  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) I think a lot of that money possibly just went to Bonifacio, unfortunately. I agree with the concept, though. If it was up to me, we'd only be betting on ONE of Danks/Noesi to break in the rotation next year. I think the Sox see Danks as a lock, though, and assume that Rodon will put pressure on Noesi eventually. The thing no one ever brings up, though, is that SOMEONE is likely to get injured. the thing is the sox will not bring up Rodon up prior to the time to get that extra yr value. this is my opinion. so here is the question, when is that date??? until then i preach have other option available and lets not go into the season hoping and assuming.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 05:31 PM) There have been other suggestions that the Cubs basically have him locked up too. If anyone hasn't seen video of him, it's incredible how similar his swing is to his father's. the sox rep has always been to be above board, maybe it was more emphasized with the wilder corruptions. either way, the way this team has almost turned itself around, and with the CBA coming to a renewal / redo, the sox may overspend.. this will be a fast way to rebuild the farm system. just like the yanks did last yr and the sCrubs did a couple of yrs ago. JR in all honesty will not do that. but it will be nice
  3. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 05:24 PM) Same here. Moved out of state in 2011. First time I've truly wished I was back to go to a Sox game. Will have to plan a trip this summer for sure. i was planning on going to soxfest, but our mardi gras ball is then.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) esse Sanchez ‏@JesseSanchezMLB 1h1 hour ago Teenager Vlad Guerrero Jr. won't be able to sign until July 2 but sources say Angels, Mets & Blue Jays have already shown serious interest. excatly and there are a couple more of key players that can be sign around that time. the CBA will not come up for renewal and many teams have until Dec of 2016 to take advantage of the loop hole. that is why i am dieing to know when Moan and Jose Fernadez gets posted, before or after.

    2015 Books Thread

the FR is not just 1 book and it describe the situation. it was mostly of economic and the inbreeding of the aristocracy at the time. read on the mentality of the King of the time, the queen coming from the other country, the little safe haven she made for herself, the politic of the time. start at 20 yrs before the FR and how it lead up to it. the wanton abuse of the people, the lowly serf. the hunger and the reigning monarch not knowing, not having the cabinet members to deal with it, the continue expense of the noble houses. most important how the cabinet members kept it hidden from the king. then the strife of the poor and the breaking point. here is the main point, how there was no government and how later the military came to power b/c of the void. many different books explains it all.
  6. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 04:57 PM) Ok I don;t know enough about pitching mechanics, and the effects that his injury had on his mechanics as well as his abilities and talent. But here's some thoughts to chew on. is It possible that he can have a real good year this year?. A professional should always be able to play to his maximum potential no matter who he plays for or with. But lets face it, (NO MATTER WHAT SPORT) when you play with some serious competitive and winning guys, it does something inside you that really "UPS" your game. He has had plenty of time to heal, and a season to learn how to "pitch" differently than he used to before his injury. Now that he has 3 key pitchers ahead of him, and a team that will really compete, could that possibly make him "that much better" and worth "some" of his money? He did have some good spurts last year (I believe it was around the July area) . Its a poor analogy..... but an example is Most good starting rotations seem to get better as they feed off of one another's success. If our top 3 have real good years, could Danks FEED off of that and make him the pitcher that we hope for? If he does, then we have Duke and Rodon in the pen in the middle of the season, for lefties. Rodon gets to grow and evolve in the process, and if Danks "does" have a good year, then makes it a lot better chance to trade him next year (and the whole 15 mil) for something worthwhile when Rodon becomes a starter for 2016.At the same time. His 15 mil off the books would free up at least "SOME" money for Samardzija (at last for the first year anyway) i have been a minority on this subject. i say lets keep him. i saw improvement in him as the season went on. the problem a lot of people have is his salary. the problem there, JR owes him and his family a lot. they switch agents b/c of the bad blood between the sox and his other agent. also he sign a team friendly contract. JR pays back loyalty, so he is with the sox until his contract expires. another thing i see in him a person who maybe can become a coach in the future.
  7. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 04:51 PM) Perfect signing. Backup at CF, 3B, and even 2B. Wonder if this leaves the door open for Dayan to stay with the team though? He could be the LF/RF/DH platoon and backup with Bonifacio, Sanchez(if Micah wins the job), Viciedo, and Shuck/Danks as the bench? I'm sure most would complain if he's still on the team but it wouldn't bother me at all. actually i am of the thinking that he can provide a safety value for any injury in the outfielders. but the main problem with that, he will be a 4+ mil a yr as Emilio.
