I don’t like what some of his numbers say…I would deal him too but it depends on what else you have.
-
It doesn’t matter..if the market goes to the point where a top 20ish prospect has to be in the deal, the Os won’t be in the market unless they want to deal Cowser and you consider him a top 20 guy (I don’t but currently MLB does).
-
Third base is a premium position.
-
1) I don’t really buy any of the Valdez stuff and I’m actually not excited about him but I have varying degrees of interest in Luzardo, Bieber, Burnes and other young unproven starters. 2) I agree..as I said, if the top 5 guys are off the table, the other teams can hang with the Os.
-
They aren’t being Moved for Cease. I think they could be available in some deal but I doubt Cease is that guy. He’s not good enough, cheap enough or under control enough to get either of those guys.
-
You do understand that more pitchers than Cease are available right? Elias likely knows what he wants to pay. He knows what the most he will pay is. But he also knows what else he is going to pay elsewhere and what he is hearing from other teams. I said it before..if he comes away from this offseason without a legit starter, Elias has failed. A lot of Os fans disagree with that but I think they aren’t being realistic. But Cease doesn’t have to be that pitcher. You guys seem to think he has to be that guy, that he is the only option. That is just not true.
-
No I didn’t say that and that’s still different from saying Elias knows what Cease will cost.
-
I have already explained this. I know the words that are actually said fly over your head and you choose to put down whatever mush you choose but the question has been answered.
-
I have never once did that Elias has an idea of what Cease should cost. Literally never once have I said that but you haven’t been honest about anything else I have said, so why would you start now?

I didn’t say it was at the best and final stage. Good god, is there something in the drinking water in Chicago where people don’t read what is being said and just jump to conclusions? All I’m saying is that we don’t know the level of where teams are willing to go for Cease and that if only 2 teams are willing to really go hard after him, it doesn’t matter that the other 5 teams exist in this. In any negotiation, you always get down to the last few before a deal gets done. There is always someone(s) that are willing to go more than anyone else. Im simply saying that more teams doesn’t mean that everyone is willing to go to that point. And I’m also not saying that they aren’t. In simply saying we don’t know.
-
I have bought 3 and sold about 45.
-
No you dont..at least not when you are on the final stages. You do it early on for sure..you tell them look, you aren’t close to being in this so you have to s%*# or get off the pot. But if you are at decision time And 75% of your bidders aren’t even close, you are now engaging with the other 25% to get a deal done. You aren’t wasting time going back to everyone because you fear in the meantime something else comes along for the 25% and they move on.
-
When you aren’t even in the vicinity of other offers, you really aren’t a serious buyer.
-
I’m in RE too..and you are correct. My point is that you are at your best and final type stage…in that scenario, you aren’t considering the other 8. You are considering 2. And the point is, just because those other 8 are involved, that doesn’t mean the other 2 are worried about them or that the other 2 are increasing their offer because of those 8. Hell, they don’t even know those 8 exist in some cases.
-
No, I’m saying those are 10 offers you are looking at right now. Are you engaging on the other 8? Are you going back to them to say, do you want to raise your offer? Because I can tell you, when you are that far off, normally you don’t do that. What you do is get the 2 really good offers to go against each other but the others are just on the periphery and not really involved.
-
Then he doesn’t consider the Os. My point isn’t team specific. It’s just a general point. He absolutely may not like the Os prospects but is using the industry love for them to his advantage to drive up the price.
-
There is a very good argument that Basallo’s ceiling is higher than anyone in the organization outside of maybe Gunnar Henderson. It would not be surprising at all if he’s the #1 prospect in baseball this time next year. (Assuming his prospect status is still eligible which is likely) Mayo also has an incredibly high ceiling. The Os put a huge emphasis on what these guys do at the plate in terms of walks, power, EV numbers, etc…at very young ages, these guys have produced at a very high level and they can and do play premium positions. These are not the type of guys Elias will or should trade, at least not for what is available. They aren’t untouchable but the guys you would trade them for just aren’t available. Elias said this offseason, in so many words, that he has multiple untouchable prospects. We know Holliday is one. Hell, we have heard they won’t even trade Cowser or Kjerstad.
-
If you are selling your house and you have 10 contracts and 8 of them are for less than 400K and 2 of them are at 500k, do you care about the other 8 offers?
-
And you sure seem to not be able to read what I said. I’m simply saying that more teams doesn’t mean offers rise. You guys have zero idea to what level these teams are willing to go. Your best insider says the Yankees are getting more aggressive. Zero doubt he’s right about that. But what does it mean? There was no elaboration from there. That could mean so many different things. It could mean they are putting an “offer you can’t refuse” On the table Or it could mean that they have gone from luke warm to more engaging. Just have no idea. We have seen the national media say team X is “possibly” in on it. What does that mean? Is that a yes, a no or a well it makes sense so maybe? And btw, the same can be said about the Os. It’s lazy for these writers to just say, well the Os have the best prospects so they make the most sense. That’s wrong. The Os are definitely not putting their top 3 guys on the board but if they also aren’t putting Kjerstad or Cowser on the board, teams can easily compete/beat their offer. None of this reporting is solid. It’s all a bunch of conjecture, maybes and hearsay. The only actual info we have heard, if it’s true, is the Cinci trade package and that was obviously turned down.

The only thing that’s ultimately matters is what are teams willing to give up and who does Getz value. Other teams being involved is great and all but if 2 teams value Cease as a 1/2 starter and the rest value him at a #2/3 starter, the other teams don’t really matter. The only teams that matter in that scenario are the ones who value him at the highest…which is 2 teams.
-
You are assuming his pre market valuation is off.
-
As for Cease, the Mets are not viewed as the favorites. If any team is, it is the prospect-rich Orioles.
-
He absolutely may make the OD roster but they probably should wait to get the extra year out of him. That said, he more than likely doesn’t make it because they want him to become a RFer and play more at first. The bat is 100% ready.
