QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 11:36 AM) Flowers is bad and AJ is old. Unfortunately Hahn tried to upgrade the C position over the last few offseasons, but there really is not too many good catchers out there. At least for a reasonable price. On a side note, it's pretty cool that AJ and Buerhle can still play this game at an impressive level. he didn't try too hard, there is always the FA, rt

  4. this is going to sound negative and i am saying it isn't meant to be. this is prob the by product of the owners group and playing nice nice. not to offend or rock the boat. so yeah, i agree, the sox players are getting the short end of this crap.
  5. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 07:43 PM) I believe if one looked at the Sox fan site forums ten years ago there were several options. We were the underdogs, the small guys. We have suspended and banned members far less than some sites, a little more than others. In the end, we've hit a balance that attracts passionate, knowledgeable fans, that can disagree without it turning ugly every time. It seems to be a winning formula and without much hyperbole I believe we are the best Sox board out there. It's 2015 and we are still surviving well after forum popularity has declined. One thing remains constant, the better the record, the better we get along. Nothing like a slow start or a prolonged losing street (three days?) for things to get testy. i was here with tex and several others, when this place was like the wild west old movies. poster came over the start crap, we won. but it showed that this site had the muscles and the knowledge of the white sox and an owner who care about this site. i left, due to health reasons, last yr when i came back, yeah there were some new rules. but i believe those rules were necessary as in all things that grows. to keep some semblance of order. plus as always, the most important this is, do not have mods or admins that are dicks.
  6. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) FOX Sports: MLB @MLBONFOX #Orioles announced schedule update Tomorrow's #WhiteSox game closed to public 2:05pET Weekend #Rays series now in TB Wow. No fans at tomorrow's game. WOW, no fans. has that ever happen in the history of baseball??? ballsy move. i don't know if i like it or not.
  7. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) Absolutely. But the relatively low bar of entry into the profession is going to allow more bad apples in the bunch. i disagree, there are some people who always wanted to be a police officer. the safety of corruption and following the leader. the being in the kool club, even among the PD is still the problem. they, the PD should make the individual officer responsible for their actions.
  8. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 06:35 PM) I like this, even though he's a HSer. everything i read suggested Tucker to Hou, b/c of his older brother Preston.
  9. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) Call up a company of 200-300 employees at 5PM and try to get them to come in the next day when they're scheduled to be off. Honestly, I'm sure the front office staff could work it with no issue, but the vast majority of the "Gameday" staff (concessions, ticket takers, ushers, guest relations, janitorial) are hourly, non-full time, and unionized in separate unions. Possible? Certainly, but a tall, tall order, indeed. And it would involve several frantic, desperate people making a bunch of phone calls all night. And, perhaps most importantly, the organization that would be required to pull the miracle off has no skin in the game at all (Nationals). are those people who works for the park are still paid??
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) Unless it matters, have a feeling some of these games won't be made up i am for playing them in the summer in chi!!
  11. baseball is the victim of this bull s***. i disagree with the canceling, but like my opinion is really going to matter.
  12. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) I wouldn't think it was. But what about the stuff that never makes it to IA? Where they 'talk' the person into not pressing the case or something? I am sure there are a lot of incidents that don't get reported. I also know that there are a lot of made up cases of violence against cops, which I am sure makes it difficulty for IA and supervisors. During all that Occupy stuff, there were emails going around telling people that if they were arrested to claim they were beat up and/or otherwise abused, even if they weren't. it happens. you can not make a case of something that has never been brought to light. second, many patrols cars have internal camera in the cars.
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) So they are just playing one game today then? There is no way they can play a 7 start when there is a 1000 curfew in effect. good point, this is american #1 past time. i wonder how they are going to work around that.
  14. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) Respectfully, I completely disagree. There is absolutely no reason for it to be played, and doing so sends no "message" whatsoever. This is not FDR preserving the American way of life on the homefront during WWII. This itself is a war zone. nice point. that is can be a message that the police, the city government will not take this anymore. set up an area for those who wish to protest, get the so called peaceful ministers and politicians to do damage control. then treat everyone else doing looting and burning as criminals.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) So if the major or city council was white, like in LA during the Rodney King and OJ Simpson debacles...then it would make it, what, worse? Who was leading the city during the Rampart investigations? You're telling me that the culture of the police force is set by the mayor and Democrats? REALLY? http://article.wn.com/view/2015/04/20/Majo...gns_After_Firs/ If that's your example, then Parma, Missouri, is an easy counter-example to cite. Should I keep going? digressing from what is on hand.... me thinks.
