    Food, Food and more Food

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) I don't know if this thread if just about pizza, but I have not found one Rick Bayless recipe yet that wasn't delicious. it is about great food, and i happy to be a homer of some sorts, so i will say all great CHI food.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) Webb He might be on the outside looking in and will have to fight for a spot. Crazy considering what we thought of him a year ago. i am still high on him. it wasn't a good yr with the expectations thrust on him, but i still think he was rush. he still might develop into a matt thornton type of pitcher. his stuff is still great.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) LDF, the sausage and cheese may not be the same down there, but you really can do it yourself with the stuff you have down there, and make it better than the local places, I promise. i am total agreement. here. believe you me.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) I'm going to New Orleans in a few weeks, I know you can get gator but do you really see snake on menus down there? not really unless you come in during the snake festival and only in rural LA. but they do have this Swamp Rat if you are really game. but not in the fancy dining places.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) Eh, I see that point but I think the other point is just as valid. That sounds more like protecting the teams than protecting the players, to be frank. And if you look at college ball, plenty of guys who weren't drafted or aren't draft eligible throw a ton during the CWS. Part of it is the way the tourney is structured with the format almost ensuring that you have to go to your horses more often (just like you see ace pitchers used more often and on shorter rest during the playoffs). makes a valid point which i will say the same thing as i have in the past. remembering Rodon this past CWS and his workload, there has to be a mandatory pitch count for college pitchers, regardless if they are draft eligible or not.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 03:52 AM) Plethora? Would you say we have a plethora of men? Do you even know what a plethora is? (said in my best mexican accent from the Three Amigos) yous guys are killing me. (said in my best joe pesci in goodfellas accent)
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) Opening ceremonies today at 4PM, pretty sure Comcast is airing it not being in chi, i am dieing here. i was planning on flying up there, but the mardi gras season is upon us. i wish it was on tv down here. even a pay for preview one. to all who is going, have a hell of a time.... remember sox in 2015.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 03:10 AM) The fact that Rizzo has struggled in the past makes me think it's more likely he keeps up his numbers. He is young, he came up and struggled, had to adjust and learn. Where as Abreu came into the league as an unknown, killed it, but now teams will know him better and he will have to make adjustments. Combine that with what we have seen from Puig & Cespedes, I would be shocked if Abreu puts up better numbers in 2015. (He was so good in 2014, that's not necessarily a bad thing) you make a good point. but based on Puig and Cespedes, i am thinking the other way. i think he will be even a better hitter, he will make the adjustments and i am more that positive that he will work hard at it. that was his rep, working and refusing to not to learn. but dang, Rizzo is a nice prospect.
  9. if someone can asked a couple of questions for me. 1. how come the sox haven't gone after some of the Cubans that were just recently sign?? are they planning to going after anymore in the immediate future?? Yoan Lopez could be a 1 rnd potential and all that was needed was a signing bonus. there are others who can help the system or the the team 2. are the sox going to sign or obtain any more key players to help the team go further in the playoff??
  10. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 06:20 AM) You shut your whore mouth. can't we all be friends..... seriously, you are one of the better posters. not everyone will agree in 100% of all post and replies. peace.
  11. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 01:44 AM) I think out of all the NRI's announced, I'm most excited about Soto. The Sox signing him makes me feel like the organization is really looking to challenge the catcher position. I think it also all but guarantees that Nieto starts in the minors. Flowers, Brantly, Kottaras, Soto, and Nieto. Thats A LOT of guys competing for the backup catcher position (not including Flowers). Any single one of them could be serviceable IMO. Not great... but serviceable. It's nice to see Crain given another shot too. the idea, for me is get as many bodies in spring training and again, maybe pull a diamond out, or in this case get a serviceable player. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 11:37 PM) Besides the obvious, I'm excited to see how Sanburn does. well it will do 1 thing, let all the fans know what kind of prospect he is and what kind of prospect he can be. in other words a serviceable player or a slug.
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 05:13 AM) OG Hahn has done it without crippling us via sending out talent nor has he went for any ridiculous contracts. The Robo deal could be construed as out there I suppose, but it certainly fills a huge need. i am in agreement. the Robo deal was needed, i am in the thinking of the contract and wouldn't someone else have been a cheaper option. saving the money and maybe getting another piece. either way, since they, the sox brass in not doing that, then getting Robo was the best rt. hindsight .... you know what they say about that.
  13. i really can see if someone would complain about this thread being all over the place. now it is middle century american history. nice conversation. all.
  14. this sox systems needs all the players / prospects they can get their hands on. this system is thin and is in need of more players, players who can be backup and since they are young, be groomed to take the spot over. maybe not next yr, but maybe the yr after or so.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 01:46 AM) He could. He also could hit .180. He is the starter until someone beats him out, but I don't think it is a lock he is better than Soto in 2015, and obviously Soto isn't all that great. Steamer projects Flowers at 0.8 WAR. Soto at 1.1. i can deal with 1 or 2 position being weak, hitting wise, if they provide a vital part to that position. that is defense, esp if flowers provide good defense and calls a good game, then i can deal with his lack of hitting. on a side note, wasn't part of his improvement was b/c of he needed glasses or something like that??

