  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 1, 2015 -> 10:56 PM) Shouldn't have shaved the beard. duh.... i finally got it. what an idiot i am.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 1, 2015 -> 09:33 PM) That's not how the law works. you are prob right, i do not know the law. but the point is also the PO should be held at a higher level, b/c they are the enforcers of the law, when needed.
  3. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 1, 2015 -> 08:31 PM) Technically it is subtle since each player moves up one spot in the order. The current top of the order ( namely Eaton) is not getting it done so the change really is about concentrating on getting the top of the order on base. Johnson see's more pitches than Eaton ( for the moment), Eaton is only batting .192, Johnson is batting .271 and viewed as the organizations future lead off hitter so it just makes sense to at least give it a try. Again, that's .192 from the lead off spot! Also, after last nights game, it would seem Eaton is bringing his batting struggles onto the field with him because his head was severely up his ass last night defensively. Hoping that was just a one night show. I think Eaton will be fine, but for now, if the Sox are going to contend they will need better production from the lead off spot so I say shake it up. i like many fans still think of eaton and the future of the sox in the same breath. but, he may be trying too hard. i would also think give Shuck some time there now.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 1, 2015 -> 09:18 PM) Some terrible stuff here: http://mashable.com/2015/05/01/damning-det...om-Tw-main-link Still, I just have a really hard time believing that they'll get hit with murder, especially the second degree murder charge and the manslaughter charge. Both require intent. How are they ever going to prove that? Especially with White. All she did was fail to call for help "knowing" (per Mosbly) that Gray was unconscious and unresponsive. The involuntary manslaughter charges also don't make much sense. I'd argue if there was any killing it's the driver that caused it. Whether or not the other officers knew that he was in serious need of medical attention, and that they're failure to act lead to his death, is a little unclear. I think Goodson should be hit with involuntary manslaughter/manslaughter by vehicle if it can be shown that his driving caused Gray's injuries. Miller, Nero and Rice should be hit with the assault charges and misconduct for the way they arrested him and put him in the van. Porter and White shouldn't have been charged, based on Mosby's press conference anyway. I don't see how those cops' failure to get him medical attention is an assault. The official misconduct is probably legit. False imprisonment....surely there's some kind of immunity from criminal charges for that, right? Wouldn't every wrongful arrest result in criminal charges against the cops? Does that happen? the intent was to commit a crime. period. the end result does not make more or less severe.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) David Cameron ‏@DCameronFG 1h1 hour ago For those who don’t want to click the link, MLB has notified teams that they can now trade drafted players after the next World Series. MLB also told teams that they cannot use just-drafted players as PTBNLs before the end of the World Series, so that loophole is closed. interesting on both counts. i really like to read up more on the second part, of the PTBNL.. excellent find.
  6. QUOTE (Tex @ May 1, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) As I said, I was speaking beyond the one game and trying to build a case that profits are something that teams will, and should, fight over. The point that wasn't brought up, and would fit with your position is the commissioner is the guy that the team owners hired to work this out. I'm guessing the owners want a laissez faire position by the commissioner and the freedom to handle their own matters as it pertains to their team. In other words, all of the other owners accept the other owner's decision and expect the same freedom when it is their turn. The commissioner doesn't have (usually) $750,000 invested in a team. i agree to a point. now add the tv money, it kind of makes things kinda of moot.
  7. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ May 1, 2015 -> 07:46 PM) I know what you're saying and would normally agree. For now, Eaton is not getting it done as a table setter and there aren't many options. Some good could come from Johnson moving into the one hole. 1- Johnson potentially seeing more pitches helps Eaton to see more pitches from the batters box. 2- Johnson's base stealing potential might help Eaton when Johnson gets on base ahead of him. Imagine a pitcher having to pitch into Eaton's teacup size of a strike zone with Micah's speed on first, yikes! 3- Abreu batting behind Eaton might help too. 4- Moving Johnson to lead off could end up boosting Johnson's confidence in himself even higher. I like the potential possibilities but I admit it might not work. With the way the Sox have been struggling, a change is needed at lead off, even if its just a temporary shakeup. you make good point in you points. but MJ to lead, move Eaton down. lets get and consecrate on the top order to get on base and win a game. make subtle changes at first.
