QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) I'd like to note a few things on the development side, that are worth keeping in mind... 1. The draft tactics have changed, pretty substantially, in part because of increased voices from people who aren't Sox lifers. They got away from the piling on "safe" picks with a few football players thrown in, and are generally drafting higher ceiling talent. This has been going on for a few years now, and the farm system in the lower levels is starting to show signs of that improvement. 2. The team's international (primarily LatAm) pipeline was basically empty until around 2011, but starting in 2012 they have dramatically increased spending there and really opened up the talent pool. You are starting to see some of those players in the state-side minors now. 3. While the team has generally been really, really bad at developing hitters, let's remember that this year's full time 2B's (Johnson, Sanchez) were developed internally, as were Thompson (who is looking like a major leaguer in some capacity) and Saladino (who looks like a competent utility man). Those aren't huge steps, but they are steps compared to the past... oh... decade. That doesn't include Semien (who is a starting SS, though he should really be a 2B) or Phegley (who is a competent platoon bat, albeit with poor defense) who are with Oakland. Not that everything is rosy, but development-wise things have absolutely been changing. And generally for the better. Unfortunately, it may take another 2-3 years before we really start seeing the MLB expression of full value from those changes. excellent the biggest change is the first part. the main tactics or to put it in other terms, their approach in everything in baseball.

Are we back on to rumors again? everything always starts with rumors and then it come out otherwise. everything on this forum starts with a rumor, b/c no one has that special inside info. so do you have a special link to the inside org ideas of what they want to do??

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) Then Reinsdorf's legacy won't end up that much better than Comiskey's... Taking a World Series team and running it into the ground when they were recently 8th-12th in the Forbes valuations isn't very easy to do, especially with that team and owner-friendly lease deal. his legacy for me, good business man who missed many opportunities to bring more than that one elusive WS ring. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) Just in case anyone was wondering: here's a graph that shows that ranks the managers on challenging calls: http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-ou...ng-plays-100515 nice link. i am surprise on where RV he is rated in the chart. very surprise.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 07:10 PM) Life long pass? The dude's team just won the Cup months ago! and i gave him credit for that, credit for remaking the team, but he also screwed up on the 2 trades that were there. no one will do everything right, but accept he also screwed up.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 07:11 PM) Nobody is giving him any pass. He's good at his job. They have won 3 cups that he's been directly involved in. He remade the team again this offseason. It's absurd. It's not just you. i accept that, that is why i can give him credit, credit he deserves for overcoming some major problems. i am not 100% hateful on him, i can see the good thing he has done. but i will not be blind either.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) I hope he's much more Bryant and much less Peterson he is still developing and there is still a new season to see how he progress.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) Bowman has 3 championships with the Hawks and fans still question him. Ridiculous. and i have gone this route before with other posters. b/c he is has done extremely well in overcoming hurdles, doesn't give him a life long pass on his future dealing.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) Isn't drafting and then having the coaches developing them a huge part of the job? but you need to draft the right person and assume the lower level coaches can develop them. think of Danault and McNeill. plus no goalie who worth anything, second he lost hayes.... but i will not go there I don't think you can say he gets played over and over again because he has had limited bargaining power because of the team so strapped to the cap. i will not go there, b/c i have my belief. Cam Barker got us Leddy Leddy netted us Pokka who probably is the #1 D man in the system now. time is too early here. Sharp and Johns netted us a top 4 D man, and a top 9 winger who is physical and has enough skill to keep up. as i said, i will not respond. Saad got us Anisomov and Dano. i definitely will not respong, big time. Common theme, young players they developed got really good and priced themselves off the Hawks. I don't see why the Hawks can't do it now with this team. you are right, and that is the point of my contention with him. it seems as the hawks will need 2 gm for the org, bowman in finding talent and drafting and another who can do the negotiation and trades.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 05:15 PM) Thank you voice of reason. I watched all the preseason games and he was barely on the ice and if he was he was barely noticeable. Dano will be a big part of the Hawks this year. I just think he's hurt and the Hawks can't afford a guy on the roster now who might not be ready to play at full speed. Also Panarin is one slick little dude. He's got some Kane-like skills. Just hope he learns quickly that those fancy moves will get you benched if you turn over the puck too much that is why i don't think they will not compliment each other on the same line. but what the hell do i know.
-
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) Stan Bowman would be a pedestrian GM if it wasn't for drafting. It seems like he gets played over and over again by other GMs, and yet he manages to find talent. just b/c i can acknowledge his accomplishment and his good works, i still have my negative opinions on his work. he can't or he seems to me to not gauge contracts or length or value a player. second, i agree with your statement. but you are right about finding talent.

