QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 07:12 PM) I predict Danks will have a successful season and that's why the Sox will win the division. and that will make me extremely happy.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) The only important question is whether Ventura, Hahn and Cooper are having this exact same conversation internally...and, with the $28 million still invested in Danks, the answer (at this point) has to be no...that they won't revisit the "Danks issue" until at least the middle of May and/or until Rodon lights Charlotte on fire like Katniss Everdeen appearing on the scene. most excellent. but back to the subject, the sox has eaten some salary, Danks was a great soldier and JR repaid him. now, if Danks can not pitch but is getting lit up, i see a disable list visit, or maybe a retirement, due to an injury.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 07:41 PM) The Noesi situation is completely different. Noesi is someone that the Sox, primarily Cooper, had liked for a while. He was only 27. The day after we absolutely destroyed him as a Ranger, we not only claimed him, but immediately put in the rotation (he had been pitching out of the pen). not really, Noesi, was never on the team, then the sox claimed him on waivers on someone advice, and coop worked with him. Lindstrom was with the sox and was claimed after another team waived him. whatever was the problem, was not fixed by the coaches, now he is with the sox minors. if he came up, the sox are screwed, here Lindstrom was able to come back with out competition. all i am saying is there were better options. the sox org will do what they want to do, they do not need to check in with us, the fans.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Carlos Rodon will have a job by June 1 on this team. It is only a matter of whose job it will be. It isn't hard to squint and see John Danks buried in the bullpen as a long man. well that is the point i was heading to, wasn't Rodon sent down to continue to work on his pitches??? wouldn't that be the same as rushing him, before he is fully develop?? i know i am grasping at straw, but who else is there? Beck, Danish, who??
  6. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) According to Baseball Reference, he was in the Mets organization for most of 2008, pitching in 18 games across four levels. Between 2009 and 2013 he played in the Venezuelan Winter League, the independent American Association, and the Mexican League. He was only completely out of baseball in 2014. i am going to hijack this discussion. did you see how the new BR is setup, i mean the roster and position? it sucks.
  7. ok i know i am a weird person with a quirky sense of humor. but i like Caulfield's post. i laugh when he does it and i sometimes catch myself counting the names. it is all fun..... Poor Caulfield he is the abuse puppy today.

i hope this doesn't come to pass, but if Danks is really having a horrible time in the beginning of the season. so Rodon comes up.
  9. i been reading up on some prospect for the draft, i am starting to see another name being mention in a positive way. i not going to say it has been a lot, but his name is being mention. does anyone else know more about him. Greg Pickett hs outfield http://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerp....aspx?ID=353089
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) I fail to understand the rap Caulfield gets for namedropping. One person overstates it then the sheep follow. We are here because of our favorite team which consists of a 40 man roster , numerous players in many levels of minor leagues , plus all coaches and executives on those levels not to mention the possibilities of trades and free agency with 29 others teams who are similarly stocked with players coaches and execs. Most posts are talking about those 1000's of individuals in some way, shape or form. Besides name dropping is an attempt to impress others with a bit of snobbery involved to make yourself appear more important than the next person. Aren't we all mostly talking about the same people usually ? Name dropping isn't just using a lot of different names of players and people we are all here to talk about since we are FANS anyway. It doesn't appear to me that Caulfield does this to impress anyone or feel superior about himself. i like this.... not bad.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) Noesi was cut twice in less than a month before pitching quite effectively for the Sox last year. I think the same thing happened with one of the Orioles' "surprise" breakout hitters in the last 2-3 months....that they picked up on waivers, the name's eluding me right now. good point, but Noesi was not with the team when he was cut, he became better after he came to the team. Lindstrom was with the team and well we all know what happen there.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) I'm not sure what's confusing here, this is simply a minor league depth signing. Can't hurt to have a veteran in AAA that can also serve as an emergency policy in case a big chunk of our major league bullpen falls apart. and that is true, but to simply give it to him, when there were other options. i have no faith in him and even having the possibility of him coming up, too much of a risk.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) If he gave up 1 run in 4 innings last night, this thread doesn't exist. He also was really good the start befor last before he ran out of gas. He will have awful starts. He had so,e really awful starts when he was in his peak years. If he can limit them, he is a fine 4 or 5 starter. I think he will be a little better than last year. If he is terribel, he will be replaced. but the point is, he didn't. this is not a jerk all quick reaction b/c a pitcher had a bad game. this is a continuation of the same story, the same old excuses. even you are saying about him being replace, all this thread was how long does it need to be, the rope.

this is an excellent topic to discuss about Danks without getting nasty. he was and is the best at being a true professional. i am a fan but this yr is the yr to do magic. the playoff should be the final goal, that golden ring that all baseball players strive for, and we as fans enjoy the ride. whether or not the org didn't see this when many fans did, is a problem, but that is to wait for next offseason. the season is upon us and it is going to be a great season. however if certain problems are not corrected or not taken seriously, management is going to screw this season up, no matter how many fans are in the stands. this org really need to constantly keep a professional eye on this team, to quickly make adjustments before it will be too late. screw loyalty

