  1. i would have let the season ticket holders come in only.
  2. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) Not playing the games in Baltimore on those days was the right thing to do. Trying to keep the games in front of home fans is within the scope of right things to do. The biggest losers are the players and are you really surprised that the owners's interests trumped those of the workers? you will get answers to both side of this question. for me, it was a bad thing to do, unless requested by the city of Balt to reconsider and close down the game. for me, f*** it. play the game, get a second unit of police and military, make a public announcement of any rioters will be arrested and if necessary by force and take back the streets. let the peaceful protesters be in a area with the ministers and politicians with some meditation group and have the news there to record the whole peaceful talks. yeah it will be good tv to record the other rioters but make that a no fly zone and arrest any who goes there. f*** being the nice people. enuf is enuf.
  3. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 04:43 PM) I guess if they're in an open relationship they might be considered part of the "public." oh, yous guys are on a roll. i was just thinking of that. nice.
  4. on second thought..... i don't give a crap about not enuf money for salary and all that bull crap. they signed up to do a job. if they don't like it, quit. how many people are out of a job and would be extremely happy for a 40k+ a yr. there are security cops making 20k. people are begging for an opportunity to work.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) I think the question people need to ask when judging here is, do you think the citizens of Baltimore have a right to protest over another example of police brutality. And if that is yes, would you forfeit your act of protest if subset of the group were destructive? Also, for Chicago. For as useless and stupid as the riots may be in each literal aspect, Chicago could just as easily be facing this soon. Their police dept. does many of the same things as was listed in Ferguson. They literally had a torture ring. They have poor performers, and the climate is right now that a violent police situation may tear this city apart too. This isn't just a Baltimore problem. So my point is, Chicago needs to get ahead, and not just plan for riots. Like...try to solve these issues. there are many other city that can used as an example of this happening. Hou, DC etc.....

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) They could also send Rodon down for a period of time until this mess clears up. His option is already used for this year so it doesn't matter. good point, and let him get a start in at the minor level.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) We'll see what happens, but if EJ has his confidence back, I think they should strike while the iron is hot. that is truly the other side of this discussion. which many follow in that thought process. i was wrong, i never thought of it that way.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 04:24 PM) Hope the vendors are patrolling the aisle too
  9. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) The sox really don't have issues with the Cubs. At least economically. Don't forget, jerry almost bought the Cubs. wasn't there something about the sCrubs using the sox park for a while until their construction done. when asked, the FO said no they would not be helping the northsiders in this. something to that extent.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) Some random questions in my head for today's game: 1) Will they still do walk-up songs for players? 2) Will they bother with the out of town scoreboard? 3) Will they still play 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame' in the middle of the 7th. 4) Will there be a "Guess the Attendance" game. 5) What about the "Kiss Cam?" if Kane is there, let the players line up.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 04:48 PM) With the need for a 6th starter next week (assuming Sale and Shark drop their suspensions), a lack of off days, and two doubleheaders (the second the day after the all star break), the Sox are almost in a position where they need 6 starters. Maybe not a straight 6-man rotation, but between next Tuesday and July 17, I would mind if they use Johnson in there. Maybe he knocks Noesi out of the rotation. don't get me wrong, but with the big break, this will look as a second start of the season. also, they have Scott Carrol up and to take a spot. the sox will have a pen fully rested.... that is how i am seeing this.
  12. the B's and C's are nothing but a criminal org who is trying to get some fluff piece. if it was them who did the saying.
  13. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Angelos is a cancer to baseball. The games not going to Washington were because he is in a blood feud with the Nationals. Even though he made a boatload of money off the sale of the nationals. Manfred is selig's hand picked successor. He is not weak at all. But he is also the head of a corporation that oversees 30 fran horses with different goals and attitudes. Selig was known to let teams work out issues between themselves and not drop the hammer all the time. Manfred is taking a similar approach. The best part of this issue is that Angelos is losing a ton of money from 6 lost home dates. He will not recoup the losses with the doubleheader or the Tampa "home games". isn't that like the sox and the northsiders??????
  14. 5) What about the "Kiss Cam?" excellent questions, is there a way to twit it to a sports writer and the sox and balt front office??
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) All of that conjecture doesn't really help my opinion that the current MLB Commissioner is weak. good point, but let me also add, all that is coming from Balt and the commish office, may be nothing but lip service.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 04:40 PM) 4 k's for Johnson, thru 3. Throwing strikes again. This is really encouraging. i think it may be too early to bring EJ up, but i would let him continue to build up his confidence. then in july, if needed, and he is still doing well. bring up for a little test run.
  17. i just really look at the title of this thread..... i really like it, the game of silence.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) If you could get either guy for like $2.4 million, I'd do it. That gives you $1 million in savings to take a chance on a guy later. i have a completely different mindset than most of you guys. but depending on who is there i will go with the minimum allotted for that pick, take the bad rap in the PR and if the player signs it, fine, the team saves some money, if not, then next yr, the sox will have 2 - first rounder, one at #9.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) If he is scared to step in and do what is right, the game of baseball is in trouble. it is a heavy mantle to wear, but if he is afraid to make the gusty move, then why did he ever thought he can be good at this??
  20. there is so many ways the sox can go. it all depends on how the top 7 picks goes, then what is the direction the org wants to go and lastly how they want to address it. this draft may not have many superstars but i think they can have nice players if they develop as hoped. also, some new names are starting to make a move, nice timing.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) I'll ask Sanburn about his start and see if he will say anything revealing. not after reading this forum, he will be wise to you.
  22. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 04:50 AM) Ken Rosenthal tweeted today that Baltimore is being disadvantaged by having to play a Double Header later in the year....... I tweeted at him asking how the hell that is a disadvantage to the Orioles, but not also the White Sox. He agreed with me. THAT'S RIGHT, b****. excellent the way did it. put KR right on the hot seat. good one.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) Our new Commish is off to a great start... every commish has its own fiefdom, and i guess the owner of Balti is in his back pocket or the other way around.
  24. the thing that has been bugging since i read this org post is, the owner son is/was a labor lawyer. i would assume he was against big company. so he is now part of that corp world that he hated and still does. he neg contracts and is responsible for their hiring practice. (the buck stop with the owners) so in essence, isn't he contradicting himself and his belief?? esp when he is trying to sign a FA???
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 07:20 AM) (Bob) Nightengale lists the Cardinals, Red Sox, Dodgers and Blue Jays as teams that could desperately use Hamels in their rotation. The Blue Jays wouldn’t seem to have the payroll capacity to add Hamels’ contract, but perhaps with enough money being paid down, something could be worked out. And for what it’s worth, Amaro did mention Toronto GM when making a tongue-in-cheek comment about his stress levels regarding the Hamels negotiations, stating: “I guarantee I’ll get more grey hairs from my daughter [taking her driving test] than any trade talks with Mozeliak, Anthopoulos and Cherington.” Nightengale adds that Amaro had talks regarding Hamels with a team as recently as Tuesday morning, and “some desperation” began to creep into those talks. www.mlbtraderumors.com Since this article was written, Tanaka also went down for the Yankees. phiily asking price still hasn't change.
