  1. I've always thought I'd outlive JR but now I'm not so sure.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) We're gonna need to focus on defense first than before hitting. Might be more realistic than adding 2-4 mashers to the lineup.
  3. The 1964 sox won 99 games with tremendous pitching and hardly any hitting. Maybe that could work again.
  4. No I find it entertaining myself. Again disappointed in the numbers not the article.
  5. While rookie ball numbers look good, I don't know how variable and predictive they are. Only like 150 ABs, what are playing conditions, pitchers like? how do other orgs compare? I'm not complaining about rookie ball numbers, I just don't know how excited I can get about such things.
  6. I'm not disappointed in the work put into the report. I'm disappointed in the players! It was a good report! I liked it!
  7. Sox don't have enough assets to give up on marginal guys like Micah and Avi. Work with them, put them in positions to succeed. Hopefully they can develop some value.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) Now, I don't think the Sox will do this. They'll try to craft some scenario where a 2016 team has a shot to surprise...and they'll probably fail again. Management has no other choice since we are such bad fans.
  9. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 12:09 PM) He is a legend. A legend alright. but not in a good way.
  10. I can't follow what you are talking about. I was saying the system is pretty devoid of hitting prospects, but we all knew that. Would have been nice for a couple guys to break out.
  11. I loved those Torborg teams. No playoffs, but you could see a lot of hope on the horizon.
  12. Rongey.....I don't even know where to get started with that guy. Why does he have to argue with everyone? Just say, "hey Bob, appreciate your thoughts. Thanks for the call." Click.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 09:15 AM) why??? should be self evident. how many guys are you excited about from high-A on up?
  14. I already mentioned this in another thread, but 6 90-win seasons in the past 35 years. That's not going to cut it in a city like Chicago where there are roughly a million other things to spend your entertainment dollar on.
  15. man I really am an anachronism....I would rather watch the players play and listen to Nancy Faust play her organ.
  16. Hey hey! I like these guys. I listen to way more games than I watch. They grow on you over time.
  17. I just looked at combined pitcher & batting WAR numbers on fangraphs. playoff teams are generally in the 40+ WAR range. Sox are in 27th place at 23 WAR That's a lot of WAR to make up. There's a lot of low-hanging fruit around here too though.
  18. I wonder if anyone has every sat him down and said essentially, "Avi, you suck at baseball. I mean you REALLY suck at baseball. Do you understand that? You need to make massive improvements if you have aspirations to continue being a major league baseball player."
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) It will be interesting to see where the "truth" is for Thompson as a hitter. There's only one way to find out!
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) can anyone imagine what it would been like in the 60's.... yeah I remember waiting for the new Baseball Digest to come to the school library so I could look at stats from other teams. There was no other way.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 11:49 AM) That first apart isn't true. His time in Birmingham was dismal. So in the past six years, he's had one bad year and the next year improved at the same level. Thanks for pointing that out.
  22. he's always kept his head above water in the minors as he's moved up the ladder. wouldn't be surprised if he could do the same in the majors. if he can hit .250 45BB 15HR and play great D, HES ON THE TEAM FOR NEXT YEAR!
  23. Daryl Boston was pretty slick with the glove.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 08:01 AM) Any surprises here for people? Surprises, no. Disappointing, yes.
  25. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 08:37 PM) can you believe KW said he was going to be a 300 hitter/ 30 hr/ 30 SB guy? which is why it is a little scary thinking of them trading Quintana.