  16. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) but its the ones that don't get there, like your case, that just build up tensions but never get addressed. I bet the chief or a supervisor knew about it, or cases before yours. Yes, there has to be a 'want to' from management, but you have to start somewhere. internal affairs investigation is not pretty and it is not a procedural form of sweeping it under the carpet.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:09 PM) That's a problem, and the best way to weed that out is City Hall forcing changes from the top down. Which again would be black democrats in a city like Baltimore. i got a better idea, give the country back to the indians and your europeans go back to your country.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) Yeah but if they union wasn't so strong, a cop that's an asshole could be fired for being an asshole. Instead it requires numerous steps and/or serious violations of police conduct to get rid of bad cops. Is that THE reason? No. But it certainly doesn't help. i agree and disagree. i can see the importance of a union, but when a cop is tried or investigated by the internal affairs, that ruling is a lot more severe and harsher penalties comes from that.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:02 PM) As far as I can tell every time I've objected to the characterization of all the protestors, rioters, or African Americans as thugs in this thread I have done so by asking for the same standard and language to be applied to the police. I don't believe either is the case but if the Rioters are uncivilized thugs then so are the people who actually murdered a man. What I object to is that it's ok to call the rioters that and then turn to mush when I demand similar language applied to murderers. And when I am told that it's ok for police to be thugs because after all to are these people I then note that the systemic problem can only be solved by fixing things on the police side. That's the one big difference, that's why the police are supposed to be better. No matter how many community leaders come out and call for peace, when the situation is already primed to explode over years a spark can make it explode. maybe it is me and that i am misreading it. but i see you painting all cops as such, and that is not the case.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) That's the missing part here. Sadly there are people on those streets that WANT the cops to intervene. They WANT their homes and businesses protected. But they won't/can't get it because of the "protestors" in the "uprising." and i agree and there has to be some sort of intervention, even if it harm interventions. take control of the streets again.
  21. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 03:55 PM) Maybe if the police union wasn't so strong, they could get rid of bad cops... wow that came out of nowhere. i may be wrong here, but internal affair investigation can override the protection of the union if the person is found guilty
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) Individual vs individual? Totally agree! Never said otherwise. Abusive cop is worse than simple thief. Definitely. but people opinions of cops is all wrong, and the bad cops make it worse. we the citizens needs a police force, to protect us.
  23. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) Nobody loves White Sox baseball more than myself. That being said, I think it's crazy that this game is going to be played today. I dearly hope that nobody gets hurt or killed today. These games could of easily been played at another time/in another location. I have the cable TV on now and there's still trouble in the city. MLB should postpone this entire series. it has to be played, the powers to be will not let the actions of the rioters take any further control of this situation. the best way, start off with something purely as innocuous as a baseball game. America's #1 past time sport.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) While I agree that police should be held to a higher standard, I have to disagree strongly with your obvious attempts to somehow make them the same as people rioting and looting. Yes, a cop beating a subject and a dude stealing from a broken into store are both violating the law. But the similarity ends there, for better or worse. As far as I can see, you are ready to indict all police for the acts of a few, while vehemently disagreeing with the characterization of looters as the criminals they are. You're doing it by referring to anger as a motivation or reason. If you want to do that, then why not excuse abusive police officers for their anger? How about neither are OK or justified? while i do respect your opinion, i think your response is too vague of an answer to a simple scenario in which i presented.
  25. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) these are 2 totally different situation. the cops beating and killing of a prep, does tarnish the entire police force, and that is not right. the rioters and looters just show african americans doing it, and that is stereo typing the entire race. i still go back to the mother beating the shiiite out of his son. that goes unnoticed. why, b/c it is not promoting some one agenda. good tv. if we lived in the perfect utopia kind of world, then people can see the difference.
