QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) OK, watched the Skeleton Twins and Birdman on my computer this week since I have some free time. Is it common knowledge that Hader and Wiig can act? I'd give that movie a B-minus. Probably worth watching. Birdman ... how did Keaton not win the Academy Award? Can you do any better than he did as an actor? Did he win any of the minor awards for that performance at least? And to those who watched Birdman ... how do you explain the ending? What did it mean? Spoiler alert coming for old movie... Stop reading here if u still are to watch Birdman. OK, Birdman obviously had some powers. Remember Keaton willed that light fixture to fall off the ceiling and hit the actor on the head early in the movie and Keaton character broke some things just by looking at them. So he did have some powers and it was believable he might be able to fly. The scene with the taxi driver not getting paid, however, was an obvious ploy of the filmmaker to tell the audience Birdman cannot fly. So what was his daughter looking at as she gazed out the window? Did he really fly away or fall to his death? I would suspect he fell to his death and she was looking up happy he had escaped his demons and was now up in the clouds forever. But from the tone of the movie that isn't the correct response she would have. She was pretty emotional and wouldn't be happy her dad jumped to his death. Also, remember the last time he flew it apparently was an out of body dream like experience because the presence of the taxi driver proved he didn't fly. So there definitely could be another flying dream sequence at the conclusion of the film. I don't buy that he really killed himself on stage. I would think the movie would have ended right there had he done that or shortly after showing he got good reviews after all. The planned ending with Johnny Depp would have been really weird as well. What is the correct meaning of the ending of Birdman?? The fact it's not clear I think hurts the movie. I would say the scene with the taxi driver is telling that he cannot fly. Had that scene not been in the movie then I might be able to buy the current ending. Because of that scene I think they should have spelled out more what happened to Birdman. I would give Birdman a B as at times the darkness of the movie got annoying. I wouldn't argue with B-plus. ref birdman. i gave it a A- to A. excellent acting..... all around in movie. Keaton, on top of the game as well. i am confuse with the ending and i still am lost ... i think it will always be one of those things that goes unexplained. lets see, ending. dead vs flying powers vs grief reaction vs ???? nice post.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 03:31 AM) That's true but they were never that irrelevant in their own market. John Allyn made the drastic changes that were needed in September 1970 after the disasters of 68 and 69 to change the direction of the franchise and by 1972 they were a contender. And Bill Veeck despite his issues (and he had many) at least was always cooking up crazy things to keep the fans / media interested in the team even with four losing seasons in the five years he owned them. If you look at the totality of the situation (save for the financial side - all MLB teams are rolling in money) the Sox are in a bad state right now. I talked about some of the issues in my column "Loyalty without Accountability..." Attendance has dropped eight straight years, TV ratings are rock bottom, the media by and large could care less. Now throw in the Cubs who look like they have an actual future. The Sox keep stumbling around, getting in their own way, talking about "three year windows," and can't seem to right the ship. That's a dangerous state to be in, in my opinion. Mark this is no pun on your name but the sox fans have heard all the b/s lip service that the sox FO has spewed. so why should they want to or feel motivated to spend their hard earned money on a product that reaks of incompetence in the front office and their narrowmindedness of hiring lackeys for key positions such as Managers.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 04:38 AM) For 2 games, this team has actually been fun to watch. Good D, smart baserunning, power hitting, solid pitching. Fun! and start the momentum for the sox. nice.... but dang it. they are screwing up the draft pick order.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 04:37 AM) It's all about the bat for Rondon, imo. They know what he can do with the glove. Eddy has a bat that could maybe someday play in the bigs, especially if he can man short while doing it. I like their strategy. Eddy will still be old for level at 26 in B'Ham in 2016, but we'll have a good idea by this time next year if he has a future in the bigs. that sound great to me..... many thanks.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 03:05 AM) does he have any defensive skills? i hate to say anything that appears to give you an idea of i am seeing him or have any inside info. sorry. but my take is if rondon was moved, then they are working out eddy at ss over rondon. which seems to be the case.
-
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 01:24 AM) This Jaeckel guy is clueless. As soon as I saw his name in the link, I decided that I wasn't going to click it. He keeps bringing up this stupid Crawford to Winnipeg idea (even recently to New Jersey, obviously not knowing they have a good goalie) and Bickell to Arizona or New Jersey (still waiting...). there was an interesting part that was added. but i will let others read it. for any lack of info, i just look at everything, but i don't post everything .....
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 12:52 AM) I guess this also gives Rondon a chance to work with the bat. If he can get his bat to play they could move him back to SS. or they are now key on eddie as being a the next ss of the org.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 01:51 AM) Unlike most Sox prospects, Saladino does look like he has played the game longer than 6 months omce called up. One thing he does have in common with just about every position player they call up, despite having 45 plate appearances, his next walk will the the first of his career. that deserves some props......

