dollars. So JR could just be trying to raise the value of the Sox prior to a sale, and it’s possible that neither he nor his kids end up footing the entire bill for the eventual new ballpark, as the new owner(s) could be on the hook for it instead.
  12. The same owner tossed aside any decision-making by his GM and went back to the well to bring back his favorite manager and buddy after 34 years, 76 year old Tony LaRussa. We all know how that went. In his press conference announcing the promotion of Getz to GM, JR also praised Branch Rickey as his favorite baseball executive and said that David Eckstein was his favorite player. “He couldn’t run, he couldn’t hit, he couldn’t throw, he couldn’t field. There was only one thing that he ever did, and that was beat you.” Basically, this was JR’s reasoning [excuse] for his new GM to sign all the cheap and scrappy [crappy] players we have seen this offseason. JR is most definitely living in the past and thinks it’s his way or the highway. The problem is, the game has changed and his way doesn’t work anymore.
  13. I think you are reaching. Like many companies, the Sox just hire a lot of terrible people that keep their jobs for far too long. Remember this image that was posted to the official White Sox Twitter? Not to mention the Senior Vice President, Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer whom apparently didn’t like how Jason Benetti ate ballpark food on air, which was leaked by the media. When you see this trend of frequent occurrences of incompetence and stupidity, is it even a surprise anymore? @Balta1701 also mentioned another good [embarrassingly bad] example above as well. However, the theory that there is a super evil genius and master troll working in the Sox marketing / PR staff that is clowning every stupid decision the Sox make is pretty awesome to think about.
  14. Poles wasn’t going to hire Harbaugh to tell him what to do.
  15. So basically, you just want to convert the 30+ year old GR Field into Old Comiskey? Would this really make sense to you over building an entirely new and modern ballpark or are you just in it for your own touch of nostalgia?
  16. Thanks for the direction to the other thread. Looks like they have since deleted the tweet, unless I’m mistaken. So I read about it here: Apparently, they also posted a “highlight” video of Gonzalez grounding out.
  17. Why anyone would want to invest more money in a bad ballpark in a mediocre location is beyond me. If the team is going to suck for years, at least the promise of a new ballpark in a better location is some sort of excitement.
  18. The Cubs poop money and none of these potential contracts are going to impact them very much in the grand scheme of things. They aren’t like our Sox in which one bad signing like Benintendi screws their payroll over completely. Also, would you rather have your favorite team be in position to sign a guy like Bellinger, or would you rather see your team’s big offseason acquisition be Fedde?
  19. I wouldn’t sign Chapman to the contract he is expecting to receive as a Boras client, but I don’t think he’s done. He’s probably going to be productive for a couple more seasons, but he’s going to receive too many guaranteed years. But this is the running theme of most MLB contracts these days, especially when Boras is the player’s agent — the player is productive for about half the contract. Why do you think Bellinger is unsigned as well? Boras is asking for the moon. Is Bellinger done too?
