  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2015 -> 01:02 AM) There were the same amount of top guys then. But by all means, ignore how the approach at the plate has changed, which probably is all about money. They don't ding you in arb for high strikeouts. If they did, strikeouts would be way down. The overall k rate has increased 50% the last 40 years. It is higher now than before the DH. 11 pitchers struck out 180 or more last year. is that a testament to better pitcher and pitching instead to the hitters not be as good. i would like to know how many hitters has hit 40 or more hrs, 30 or more hrs and 20 or more hrs. in each of the decades since 1990.
  2. QUOTE (seanjon21 @ Feb 7, 2015 -> 06:55 PM) Going onto the 5th inning in semi final , Marin working 3 hit shut out against Dominican Republic. Fastball running 96 MPH, cutter, change up and slider are flat nasty. Mexico up 4-0 let me get this right, his fast ball in now at 96, right???
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 7, 2015 -> 09:11 PM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=marin-001ter can a game like today put him on peoples map
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 7, 2015 -> 06:23 PM) Definitely rooting for Hawkins, but I don't think anyone will be surprised if AA baseball is too much for him to handle. i most definitely would, it means that they wasted another draft pick, A. the sox didn't develop him in the minors properly B. if not, the sox didn't draft well. add another name to the long line of sox wasted draft picks.
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 6, 2015 -> 10:28 PM) I have been very vocal with my doubt when it comes to Courtney Hawkins. when i came back to this site, many, and i mean many had doubt, had written him off. i kept on saying, he may rebound, he still have time, he is young. well that statement is still true. he is only 21, i would like to see how he does after this season. then many can see, even the fans, if he will ever make it or not.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 6, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) I think a lot has to go right for Hawkins to be anywhere near the player many of thought he had a chance to be coming into 2013. I doubt he is any better than Viciedo offensively. Probably much worse. lets see after this season. i can only gage the comparison based on the age and when DV made it to the majors.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 6, 2015 -> 07:34 AM) Double-A will present a greater challenge for the 21-year-old outfielder — at that level, “you better know your swing,” Capra said — but if he’s able to pass the tests in Birmingham, it’ll be at that point he can finally start thinking about making his major league debut. “They have a plan,” Hawkins said. “Whatever their plan is, we gotta go along with it. We gotta buy into it. We gotta trust into it and go with it.” Not sure we should be in love with that quote...but being optimistic/hopeful. www.csnchicago.com that quote to me. is a statement of reinforcement. it is like "i trust in what the sox have in stored for me and i am letting anyone and everyone i believe in what they want me to do". pretty much like a loyal soldier.
  8. QUOTE (Boogua @ Feb 7, 2015 -> 05:41 AM) Lebron is very clearly the second best player I've seen in my lifetime. I think talent-wise you're correct, but Bosh and more-so Wade had more of an idea how to win championships and play defense. I would be willing to bet the cavs don't win it all this year mostly because things don't fit for Lebron. He is immensely talented, but he needs quite a bit of scoring talent and defense around him. Imagine if he would have actually went to Golden State... look at the bulls of the MJ era. MJ needed Scottie to stretch the defense and give the bull another scoring option. they both knew they needed a power forward to help the center to guard the big, scoring power forward of the league, so at the last go around they got Rodman. in the basketball history, there are a 1 in a era superstar. the mantle of super stardom has passed from Kobe to Lefron. i wonder, has anyone identified the next superstar in the making????

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 7, 2015 -> 04:33 AM) So I have now watched Frozen for the 289th time. Decent movie I suppose but I was satisfied after the second time for sure. Good lord I wish my kids would pick a new movie. the tale of trails and tribulation that parents goes thru for the amusement of their children's visual pleasure. life is so good when parents have happy children's.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 7, 2015 -> 12:39 AM) A few things from the NBA I'll throw out there. 1. The Bulls traded two solid 1st round draft slots for Doug McD, and they are considering sending him to the D-League. No words. 2. Doc Rivers has finally lost it. First, he traded way too much to get his kid off the end of the Celtics' bench, and now he's STARTING his son tonight. 3. Taj can go, but he's hardly the issue. Derrick Rose is probably the Bulls' biggest problem right now, and unless he stops shooting 3s they're toast 4. Kevin Martin is back, healthy, and kicking ass. He's also readily available for trade and an expiring contract. He also gets to the line a ton, has great size, and would be a great second scorer for the Bulls (and allow them to move Jimmy to SF). 5. Nikola Vucevic is better than Dwight Howard, and it isn't even close. Great piece of Orlando's Dwight trade - what a monster. ref #1 i was totally surprise at that, i love to make trades and i was ok with the idea of trading, but i was wanting Zach Levine and as PG. i was reading that it was mostly a salary cap move than picking McD. the bulls were trying to make as much room for a FA that they couldn't get. oh well,. i like the potential of this yrs draft. #3 i think Taj is a issue, the bench really doesn't have that sparkplug to ignite the team. also i think as much as Rose was the man before his last knee surgery, i think it took a toll on him. Butler thrive when he is the main man. Rose, maybe i am being too hard, i remember 2 weeks ago, i was corrected when i wrote, he is not like he used to be. #4 who would you trade?? #5 Vucevic, to me, he came out of nowhere to show what he is made out of. a total surprise.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 6, 2015 -> 09:40 PM) His efficiency is at all time high's. I think we need more of Taj and his attitude and toughness and not less, but that is me. This whole team has Pau and Rose's persona instead of Taj and Noah's persona, imo. This is what Laker fans hated about Pau for years (so it isn't new). Pau is extremely skilled offensively but he has a very "meh" attitude and is horrendous defensively. Butler and Rose also seem to have massive problems playing together. I still think the biggest issue on our team is Rose. We need a point guard to play with him or something cause he is just brutal and our offense is going to have some really brad stretches with the way he executes and passes right now. Its just ugly. Thankfully his effort and energy levels are increasing. a very interesting analysis of this situation. i think it is time to move Taj and Snell. do you think Pau can play SF b/c i see that he is getting beaten. Butler and Rose. i notice that, what you wrote some time ago, but i thought it was me. so who would you like to play over the other. Rose or Butler.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 03:02 AM) I keep thinking Thibs is going to get canned at the ASB with Thibs, and if he is a strict coach, i will give example of another situation. now i am saying this, and i am a huge Thibs' backer. Mike Keenan of the old blackhawks team, he was a very strict coach who also relied on his vets, but if the young players can play a consistent game, he will play them. he rode his players hard, almost to a mutiny. now, he got results, his team played a very discipline kind of game and were least penalized. but his act worn out and that is why he was always getting fired. his act wears out. he was the only coach to insist that the all stars played a hard hitting checking game, this i mention last week. while Thibs's is a great coach, i wonder if he experiencing the same problem as Keenan.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 06:50 PM) Between Cueto, Porcello, Greinke (most likely), Zimmermann, Fister, Price, Latos and Samardzija I feel there are too many arms available and not enough teams willing to throw huge bucks around now. i feel like Samardzija (knowing who else is out there next winter) may be wise to take a good extension from us now. my major biitch is next winter is too late.