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 01:24 AM) I wonder if or how many scouts are in Cleveland watching Q tonight. interesting.... never thought of that today.... nice one.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 01:16 AM) Sox have lost the casual fan in Chicago for good. I am a diehard I watch no matter what, but most people have no interest in the Sox. i don't know about that.... put a winning team and things will chg. the sox recipe is ok, it is faith...... but here is the owners counting the money they are making this yr as oppose to last yr. now.... we will try to get better next yr.... many trades can happen, but who knows. money counting continue.

interesting article..... even this site hasn't been given props... every once in a while they have something. today i like it. including all the phoney bs coming from the blackhawks fo. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/John-Jaecke...umors/128/70129

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 01:02 AM) Clearly its the inherently poor character of White Sox fans that is the root of all the problems. having grown up a sox fan since the 60's.... i have heard this many times and ok i agree..... and a typical response from any sox fa would be...... so, deal with it.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 12:54 AM) Some fans are delusional. "Bah! We're a top tier team we don't need to get rid of our top prospects! Arrrrrr!" pls don't get me wrong. i am with you. but the fans see 1 side of this. and that is why i keep saying sox fans are smarter......... we are looking at the whole picture. it is the management and FO of the dodgers that may be feed up with puig.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 12:42 AM) Went over to the Dodgers board, yeah its a complete joke. They were coming at me, and don't think it would cost one of the big 3 to get Sale lol got to give you credit for have the big ones to go over there.
-
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 11:57 PM) Not sure I agree. Sox added Abreu last year who had a big year but I don't think it had a major impact on this year's season ticket sales. and you have a point. however it is not the same in the marquee kind of attraction. it was like big frank and rv on the team..... both great players, but big frank was the marquee player.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 12:06 AM) One thing to remember, Q would only be traded in a big deal. Not trading him to trade him. ' exactly.......
-
QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 12:57 AM) They've been unwatchable since game 1. How could you blame fans for not wasting 3 hours a night on this? i still give the season tickets holder credit for going to their games.....

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 12:47 AM) Chisox: I have no inside knowledge but I think the Sox would very much like to make some moves. The thing is though, you need two to make a deal and frankly they just may not have a lot that anybody else wants (Assuming of course based on an article I read last week I think in the Sun-Times that Sale and Jose were basically "untouchable..." Pitching to me is the single most important (and rare) aspect to the game today so I can see why the Sox would be reluctant to do that. However as you point out, they are between a rock and a hard place, the only way to get good positional talent may force them to have to move pitching. (Which could create more holes...) A decade (or more) of neglecting the farm system and being unwilling to spend money on it is now coming home to roost. Mark however if their asking price is toooo outlandish to be called ridiculous....
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 12:37 AM) I really am not surprised that our position players rank that poorly. It is also why I have struggled to see how Sox management can't make moves to enhance the lineup and focus on getting new young talent (and not be worried about contending for the rest of the season). I also think being this bad (even though in some cases, I expect more reversion to the mean by the end of the year) is why we need to move some assets on the pitching side to try and change the position dynamic and that means dealing from our strength's (one of Q / Sale). When it comes to ratings, I'm about as big of a fan as I can get and to be frank, I can't stand to watch this team. I often find myself get so frustrated by their poor fundamentals that I just turn the game off. who really want to see this continue b/s that is fielded and the lack of motivational that affects their skills.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 12:14 AM) Don't know if anybody has seen these two articles that came out today. I've included the links to them. After reading them the conclusion I come to is that this franchise is in deep, deep trouble. In trouble from a competitive standpoint, in trouble from an attendance standpoint, in trouble from a rating / viewer standpoint and in trouble from a perception / relevance standpoint. (Notice however I didn't say from a financial standpoint...) Overall it appears to me this franchise hasn't been this bad off since the late 80's when they were threatening to move to Florida. Just look where the Sox rank TV-wise in the two graphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/new-numbers...n-not-imminent/ "This isn’t just a bad group of position players, it is arguably one of the worst collections of position players ever assembled." http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-impress...te-sox-offense/ Mark many thanks.... i am surprise that there was some sort of info on all this. pretty much what many on this site has biitched about.
-
i am really surprise he really didn't open up about the players opinion of what is happening in the clubhouse this season. and that is a credit to him for not saying anything.
-
you know. if the sox does deal with puig, this would definitely add another superstar personality to the team..... great or season tickets and corp sponsorship money. also this might add a spark to the team. however the holes needs to be mended.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 10:39 PM) I think one of the reasons the rake or slant of the upper deck became such an issue was the lack of a roof backdrop originally...the perception that it's safer or more protected to be up there. Undoubtedly the inclusion of the club/luxury boxes forced it as well, since the seats were getting pushed further away from the playing surface. If you could look from the upper deck and have a higher, unobstructed view straight towards the downtown skyline those tickets would be much easier to sell for night games. The feel would be totally different. oh i was up there on some fri night games, really nice weather, it was great..... i also fell down the stairs up there..... it is too freaking steep. but that view of chi...... that was nice.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:46 PM) Surprised the Angels are wasting their time on another Sox castoff. There was a time last year he had that sweet stroke going. But offseason came around and Gillaspie turned back into a pumpkin. Maybe with better instruction he'll be a good singles hitter to all fields. here is a question, what happen if he really performs for them...... i let yous guys fill out the rest.

ok, if a team wants to pay the simple price, then shark is that person, however if the want to pay extra and then it is Q. i would also, for me, trade Q to a nl team instead of a al team.