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 1, 2015 -> 07:22 PM) Swami says...7 game winning streak starts tonight love it.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 1, 2015 -> 08:25 PM) I've asked, no response yet. They are now down two SPs, that's why Guerra started. But no roster moves yet, no word on Montas' whereabouts, or Recchia's injury. It's a little weird. i am with you, if no one is leaking this, which i find unusual, it will come out when the org wants it out.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) Also, what are the odds of them getting a fair trial? And I am not saying that to side with them. If they are guilty, they deserve prison. the one charge i have a problem with is the involuntary manslaughter charge. it should be, if needed classified as manslaughter. the courts can argue whether it was intentional or not. if the police crossed the line to break the law, and this was the result, they deserve the full count of the law. and more so, b/c they should be held to a higher level, b/c they are cops. ~~~ edit: should there have been a other charge, - conspiracy to commit a felony, falsifying and obstruction in a criminal investigation. i may be wrong on the legal words to use here.
  11. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 1, 2015 -> 06:55 PM) Micah's long term development is way more important than a few more PA for our most patient hitter in April (Jesus, can't believe I just typed that). Putting him in the top spot just puts way too much pressure on him IMO. On that other hand, putting a rookie up top is exactly the sort of move that might be needed to galvanize this bunch. So it will never happen, that's not RV, don't rock the boat blah blah blah. in the beginning of the season i would have agreed and did on this point. but, he is holding his own stat wise, the monkey of being in the majors should be gone. for me, he should be as normal as any other player.
  12. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ May 1, 2015 -> 06:46 PM) He's not playing the best, and I know I should't get upset, but come on! This thread is way too negative. Two months ago everybody was talking about how good Hahn is for locking him up long term. It's 1/8 of the season. Eaton is the type of guy who seems to take things hard. I mean, he shaved his beard last night. Tell me the mental demons are swimming in his head right now. He'll turn the corner and be back to who we know and love. However for the time being, drop him in the order. Bat him 9 for a few games. Throw Michah or Melky up there. This team WILL BE FINE! Yes, its frustrating, and it seems to happen every year, but we are starting slow once again. Cream rises people. Sale, Shark, Quintana will pitch better. Melky, Eaton, Ramirez, LaRoche, etc. will all hit better. BREATHE IN, BREATHE OUT. Watch the Hawks tonight, take your focus away from the Sox, and in two weeks when things are rolling get back into it. athletes are very superstitious. that throwing that out there.
  13. to make this fair, esp from my stand point, how many other players on this team right now, not hitting??? lets also say, how many are not hitting north of lets say 220 avg??? the reason i pointed out Eaton, MJ is hitting, leading him off, can bring a spark to the offense. all it needs is a little spark. the spark was given and them the crap in Balt ruined the momentum.
  14. when a person get detained by the police or arrested, while they do have rights, the police dept should also start looking at the rights of the PO, esp to protect them from bogus claims. they the person getting arrested surrenders some of its rights and this should extend to camera surveillance. the PO getting charge, if you notice, they were kind of vague on the manslaughter indictments. so the discussion will prob end in the culpability of the officers, all of them. i see some of the officers turning states evidences, real fast.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ May 1, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) One thing about this camera business is that we should be careful what we wish for. There are clearly some things to be gained from body cameras or cameras inside of police vans or jail cells. With that said, I'm not eager to sign away my right not to be videotaped. It is not a big leap to go from "we need cameras around police activity" to "we need cameras anywhere crimes may be committed." this is a double edge sword. i can see the gains, esp in helping the police. i just might not be smart enuf to argue the point logically. i would like them to really help out the police.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 1, 2015 -> 04:18 PM) If he's untrustworthy, he's untrustworthy. Doesn't matter if he's supporting the cops (allegedly) two days ago or he's saying they're full of s*** today. very good. but you forgot 1 important thing, does it make good tv???