2015 White Sox Minor League Statistical Leaders - Relievers
LDF replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 10:39 PM) Relievers in general are not going to be top prospects, with some exceptions. Especially in the lower minors, their ceiling values are just very low. Of the names you saw in this article, leaving Stephens (who will be a starter next year probably) out, only a few of them are even in sniffing distance of the top 30 overall prospects. So there are certainly far more ranked starters. That said, relievers can sometimes move more quickly and add their small value, sooner. dang, i didn't think of that. -
QUOTE (Coach @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) Here is what I wrote yesterday about bringing Ventura back and why Hahn thinks it's a good thing. But here are my questions: While also acknowledging a need for tactical improvement, Hahn said the organization believes Ventura capable of making the changes needed to win. “If we didn’t feel as an organization that Robin had the ability to be a championship caliber manager, he wouldn’t be here,” Hahn said. “If we felt we didn’t have a championship caliber hitting coach, he wouldn’t be here. And here lies the problem. Ventura is not the only one to blame for these consecutive losing seasons. He is only part of the problem. But I have some questions. 1. Ventura had no managerial experience when hired. After 4 seasons, Ventura has not figured out how to manage at the major league level? He must be a really slow learner then. 2. After 4 seasons, how will Ventura change his tactics? All managers have their own way of doing things, so if upper management wants tactical improvements, who will really be making game time decisions? 3. How can any White Sox management or fan truly believe they have a championship caliber hitting coach if their offense has truly sucked for several years? All season long LaRoche has struck out 33% of the time. Wouldn't you think the hitting coach can help change his approach at the plate? LaRoche stands straight up. They may work in the NL but perhaps not in the AL. Either LaRoche should have changed or leave him out of the lineup. I have seen way too many swings from the whole team at balls bouncing at 57-59 feet. No plate discipline. 4. Base running has been really bad the past several seasons and Ventura refuses to address this. Why? Does he think always running on contact is a good thing? I have seen way too many guys getting doubled off because they break on contact instead of seeing the play develop first. This is basic baseball and that issue falls squarely on the manager. This is a concept players are taught in T-Ball. The fundamentals simply do not change as you age. I believe most were not from hit and runs since the Sox do not have enough good contact hitters so that eliminates a very effective strategy. These are just to name a few. i like it. but you miss one important part. 5. this whole system as is needs work. work that if it continues to be neglected, will lead to more fans loosing faith, if they haven't already.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 02:03 PM) Sure they can. But AFAIK, in the 30+ years they've owned the team they have never done that. So I doubt they'd start now. According to Jerry, they try to run as close to break-even as possible. that in the bold is a great point and in all honesty, they the owner of the sox need to really spend money in off season, esp if other factors comes into play.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 01:44 PM) http://www.statista.com/statistics/196644/...sox-since-2006/ $227 million in revenues last season (2014). Tied for 18th. Well up over 2013 despite a poor product. Revenues generated outperformed team record in the standings in 2013 and 2014. 16th in overall team valuation according to Forbes. Revenues should have risen to the middle teens to meet the offseason growth of season ticket plans sold this year. Seems we are exactly where we belong, all things considered. http://www.statista.com/statistics/193645/...-teams-in-2010/ excellent links.. now i will make my say and offer my apologies. i was mistaken in some post early last week on the numbers. i must have misread forbes financial rpt on the sox going back to 2001. my bad. i was wrong. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) Honestly this kind of terrifies me. For all we talk about wanting Reinsdorf to step down, I think it's more likely we find an owner try to buy that wants to move us than one that brings in a great new baseball system. you bring up an interesting point. for me, it is not that i want him to step down, but to change his philosophy on running the team. die hard sox fans are that... die hard. no matter what or how many times crap is thrown at us. i loyalty to the team is strong. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) I'm not opposed to the Sox taking a pitcher at #10 if he's the best player on the board but here is some stuff about some of the early favorites on the position players side. Bobby Dalbec 3B Arizona 6'4 215 https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...bec-3b-arizona/ Chris Okey C Clemson 5'11 195 https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...okey-c-clemson/ Nick Banks OF Texas A&M 6'0 200 https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...ks-of-texas-am/ Corey Ray OF Louisville 5'11 185 https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...-of-louisville/ Blake Rutherford OF Chaminade, HS. QUOTE (captain54 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 06:57 AM) I don't think you are going to see any significant increase in viewership or attendance, unless the Sox come up with a strong April and May of 2016, and play without the bonehead mistakes, miserable defense, and non existent offense..I think the FO is deluding themselves if they think a roster reshuffling in the offseason is gonna bring fans back like it did in 2015 you do make a valid point, i will not dispute it. but if the sox do invest wisely and get the pieces, some positive feeling will come thru. but only if the fans see the positive investment. now if the northsiders , and i hate to see this, do well in the playoff. everything will be thrown out the window. -

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 03:28 AM) Most fanbases are like this, too. If you want people to watch, put a viable product on the field. As far as a Hawks TV network? I doubt it. The Blackhawks still aren't profitable so there is no reason to be thinking about that kind of investment. Also, there's just not a lot of hockey interest outside of Canada, Buffalo, and Chicago. i am not using this to criticize the org, but this is me showing that i still have faith in the sox i grew up with. after they get the pieces to improve .... and it is positive , the season tickets will sell and mark my words, if the offseason is good. the fans will start watching next yr. -
btw, i been following the cape the last 2 weeks and the leaders are all over the place. the favorites struggling except for 1, which i will mention later. the main college pitchers are not playing, which i was happy, considering all the injuries happening. last yr donnie deweese the scrubs 2 nd rounder happ the scrubs 1 rnd and thompson 3b had a great cape season. this yr so far, bobby dalbec is putting up some monster hrs.... even tho is on avg of the others numbers. one blog had him hitting monsters shot. as fan graph wrote several months ago i like this. ref Ray, he is dropping but i don't think he is playing there. here is the link. http://www.pointstreak.com/baseball/stats....amp;orderby=avg
