Another thing to watch is how much $$ they eat in the Frazier/Robertson/Melky trades.

I guess I lump in the 2016 draft into the rebuild. That Collins pick is looking very bad to me. The Giolito/Lopez return for Eaton not looking good so far. Moncada/Kopech look about what you could reasonably expect. Robert looks good early. Not trading Q looks like a bad decision. I would say the plan has been OK, results not overwhelming. But you never know until about 20 years later how things turn out.

Danish got crushed again. How long until he's on the DL. Hickman had a nice start. 7Ks in 6 innings.

How does a team doing a total rebuild sell the #38 pick for $3.5MM? -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 09:29 PM) So I think the gun on Comcast was accurate for Rodon, which means he was 88-90 all game That is disaster if true.
-
Rodon 5.2, 7 hits 3 runs 1BB 1K 1K is kind of frightening.
-
Yeah, you CAN win with a lot of things. 15 blown saves since he's been here. I have PTSD from him.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 05:36 PM) Having watched Robertson for 2 1/2 years...still not even 100% convinced how certain I would be about him in the playoffs. You and me both. If I'm hoping to win a World Series, he's not my closer. Maybe a set up man.

Which young Sox hitter/s are you most excited about?

I liked Call but this is looking like a lost season -
White Sox pick 3B Jake Burger at #11

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 05:56 PM) How about someone like Robin Ventura, who was drafted #10 and delivered an average OPS of over .800 over a 16 year career. That kind of drafting gets you fired. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 05:46 PM) Teams can agree to pay for college costs in addition to any bonus money. I did not know this. Seems like a great incentive to sign. Also effectively subsidizes high school picks.
-
Maybe he said he'd sign for $200K or whatever the slot is.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) Grabbed a 1b high schooler, who is a bigtime water polo player and committed to school for it. 6'5, big power, athlete. That's all i got, couldn't even pick out his name. sounds like a wasted pick to me.

DRAFT TRACKER 2017, and Day One Discussion

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) And how did that work out for Giolito? Again, it isn't as easy as just "do it". How's that massive hitch working for Collins? It is easy to just "do it." It is not easy to "do it" with success. -

Troy Glaus was built like King Kong, but I'll take the comp and not complain. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 10:21 AM) He probably has 10's of thousands of reps doing something the same way. It isn't super-easy to change some of the basic mechanics. Yeah but he's got 10's of millions of reasons to change. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) Burger looks like Lance Berkman's son to me. Late stage Berkman. Physically he reminds me of Greg Luzinski! -

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) Why is the arm bar hard to correct? Just tell him not to straighten his left arm when he prepares to swing. You would think but sometimes guys just won't change "what got them there." Zack Collins for example. -

QUOTE (Soha @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 09:06 AM) If nothing else, this should be a good example for people who think tanking isn't important. A few years ago the Sox missed out on Benintendi over a couple of wins, and now they are in the first spot that this draft falls off. There's never guarantees, even with the top pick, but your chances sure are better the higher you go. exactly what I was thinking. A couple of meaningless wins last year cost us some of the most appealing guys in the draft. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) You then responded with a series of statements, one of which I commented on. No one asked you to.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) No one has asked you to feel sorry for him. What is this? some sort of bizarro discussion where I can only answer questions you ask? OK. Shoot.

He's already gotten a tremendous deal. No jail. Free college education. Maybe he can make something of himself. I don't feel sorry for him in the least.
