  1. An economist would look at the income statement and say, s*** LOOK AT ALL THOSE DIVIDENDS PAID OUT!
  2. spend it however you want. just not on old bums when your team sucks.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) hindsight really is in play here. C'mon now. Who signs a gold-glover and puts him at DH? only the sox.
  4. I'm just saying: why not invest the $40 million to build the best minor league infrastructure in baseball instead of a wild-ass gamble on contending for a wild card? How many scouts could you hire with that? Every one of them could have a PhD in statistics!
  5. The Smarj one was OK in theory, because you figured they could deal him at the trade deadline at worst.
  6. I've been complaining for 25 years but nobody listens. Drafting Bobby Seay and Jeff Weaver and refusing to sign them. Drafting bums like Royce Ring and loads of other guys just because they will sign. Having virtually no scouting infrastructure in Latin America for decades.
  7. Pay top $$ for stars, not replaceable bums. Laroche? GMAFB. A decent organization signs guys like that off the street!
  8. how many people in these few threads today have complained that the Sox don't spend enough on players? I don't recall many if any at all. The problem is they are stupid and short-sighted. $40 million in salary down the toilet this year on 4 bums they acquired. Decades of playing cheap with the minor league system. Finally that seems to have been changed a couple years ago, but assuming that problem is solved it will take another 5-10 years to see the full benefit.
  9. The Sox pissed away $40 million on 2015 salary on mediocre acquisitions this year: Cabrera, Laroche, Duke, and Smarj. Imagine the other ways $40 could have been invested.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 11:06 AM) But will still put plenty of effort into following it and complaining about it. yeah, the couple thousand fans who are cursed to have it in their DNA. nobody else gives a damn about an irrelevant team.
  11. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) 2006 was probably the one year it wasn't a surprise. yeah, and then it was a disappointment.
  12. The team has won 90 games only 6 times in the 35 years JR's been in charge. In those years it takes everybody by surprise and its all over before they realize what happened. Then its back to mediocrity.
  13. I can't help but think losing about 25 pounds would help Flowers' game. He's pretty rotund.
  14. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 10:10 AM) For some reason DRS really loves Flowers (+14), though I'm not sure why. How are catchers evaluated I wonder? It's not very obvious how to measure their defensive performance.
  15. Now that I have a family, an MLB game is the only one I can afford to take them to!
  16. IMO it all comes down to winning. Not just 85 wins and hoping for a wild card. I mean a damn good team that wins more than 90 games for 2-3 years in a row. The park would be packed.
  17. Baseball Reference has them at 19th in Wins Above Average. So you can pick your stat to support whatever case you want. Regardless the pitching is pretty good. Lineup is horrific.
  18. How are they just going to get better hitters overnight without trading away the pitching?
  19. OMG. Dead last in position WAR in all MLB. This lineup needs a massive talent infusion to be a World Series contender.
  20. Dick is one of the "good fans." Why can't you all be more like Dick.
  21. I'd let them both play in 2016. Pray for a miracle. Let Laroche ride the pines unless he proves otherwise.
  22. I wonder how fully aware he is of his tenuous grasp of a 25-man roster spot.
  23. worst case, he accepts. then you can trade him, right? eat a couple of mil if you have to. worth the pick.
