  1. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 12:04 AM) Right, but he's just not a slamdunk player that would make me not care about the pick. He is almost Alex Rios-like in his sporadically good and bad seasons. Let me preface this by saying I know WAR is not the end all be all stat, but it's a good quick reference to a player's season, so check this out for his recent years..... 2009: 1.4 WAR (okay year) 2010: -1.4 WAR (epic bad season) 2011: 3.7 WAR (Very good, all-star caliber season) 2012: 4.5 WAR (Awesome season, all-star caliber again) 2013: -0.9 WAR (Only played 88 games, but was awful) 2014: 2.6 WAR (Decent above average year) That's 6 years worth of "What will he be next year"??? Giving him a long term deal is very scary, because his career is like a box of chocolates, you never know which one you're gunna get. I hate to say this, but nothing is life is a guarantee. every yr players are worry about injury, a bad hitting streak, dang it I forgot the rest of the quotes I was going to use. I am sure you can get my drift.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:46 PM) I GUESS that's where a "professional" veteran leader in Ethier could come in. If you did have Cabrera, 3 months from now the line-up COULD look like this. Eaton M.Cabrera Abreu Ethier (Danks contract swap) rotating DH A.Garcia Gillaspie A.Ramirez T.Flowers M.Johnson 1-7, that line-up has a lot of threats, compared to the last couple of seasons. Pairing Eaton and Johnson at the bottom of the order leads to some exciting "small ball" possibilities as well when you need to score a single run against the Royals or Indians in the late innings, for example. You've also added two veteran bats in Ethier and M.Cabrera (couldn't figure any way to also add Morse and split the AB's). And I'm not 100% convinced at all that Avisail is ready to hit behind Abreu. But we'll see. What we're MORE likely to see IMO in terms of spending/financial commitment/s. Eaton Gillaspie Abreu Ethier A.Garcia Rasmus Ramirez Flowers M.Johnson With Saunders as the 4th OF. Of course, you'd be expecting a new starter, Noesi and maybe Bassit to hold the back end of the rotation together and keep them within shouting distance of the division leaders for 6-8 weeks until Rodon joined the squad. (And there would be a tremendous amount of pressure on Rodon upon arrival, not unlike Daniel Hudson in 2010). I would switch the 2 bolded for the reason Garcai to get adjusted to the big league. then switch them back.
  3. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:56 PM) Signing Melky worries me for 2 reasons that have nothing to do with him on the field. I wouldn't want to go more than 4 yrs/$52M on him. I wouldn't want to lose our 2nd RD pick on him. Our 2nd RD picks recently have been solid picks (Danish, Adams). I'm not saying I would rule him out because of losing a 2nd RD pick, it just makes me not dying to sign him. you got a point, but getting a nice player may have to outweigh the cost of loosing a pick.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:38 PM) Robin would not hit Cabrera directly behind Eaton because Robin wants to break up the lefties in his lineup. You'd almost certainly see some version of Eaton, followed by Alexei/Semien (or maybe even Garcia?), Cabrera, Abreu. Adam, Mich and for this discussion Conor are all lefty. I believe someone posted the idea of Mich batting #1, if he makes it out of spring training. then the sox has Adam at #2 and then Jose at #3. that is still a left, left and a right handed hitting order. so lets say do not use Mich as #1 but Adam and in my book Conor as #2. again hoping that Conor comes out swinging like last yr. that is still a LH, LH and RH lineup. using maybe Marcus as a #2 hitter, I rather not put the pressure on him again. he may go back into a tail spin. some how the line up is going to get 2 of the same hands hitters. in top of the lineup, or 2 of the same hand in the middle.

    2014 Films Thread

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 12:32 AM) I think the Hobbit is a great example of that. I feel like the Harry Potters were good and it worked for them and Lord of the Rings being stretched was fine, however, the Hobbit being stretched has led to the movies being more boring then they should be (as they should be excellent). I will see MockingJay though. Wife and I love the Hunger Game movies. We don't watch many movies anymore, but that is one we will definitely catch. that is if the books and the story is really long. then I can see if they stretch it. but like twilite the last book, into 2 movies..... they wanted the money. LOTR and the Hobbit are long books and need to be explain totally in the movie, if not, you will miss things. however I will say this, the Hobbit into 3 movies, uhhhh they wanted the money. the Hobbit first installment made all its money for all 3 movies, salary and production cost, and it still made a tidy profit. the second book was gravy and the 3rd, wow, the profit margin is going to be a knockout. all 3 movies in my opinion are and will be really good. now Mockingjay. I was totally disappointed in the book. I am not going to see that #1 but may see #2, then maybe not. I really hated the last book.