  14. i can always say this, b/c it is the truth. i hate, i despise that pos team in the northside, but even i can admit, that this is the 2 time in 20 yrs that they have a great minor system that i am envious of. the problem with i am saying is, it is the truth.
  15. i rather be insane, drinking my sox kool aid and cheering on the sox, instead of constantly b****ing at sox management for not doing enuf...... then again, i still might b**** about that.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) Rather disappointed in A Most Violent Year. It has his moments, Isaac reminds me of a young De Niro and Chastain is solid but found the plot and pay offs rather lackluster. i know, i d/l it and i was bored.... i mean really bored. i really like Chastani and became a fan of hers since zero dark thirty. Isaac has a career. but as you said, the plot sucked. btw it appears as a lot of movies are now coming on the internet b/c of some kind on vote coming up in 21 days. the hackers are putting new release movies. but i can't or won't mention the free site b/c i do not want this site to get in trouble.
  17. another interesting snippet. hope you don't mind http://www.baseballfactory.com/AllAmerica/...l/Yency-Almonte
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 01:12 AM) The reality is this late in the game, teams don't have the room in their budgets than they did at the beginning of the off-season, which is why Shields might ultimately not have the suitors he once did. $ available today aren't the same so the market has likely shrunk for Shields vs. grow. It could open back up if he decides he is going to go more short-term in nature, etc. if the sox enters a bid, no matter what the yrs or money is, i think several teams will enter a counter bid, esp det. they will not let the sox get him. not if they have playoff ambitions.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 07:41 PM) But those other arms and bats are going to suck, and they are going to suck so bad they won't even be good situationally. There's already a bunch of s***ty lefty relievers on rosters because there aren't enough good ones to go around. Expanding the rosters doesn't help that problem. a good point, actually a great point. the point is, while the teams may explore expanding, they may not have the players to fit right away, but they may in the future.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) I can still see the Tigers throwing too much money at him. After losing Scherzer, they need another starter, badly. all it will take is one team to start the bidding. yeah, i wouldn't mind kicking the tires so to speak, but agents, regardless which, will try to get multi teams involve. good business. not signing him b/c some may want to sign Jeff S, well he wants to test the FA market. it is not the fault of the sox not to improve, even if it means not signing Jeff S. i would go 2 yrs, 26 per
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) Advanced stats don't magically make a #6 starter better. If anything, advanced stats are telling us that the 24th and 25th guys on the roster are a lot worse than we thought they were. no one is saying that using the advance stats, will not magically make a starter better, actually this is pretty silly to even suggest this snide comment. c'mon lets use some intelligence here. the advance stats, which i know you which i am talking about, b/c you have been in discussions in other threads, those stats can be use to situational hitting or pitching. it will leave coaches and managers another arm, another bat, oh well.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) Every time I see a Jurassic World trailer, my excitement goes down by a factor of 10. The stupidity of the entire premise (we bred yet another unstoppable killing machine even though we did the same thing before) is going to be too difficult to ignore. they are just regurgitating the same theme like idea. reminds me of, how many friday the 13, halloweens, etc.... has been made. lack of creative ideas.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 05:11 PM) I think we're getting to the point where MLB should start exploring sites for expansion. Tropicana Field is not a good spot for a baseball team, but I don't think the Rays should be moving at this point because, as I recall, the Rays have some of the best local TV ratings in the league. People really do like the team, but I seem to remember that it's a bear for most people to get there and then get back home. baseball is a marriage of local media and the city. but the city has been screwing TPA and owners. didn't they restrict them last summer on possible new sites????
  24. QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 07:35 PM) yeah, yeah, yeah, you guys are the best. I don't know why, but Danks kinda reminds me of Joel Horlen, remember him? thanks, douglas ooo a little snarky.
  25. if i remember correctly, it was either Jeff S and / or his camp that stated on whether he would be signing a extension. i will paraphrase what was said. why would I / jeff sign an extension, he is a big union backer and the union went to great lengths for him to test the market out. he / I will go do fa. i am sure, these guys on this site are smarter at this than i, would be able to find the link.