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 02:39 PM) I think its safe to say that we are all worried about Danks. He has become the blackhole of this rotation. Every time I see him pitching these days, he is getting rocked. Its difficult to go from a mid-high velocity guy to a converted junk ball pitcher. Some pitchers can do this successfully, but John is having a very difficult time adjusting. I hope he figures it out. If not, upper management NEEDS to figure something out. I do get it about their hands being tied with his $28 million owed over this year and next, but they can't keep sending him out there if he continues to perform poorly. My realistic prediction: He starts off the season going 1-6 and has a 5.56 ERA. The Sox will blame it on shoulder soreness and he will be put on the disabled list at some point, mid-May. This will be the green light to bring Rodon up for good. My hopeful prediction: He figures it out at the start of the season, proves many wrong. Goes 3-3 and keeps his ERA at a respectable 4.00 which is okay for a 4th/5th starter. At this point, we all know he will not be earning the value of his contract so we will take what we can get from the dude. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) I refuse to take much serious stock in any minor league performance. I think you have to give Danks the month of April to see what he can do. If he isn't a MLB pitcher at that point, then Hahn is gonna have to head up to Jerry's office and beg to waste a good chunk of money. 2 excellent post and i agree.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 12:58 PM) Hope he pitches will enough that the Sox can trade him at the deadline, if they eat a good enough portion of his salary they could get a decent prospect, not Chicago "decent" but like a 10 to 15 system guy or INTL cap space. still have faith in that trade.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) The start before last, Danks was real good until he ran out of gas. Last night was a glorified intrasquad game. Taking anything out of it is crazy. He obviously isn't perfect, but he should be OK at the bottom of the rotation. i hope that you are right about being ok. my thing is, a pro athlete gives his best, and whether it is a glorified game or not, he should have done his best, that therein lie this problem was that his best???
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 11:35 PM) Well, we still won the World Series and there are like 9-10 that haven't, haha. We spent a ton of money from 2006-2013, albeit inefficiently for the most part. We've consistently been outmaneuvered and out-strategized on the pr/marketing front. If only Mike Illitch had been the CEO....we'd have Justin Verlander and Miggy Cabrera on contracts until they reached Social Security eligibility. You're right, I don't think we can overpraise JR and company...they stabilized the ship from the Veeck Era, let's just say that. Got the new stadium built, albeit it was a disappointment and have now rectified that to the best of their ability but original perceptions are still hard to walk back. In all fairness, if the 1994 strike doesn't occur (and that's also 50% at Reinsdorf's doorstep), things probably would have turned out differently...say we won the World Series THAT season. Another couple of things we can point to are the lower draft budgets (going underslot and putting more into MLB ops) and the Dominican Disaster. We've been pretty much shut out of that country for going on ten years now, so it's actually pretty remarkable we've still managed to do "fairly well." We can trot out that...the White Sox didn't have a Top 10 draft pick for XX number of years stat...that we were something like 3-4th-5th over any long period of time behind the Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, Braves over the last 20-30 years in overall win-loss record. Basically, saying we've been good at being decent/mediocre/middling but very rarely breaking out of the pack and having a chance for real post-season success. There was 1959, 1967, 1977, 1983, 1989-1994 (injection of all that exciting talent and new stadium as well), 2000, 2003, 2005, 2008 (doomed when Quentin went down with hamate self-inflicted injury), 2010 (26-5 stretch) and 2012. And that's pretty much been it, other than the 1900-1920 teams. yeah you are right about the bolded, look at how much the team is worth now.... they did great job to increase the value of the team.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 12:44 PM) Sox brass loves their bad veterans. Lindstrom was rarely good, and usually terrible , on his Sox stints No harm as long as he stays in minors. i am not trying to be a smart arse or anything, but really, do you think that will happen?

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) I don't think he may, he definitely is. He is the only one in the rotation that really doesn't bring anything to the table. Sale-Shark-Q are obviously top-of-the-rotation arms. Noesi, while still learning to harness his stuff, has stuff. He can reach the mid-90s, has a decent change-up, etc. Danks, meanwhile, does not have stuff anymore. His terrific change change-up that he used to have is mitigated by the 4-6 MPH he has lost on his fastball. He basically has become Mark Buehrle without the command. And Mark Buehrle without command is a reliever. Unfortunately, the Sox hands are tied. He is due $28 million and he still is better than anything they have in Charlotte except for Rodon who not only needs to work on some aspects of his game in Charlotte, but also has a service-time issue. We are stuck with Danks for at least a month in the rotation. If both him and Noesi suck, we have big problems. If just Danks sucks, then I do not think the Sox will hesitate to swap Rodon and Danks. i totally agree with everything you said. i would keep him on a short, tight lease. this yr is not the yr to fvvck around with loyalty, but to put the best up there to make the playoff. this all goes back to my big arse rant of not being prepare, underestimating the team and that is for what ....... well i won't finish my point. lets wait a few games and i can talk when i see results in a game situation.
  21. i just listen to an album from a tv actor, made in the 60's. thing is this was not a actor making a horrible album. this actor is a classical train musician and singer. the album is a jazz infuse, the best song is a song being copied by others it is call "the edge" the actor is David McCallum, also known as Ducky from ncis.
  22. i think most here already knows not to get overly excited about this signing. it is confusing move but all i have to do is hope. i know i am not going to put too much faith in Lindstrom, remember he was cut from another team, the sox gave him a offer on a silver plate. i just have to hope in the best.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 02:03 AM) At minimum, give him 6 starts. Sale, Shark, and Q are the three we're relying on. Anything before May 10th is a panic move. edit--one caveat...unless his velocity is so low that a DL stint is needed. i agree with what you are proposing. KyYlE23 brought up a good point, as much as we, the fans hate to admit it, he may be a problem in the rotation. he is a pro, so being motivated to pitch his best should always be on his mind, even if he was working on things during these spring games. but to use others performances to make a point, nah, if he got lit up, that is a problem. again, he is a professional and should pitch his best. btw, i am a Danks fan and it is hard to keep rooting for him.