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 1, 2015 -> 02:07 PM) Baltimore man detained with Freddie Gray: Police are using me to ‘cover their ass’ nice find. if you don't mind, i will play the devil's advocate, how credence can be given to him as a witness?? what was he being arrested for?? can an argument be made that this person is telling the truth or does he have a ax to grind.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 1, 2015 -> 06:00 AM) Yeah but he's shown some decent ABs this year were Conor hasn't shown jack squat. His bat is slower and his defense is just bad. I mean he would have had another error tonight if Ramirez didn't have his back. Beckham isn't perfect but he's serviceable for now. my.... how far we have fallen. i mean the fans. here we were jacked about the season, celebrating b/c the sox had a chance to make the playoff. we thought the team went out and assembled a group of players that can pull it off. now we are willing to accept serviceable performances.
  19. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 1, 2015 -> 06:03 AM) Eaton needs to be benched for a game or two. He's been brutal to watch. yes and if i, who is a fan can see that maybe MJ will be a better leadoff hitter, until Eaton gets his stroke back, what does that tell of RV who should be doing this now!!
  20. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 1, 2015 -> 06:04 AM) Also just give Beckham regular starts at 3rd. That at-least improves the defense and maybe just maybe Beckham has found out how to be a competent bat. that excuse been way over use to give Beckham many chance or the course of his career.

    4/30 games

QUOTE (Dunt @ May 1, 2015 -> 04:53 AM) Davidson with a .859 OPS now, but keep trotting Conor out there btw, the sox FO knew what they had in Conors, during the offseason, if they didn't address it then, who is at fault??? oh yeah, they did address it, they went and signed Gordon Beckham.

    4/30 games

QUOTE (Dunt @ May 1, 2015 -> 04:53 AM) Davidson with a .859 OPS now, but keep trotting Conor out there the sox can't afford to take a chance that this was a hot streak. lets not put him into a position that if he fails, you may ruin his confidence. lets give him several more weeks and address the question again. is he ready to go to the next level??
  23. QUOTE (farmteam @ May 1, 2015 -> 05:43 AM) Depends on the Maryland statutes regarding reckless indifference. I could definitely seeing this being that, based on the generally agreed upon "rough ride" scenario. Just negligence won't cut it for murder. in a normal situation, i would agree, but they are PO's have more inherent responsibilities to protect the prisoner. they gave up that "reckless indifference" when they knowingly crossed that line, the line to break the law.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 1, 2015 -> 03:33 AM) I'm not a Noesi fan even as a No. 5 starter. That rotation does have fierce potential now it's time to take the next step. So far this year the bullpen has been better than the rotation which is dumbfounding. time to take the next step, wow no truer words were said and for me, i am taking it literally. when the team is not performing, when the expectations are not being met, when simple lineup can not be thought out. the time to take that major step is now. this team needs to shaken up. the players need to realize that this is as much as their fault as it is the manager. the manager needs to be fired. i have been a huge RV fan and defender of his on this site, but i have to realize it and a change is needed. a drastic, a wake up kind of msg needs to be sent. if it isn't firing of the manager, then someone pls tell me what else can wake up this team. what other course can be done??? someone convince me this is not RV fault?? the buck stop with the manager.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 1, 2015 -> 05:03 AM) They were flat out intent on giving him a very rough ride but didnt anticipate there was a possibility of actually killing him...negligence, yes, intentional murder, that would be impossible to prove unless officers turned on each other and placed all the blame on one in particular. i don't buy that, negligence vs intentional murder, i hate to get into the semantics of this, but they, the officers took it upon themselves to commit murder, when they walked that line of abuse. now, many, including lawyers will debate this in the upcoming months that it was negligence or unintentional, an accident. yes, however not for this, they, the PO crossed that line when he started on the road of police abuse. they knowingly broke the law of the land and murder was the result. there is no, oops i mean didn't mean that. so let me emphasis this, they knowingly broke the law and this was the result.
