QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2015 -> 12:46 AM) Funkhouser has not pitched like a top 10 guy this year. for some of these posters, i really don't think it matters. however, i can see, if the team who draft them are going on that potential. Funkhouser and several more will do ok come draft day.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ May 15, 2015 -> 10:26 PM) I would be very pleased with this were the pick, you can have catch but if the bat is really something he can go to the OF or 1B while the potential is enticing, the sox will need this pick, regardless if it is a pitcher or positional player to step up in a 1 1/2 yrs.

here is the link for hrs in the ncaa... i still like D. Dewees. he is 2 behind. his overall hitting across the board is really nice. http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/470

QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) Benitendi has some crazy stats. He's surpassed Happ as the best college bat available. re Happ, just like DJ Stewart. the pitchers weren't pitching to him, and i think he started to press, there was talk that he is letting the pressure of the draft affect his approach. too bad, i had him in my preseason fav's. also, i really am not that much of a fan of Bentendi, for starters i really hope he grows. he is like 5'9 a generous 5.10.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 15, 2015 -> 08:08 PM) Well out of that current group of FA catchers, only one I would be interested in is Matt Wieters and he's coming off TJ. you may very well be right, i was just stating that the sox have major holes in a area or 2. JS walks and the teams needs to address those holes as best as possible. there are going to be some tight, very tight expectations from the FO and they may not be able to answer those expectations, due to salary.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 15, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) No catcher available is worth that kind of money besides Buster Posey. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/09/2016...ree-agents.html There's a list of all free agents next year. there is something called, supply and demand. it all depends on how teams views their own catcher and see if there is a better option via FA.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 15, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) Zimmerman, Greinke, and Cueto will all cost much more than Shark. I also would be surprised to see the White Sox pony up for a QO free agent year. Can't afford to give up another high draft pick, especially a 1st rounder. unless it might be for a catcher.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 15, 2015 -> 06:51 PM) Then they probably use the $$ that they offered Samardzija to sign someone else or they make a trade. Not really sure. again, 100% that is the undecided factor of what we, as fans have to think about. that is why these discussion are great. everyone is right ..... and everyone is wrong. here is another thought, didn't anyone have these discussion with friends growing up??
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 15, 2015 -> 05:50 PM) It's not the movie Moneyball though. Hahn isn't calling down to Ventura to tell him what guys to play. It is Rick's decision to send Micah Johnson to the minor leagues though. Robin can manage how he wants with the 25 given to him that particular day. It's like that in most cases around baseball. and within that scope of your statement, i 100% agree.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 15, 2015 -> 06:31 PM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20150515 Charlotte- Johnson Birmingham- Danish Winston Salem- Leyer Kannapolis- Almonte this is going to be really interesting.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 15, 2015 -> 06:40 PM) If they re-sign Samardzija they don't need anyone to step in next year. A front four of Sale-Q-Rodon-Samardzija is nasty. if you don't mind, let me counter that and ask, if the sox do not resign him, then what??

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ May 15, 2015 -> 05:44 PM) Anyone should be allowed to make personal decisions for themselves. Personnel decisions is another matter entirely. and lets take it further, personal decision with in the scope of his duties to make the day to day decision regarding the team on the field.
-
the manager job is to work with the team that is given, to make the day to day decision of on the field part of baseball. the lineup and players association of the field. to make any necessary changes that will be, within the spec of his duties with regard to the day to day games. the manager will give way to any roster changes, provide any request that will help him in performance of his duties. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manager_%28baseball%29 the GM is responsible for the complete roster, any substitute changes that the team needs to play on the day to day games. beside those duties, he is responsible for any other duties as assign by the owner or president or both. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_manager_%28baseball%29

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 15, 2015 -> 06:22 PM) The whole point it appears you are trying to make is that the manager should make personal decisions and that is absolutely not the case for any team in baseball. The GM makes a roster, it is the manager's job to best utilize that roster. If the GM does not like the way a manager is utilizing his resources then the manager needs to shape up or ship out. i don't necessary agree, but that is for a later time. the other point is the FO makes the day to day decisions, that was the discussion.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 15, 2015 -> 05:57 PM) The thrill is gone...............RIP Mr. King just for music lovers, can you imagine the great artists at that time?? the great music being created?? 1 bourbon, i scotch i beer, crossroads, the ladies of blues..... what an era.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 15, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) The Judge - 2.5 of 5 stars. Decent rental. RDJ holds the film together but it's a shallow story. They try for drama - it gets flat. They try for nostalgia - fail again. It's supposed to be a bit of a tearjerker, but that also fails. Would not watch again. excellent point. i never thought of it that way.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 15, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) I don't understand your confusion. Do you really think that the manager makes the call on who is called up or sent down and not the GM? If so, that's ridiculous. Sure the manager can give his input but it is not his call. And yes that applies to every team in the Major Leagues no matter who the manager is. you are taking 1 little snippet and embellishing it to make a point. pls reread the whole statement. jeez i would have thought i wouldn't need to explain something so simple.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 15, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) I wanted Micah on roster. Micah showed great promise with bat on an otherwise struggling horrible offense. Micah was truly horrible on defense, on a team with a struggling horrible offense. Micah now gets to go down knowing he can hack it offensively (which is much better than most of our prospects) but needs to work on footwork. I'm pleased with that situation. nice, really nice, fvvck it, an excellent best case scenario. there is no reason to go into that funk, he proved he could hack it offensively.
