He just mentioned Vargas’s smile, and that we have seen it a lot more since his swing change. Schriff-dawg is obsessed. -

We know that the Tigers offense is nasty and that Shuster is bad, but at least this further shows Smith is legit. -

Would be even more awesome if his first name was “Dirk”. -

Redacted. Is it game time yet? -
Getz has done very well in the Rule 5. Drohan didn’t work out but Shane Smith alone could be the best pick in years, and he also acquired Vasil. Workman didn’t work out either but two out of four is really good. But I do agree with you, no GM can bank on Rule 5 picks panning out each year.
-
I’m really not arguing anything. I have no idea why you aren’t understanding what I am saying, but I’ll try again here… Getz has pretty much been pigeonholed in his past two offseasons. Can he even sign higher priced free agents that he may actually want? No. Therefore, there is really only one offseason plan that Getz can employ due to Reinsdorf not wanting to spend any money, and it’s simply signing cheapish veterans under $5 million dollars each and hoping that they have a good season. If that’s some sort of strategy for going after the latest market inefficiency, the Sox have already been doing it for years. If you can’t understand my post, you are simply trying to be deliberately obtuse.
-
But these are literally the only type of logical signings that a team that is spending a minimal amount of money each offseason, like the Sox, can make. Once again, the Sox have been doing this for years. I don’t see it as a planned out strategy. It’s basically, sign a bunch of older vets and pray that they have a good year. It may work and it may not due to injuries, poor performance, age, or a combination of these reasons (see Josh Rojas, Michael A. Taylor, Martin Perez, Mike Clevinger). It’s basically the $5 million and under bargain bin at the MLB free agent waste management site, a.k.a. dumpster. It definitely isn’t a sustainable strategy if you want your team to be any sort of contender.

Looks like some of the pitching prospects that Getz acquired in his trades.

2025 MLB season...catch-all for non-Sox, non AL-Central
WhiteSox2023 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
Baseball cards were fun back in the day, until everyone realized that the baseball card companies were overprinting every conceivably rare and valuable card like crazy and the value of the majority of cards dropped to nothing. Bastards… -
Don’t forget to factor in Palacios’s -0.8 bWAR when discussing Tauchman and Slater’s bWAR. Palacios had to play more games and get more at bats than Tauchman and Slater combined thus far in the season due to their injuries. I think the consensus OF choice by most posters in the offseason was Austin Hays. That one is looking really good so far.

Is “The 78” Dead? Or even more alive? Fire announce plans for SSS

Send more letters in to Jerry, ASAP. I’d like to see what you can do over Getz. -
Savage. 🤣

I said I didn’t agree with you so you don’t have to get so defensive. Also factual information — Palacios has more at bats than Tauchman and Slater combined. Older vets are cheap for a reason — because they can’t stay healthy. That’s the risk and downfall of your so-called “new market inefficiency.” Don’t try to make up a false narrative that this is some sort of new strategy by our wizard GM Getz. The Sox have been playing the veteran dumpster diving offseason game for years and years. You know this, as we all do. Who you crappin’?!?

MASSIVE improvement! Watch out all other MLB teams!!!

Even if it is the unlikely chosen spot, it would definitely have to be built up over the years for people to want to hang around there, just like with United Center and The 1901 Project that another poster mentioned in another thread. -

I’m not arguing your points here and I don’t know how easy or difficult it would be for the Sox to cohabit the same 78 location. But wasn’t one of your original arguments that a stadium would be extremely difficult to build on The 78 site due to foundational issues (the river bed, silt, etc.)? Why does Mansueto plan on building a new stadium at the site? Is Mansueto not aware of these issues that you called out months ago? Is this story just fake news? -
No, I don’t believe that two old vets that don’t have a combined total of 90 at bats in the first week of June are the new market inefficiency. Baseball is a young man’s game and because these two guys are older, they couldn’t stay healthy. As a result, we had to watch a myriad of AAA fodder and/or backups starting on a daily basis in the outfield and at DH (e.g., Jankowski, Maton, Taylor, Palacios, etc.) for much of these first 61 games of the season. I’m sure both Jerry and Getz would agree with you, but this is not a new strategy. The Sox have been signing old vets for years and it usually ends up in several millions of dollars wasted with nothing to show for it but middling prospects at best. I’m sure the approach next offseason will be more of the same.

Yeah, I was questioning that Google result. The Sox are probably worth almost $2.3 billion alone and Jerry still owns a ton of other properties, parking lots, land, etc., along with many other investments and savings. -
6/3 GT Brieske vs Smith Tigers/Sox 6:40
WhiteSox2023 replied to caulfield12's topic in 2025 Season in Review
Considering the Sox just traded Crochet for a package of prospects including Meidroth and Meidroth is actually a few months older than PCA, yes, the Sox would keep PCA. PCA is a star in the making and isn’t a free agent until 2031. -

I didn’t realize how loaded the Fire owner is. Mansueto is worth $6.6 billion according to Google. Jerry is at $2.3 billion. I just watched a CHSN interview with Mansueto and it sounds like he is going to build up the area and make it a place to be. He mentioned having a beer at the park and a few more after the game. 🤣 He outclasses Jerry as an owner in every aspect, but maybe he would like Jerry to pitch in some money and make it an even bigger attraction.