    Food, Food and more Food

oh i will say this in my rant on food. i love food, good tasting food. my problem is i have too much taste buds and i taste spices and flavor are way enhanced. this is a medical problem so i am very picky. live and growing up in chi..... well i was spoiled with great food. period. the pizza is the best, and i ate the so call good pizza from NYC and it does not compare. chi pizza come with pizza sauce and lots of it. the fennel seeds in the sausage is just right. the bottom line, chi has the best food available, and i hate it. b/c trying other places idea of food sucks.
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 11:11 PM) You don't think that all the land that became Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Nevada, and California changed the course of both countries? It was the second largest land acquisition in US history. Shortly after the annexation gold was found on the former Mexico land. How much wealth changed hands because God meant for the US to extend from sea to shining sea. are you saying the texas annexation was b/c of gold, what about the mexican cession.
  18. QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 11:14 PM) Exactly. The greatest warring nations were despised in their day as well. We've reached beyond what anyone else has managed. It is hard for anyone to match the power of dropping an atomic bomb. the thing is, and this is talking about history, we the US gave back all the land that the army claimed during WW1 and WW2. why, b/c we, the US thought that was the right thing to do. now if the US did what russia, or french did, and even england, who could stop the US from doing it???
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 12:03 AM) Hope a fan asks this question at SoxFest he would be great for a nice callup right after the all star game. start him slowly and when the sox make the wild card or playoff, he might have the freshest arm in the rotation.
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 23, 2015 -> 12:00 AM) I think if you told a Soxtalk poster on the last day of the 2014 season the moves that we would make up to now, they wouldn't believe it for a number of reasons. We may not win enough games to contend this year, but I have an extremely hard time faulting Rick for what he's done thus far. i am in total agreement. with all my b****ing and spouting off and doing a total rebuild now, b/c this is the time to do so, i would not have believe it was done. some of the moves were questionable, but now, if JR will allow Hahn to finish the job he stated.
  21. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 11:27 PM) Gotta like it. A healthy Crain would be one heck of a set up guy for Robertson. Hahn and co are getting it done this winter. Lots to be excited about. i am happy and hope for the best. but come on, he is at best another reclamation project. this is the sox fans hoping and getting excited and forgetting we still have holes to fix. i am not going to allow myself to be diverted with good intentions. good feeling moves. not this time around.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 10:12 PM) He barely outperformed Danks/Noesi last year, in no small part because Noesi didn't start the year with us, and in 2013 he put up a 5.73 ERA while pitching for the Giants in one of the best pitchers parks in the league. I don't see why you'd spend money on him and think you're in any better of a position than you are with Danks/Noesi. i did not see it that way. thanks for bringing this up and letting me look at it a different way.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) Well likely need Carroll as a spot starter this year so that's good he's back. 4th OF options are a little disappointing. ahhhh.....
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) So the Sox will have 6 catchers in camp to start ST: Flowers, Nieto, Kottaras, Brantly, Soto, Smith. Interesting collection. Fun fact: The White Sox have a pitching prospect who actually was a hot dog vendor at Comiskey/The Cell in their youth, and his mother worked in the park for some time as well. His name is Mike Recchia, Crestwood native. that is a fun fact.... i hope he makes it for that reason. thanks.
  25. here is a simple player to get, Ryan Vogelsong sp threw 180 + innings. and he will take a 1 yr contract. 2 world series rings.