  8. i am still going to preach the concept, if the cost of getting this or any pitcher is NOT cost prohibitive, i would get a 1yr or 2 yr rental, a SP who will walk, give him a QO and hopefully redeem a draft pick. lets look at the Marlins, they have won 2 world series and immediately dismantle the team. i am not saying completely dismantle the team but to let them walk with a QO, to help the farm system.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Both. If Bonifacio is playing every day, he doesn't hit RH much at all. The one advantage he has over Beckham is his legs. His versatility is what makes him more valuable. Emilio as an every day 2B would be below average IMO, although he has had a big year before. not a bad opinion. i would like to see another yr of Emilio before i really catalog him as this so so kind of player. thanks
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) Yeah, sometimes there's a lag time between a signing being made public and a physical to make it official. Could be days, and they're obviously trying to move Viciedo for anything. as most of the market, teams, who could have used DV is drying up, i still like the possible TPA tade. they really could use a better dh.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Probably an overpay so hopefully we can afford it. I don't think Danks' or Viciedo's roster spots are gone yet so I don't see any time for him in the OF, so I think his greatest value will be insurance at third and second. Looks like he's much better hitting righty, which may not actually be a bad thing. i would also think of a possible lead off if injury to Eaton
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) If Bonifacio was signed to be the regular 2B, he would be a downgrade from Gordon Beckham. defensively or offensively????
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Looking at the makeup of the team, it's too bad Davidson isn't good enough to be a straight platoon with Gillaspie at 3B. i just don't know about that. i think the sox is going to do a wait and see with him come spring.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Either Sanchez or Johnson, yes. We didn't see the potential versatility that Semien offered but I think he would have played this role with the Sox. Now they have a guy who does this but better and he provides more versatility and better options late in games as well. good point. i too think the sox should start with Sanchez at 2nd and let him to continue to develop. have Emilio at the super sub and starter if needed. now what to do with DV
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) This is a very good addition to the bench. just for discussion sake, so you think the sox will stick with Sanchez and use Bonifacio as a super bench kind of a player.
  16. ummm i wonder what the salary numbers look like at this signing???
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) Kevan Smith is our latest player guest-writer on FutureSox. He's actually going to be writing a pair of posts for us. This first one is about an aspect of minor league life that is very important to players, but I doubt many of you have given it much thought - living arrangements, and more specifically host families. Give it a read. We're working with Kevan on a second piece on a different topic, to come out in the coming weeks. a really nice article, gives a little taste of a prospect in living conditions and how they look at it from a ball players point of view. thank
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Bonifacio is the perfect bench player. He can play 6 positions, makes decent contact and can steal bases. Really makes it easy to pinch hit for players when you have a guy that can fill in virtually anywhere on the field. I'm not going to quibble about an extra million. This is a great pickup. Players like him are super valuable in October. Edit: The club option makes it even better. If the Sox pick it up it means he did a good job in '15. here is a thought, does anyone think he may be slotted for a starting 2b???
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) I hope you say this tongue in cheek. If people here can see that Bonifacio was a good fit it's possible Hahn could too . He still might read Soxtalk or have some intern do it but it's not to get ideas. either way, the real knowledgeable posters have a very good grasp of baseball, the only difference is the sox brass has the network to get even better knowledge and knows what the owner has in mind for salary. so if Mr Hahn does read this board, read this. ok you got a great missing piece. now get the sox a SP.
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) I was thinking the same thing. I had seen absolutely zero connection between the Sox and Bonifacio outside of people here wanting to sign him. .959 OPS vs LHP in 2014, .721 for career. Even if he is closer to his career numbers than 2014 numbers, he's a solid platoon for Gillaspie at 3B. Appears to be decent defensively at 3B. and he can manned any position outside cat if he is needed b/c of injury.
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) It's now official, Rick Hahn reads Soxtalk. YES!!!! yeah, he is prob Greg
  22. QUOTE (Downtown518 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) @jonmorosi 2m2 minutes ago Source: #WhiteSox and Emilio Bonifacio agree to one year, $4 million contract. Mr Hahn is a baseball demi-god. that is a great sign. too freaking bad i don't live in chi, i would be getting a pack of tickets for next season. sox in "15
  23. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 06:20 AM) Here's the Sox part: thanks.
  24. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 01:50 AM) I know, unrealistic. Throw in Abreu. Jokes aside I don't think depth at SS is a pressing issue. He's an interesting name based on how much the Dodgers invested in him (and the aforementioned Melton pronunciation) but I think there are more immediate needs than what he can potentially provide. if you are talking about the player and playing with the sox, yeah, i mention that, but the salary is a little too much, it seems.
  25. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 08:25 AM) If the situation presents itself where the Sox could upgrade over 3B, you don't think twice about it, you take the upgrade. That's my point. I regard 3B, 2B, and C all in the same way. If an opportunity presents itself to get better there, take it. We can't depend on a playoff spot with 3-4 holes in our lineup, depending how Avisail does in a full year. the sox need a good bench get another SP / 1 yr rental.
