  1. Middle ground is always inevitable. Getz isn’t going to get everything everything he wants…and teams aren’t going to get Cease for the lesser packages they want. There will be some middle ground.
  2. It doesn’t matter what the Bears aren’t doing, it’s teams having a chance to draft one of the best QB talents in the last 25 years.
  3. Well they won 100 games, so it worked. But it was a complete failure in the playoffs. Of course, if you understand the playoffs and small sample sizes, you know that can happen. Had they traded for Cease last deadline they still get swept.
  4. Cease could definitely be worth more in July. It’s just a huge risk to take especially since the team sucks and the org can’t develop properly right now. Plus the injury factor. They are improving the defense though and he obviously has great stuff, so it could work..but I’d be shocked if he is throwing for the Sox on OD. A deal will come together.
  5. Yes because that is what I have said even though I have repeatedly said we need another front end starter.
  6. If you trade down 3 spots, you will still get 2 firsts and other picks/assets.
  7. You would get a huge haul if you traded down…no doubt about it. That said, I think you take Williams, trade Fields and take the best WR left with the other pick.
  8. Of course no one is wrong…that’s my damn point! Getz wants a lot because he should…other teams don’t want to pay it because they shouldn’t. Eventually a middle ground will be met with some team.
  9. To be clear, I’d be shocked if he’s not traded. Im solely talking about the idea that some seem to have that Elias is holding this up. If he is holding it up, so is every other interested GM…or maybe they just feel Getz is asking for too much and that’s why a deal hasn’t gotten done?
  10. I have said from the beginning that I would make a trade you all would agree to. I have said from the beginning that if Elias doesn’t get another real starter, it’s a failure on his part. But you guys have this belief that Getz is in the right here..yet no one is trading for Cease yet, other teams have moved onto other and sometimes lesser options and yet you guys continue to think Elias is the problem because he’s not giving you what you want. Are all the other GMs wrong too? Is the Reds GM wrong? Is Friedman wrong? Is Anthopolus wrong? Or is there some small chance that maybe Getz is requesting something so high that the other teams don’t feel it’s a trade worth making?
  11. Do you think trades have been proposed to other teams?
  12. I’m sorry, I missed the other teams that have traded for Cease. You all want to put this on Elias yet every single in team in baseball that is or has been interested in Cease have said thanks but no thanks.
  13. Gibson did work. Lyles worked. No, Flaherty didn’t.
  14. Everything you say here is wrong. Good job.
  15. lol. You are still trading Dylan Cease right?
  16. You develop your own pitching..that’s what you do. It either works or it doesn’t. The Os have also signed guys to 1 year deals to help eat innings and it’s worked the last 2 years.
  17. Well I’m one of the few Os fans that wouldn’t extend Adley. I would extend Gunnar and Holliday today…but I doubt they do and they lose them but those guys you can pay…because you aren’t replacing elite production. For whatever reason, you aren’t following my clear point and we are talking in circles, so you be happy to pay 8M for a 1.5 WAR player and I will be happy to trade that guy and pay 750k for it.
  18. They won’t spend that much but they don’t need to. But the biggest FA deal the Astros have given out during this run is 3/60 to Abreu. They will keep their own and make trades with guys who have bigger contracts but they don’t spend wildly in FA. It’s a largely home grown roster.
  19. The Rays biggest issue isn’t trading away guys they should have traded away…it’s the injuries they have endured, especially the last few years. They have 2 WS appearances and have been to the playoffs countless times. Amazing org that does many things extremely well. And yes, those teams spend more money but the thought process behind roster construction is fairly similar.
  20. I heard that the thought is Fields is worth a second rounder. Maybe you can squeeze out a first or get a 2 and 4 or something like that.
  21. The Braves don’t usually spend wildly in free agency. They keep their own, make trades, etc…same thing with Houston. Trading guys that aren’t worth the money they are being paid is just smart. Teams don’t do it out of fear or because they don’t have the young guys to bring up but that is their poor development. The Rays don’t have that issue.
  22. I think Dominguez has a higher ceiling as an all around player and a lower floor.
  23. The Braves are a bad example here. The Yankees have 1 title since they started buying more than developing. The Giants won on the back of a lot of developed guys. Dodgers have one title and it’s debatable how real that title even is. Boston won a lot but had a lot of guys they developed too. But it doesn’t change the point. I’ll use the Os as an example. Players like Ryan Mountcastle and Dean Kremer are good players. They start/get lots of at bats for almost any team in baseball. But I have no interest paying either 6+M a year. We should be able to develop that production for a fraction of the cost. Let someone else pay that money. I’m very much a stars and scrubs guy. That’s the best way to build a roster.