  6. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:56 PM) Fairly certain Braulio Ortiz was #20. yep I just remembered when I saw the name. Ortiz is another big power arm pitcher. damn the future is looking nice.... 2016 many thanks.
  7. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:44 PM) Danish profiles as a reliever due to his funky delivery. Montas profiles as a reliever due to his uneven delivery that scouts think will give him control issues. Both guys have the stuff to be starters, and both guys can overcome those issues because they are more "I don't like how this looks" and not "this isn't working". They are both getting results with their deliveries, and until they aren't anymore, I don't see why we shouldn't assume they will be starters. a very nice write up. really sounded professional keep up the good work. thanks
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:42 PM) Not that it matters, but Garcia got placed at #19 on top 20 prospects list according to mlb.com they also made some corrections to his profile. i posted his stats on page 3 of this thread, now in the white sox page in MILB they have him with a fastball at 60. the was a surprise.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:45 PM) White Sox or Dodgers list? white sox. i wonder who got dropped?
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:29 PM) I don't see see any other coaches mentioned in those articles . All those are about his thing with LaRussa and his father speaking his mind about it. I specifically asked for anything since then where he has the same problem with other coaches. you can spin it anyway you want. its is all there. esp his problems in Tor. that was according to his father Tonly LaRussa fault???? get real. i am done
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:17 PM) I really don't think Danish profiles well to a reliever at all. I can definitely see that with Montas, but completely disagree on Danish. i like Danish and as a starter, however the baseball pro's see him as a rp. they should know more than I. so i don't know.
  12. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:18 PM) I think there was a Not in there...He also tried to lie his way out of his ped use..Sorry I just don't like the guy an can't root for him ???? uh ????
  13. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 11:09 PM) I think I'm more excited that Mitchell was kicked off the 40-Man. He honestly has no business being on it and another team would have to be nuts to claim him. i am sure he is a nice person, doesn't kick the neighbors dog, but that injury did hurt in other ways. i hope for the best for him.
  14. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) Yes, I think the Sox can sign short term solutions in the meanwhile to hold spots in the rotation until guys like Danish and Beck are ready to contribute and that the large amount of money being tossed at a backend starter would be better invested elsewhere. Something like McCarthy or Masterson on a one or two year deal is just as appealing to me as Maeda. there is no reason to go all hog wild and sign everybody to big contracts. a couple of short, really short terms contracts esp to pitchers would be nice. next yr FA pitchers, some look really good. there are other pitchers this yr that might be interesting, Josh Johnson, Brett Anderson, plus i really like Tim Stauffer who can spot start, long relief or even short relief.
  15. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 10:52 PM) Nobody right now but he's the next man for the chopping block when they make their next FA signing and/or trade. I put that odds at 90% that if they need to clear 40 man spot, he's the guy to go. edit: or when they resign Kong. oh bad if the sox pick up a player???
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) Maybe you can give me links to his problems with other coaches since LaRussa sad he didn't listen to them 3 years ago. So a father likes to talk about his sons. I don't think Rasmus dad could be nearly as bad as Ozzie's kid(s) 1. http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2011...ssa-after-trade 2. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/...dinals-coaches/ three yrs after the trade to tor. in the season of 2014. 3. http://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/548803 no more you can look it if you want to.
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 09:38 PM) Can they not still drop someone between now and next week's draft if they see somebody they like available? if they selected one, they will have to immediately drop one.
  18. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) Garcia is a guy I was hoping they would acquire in a Ramirez trade as a throw in. Another Cuban defector, MLB ranked him as the #17 Dodgers prospect at the end of the season. From MLB: "Used mostly as a reliever in pro ball, Garcia made his big league debut in that role last September. He relies mostly on two pitches: a fastball, which usually arrives at 92-95 mph and seems quicker because he employs a deliberate delivery, and a curveball. Garcia has a hard curve that gets up to 82 mph and elicits swings and misses, and he has a slower mid-70s version that he can get over the plate for strikes. Garcia also has a raw changeup, but the lack of an effective third offering and spotty control make him a better option in the bullpen rather than the rotation. Garcia had bone chips removed from his elbow in November and he was slower to return then expected." holy crap batman, you and i posted the same thing. my statement is in the Garcia trread.
  19. i like it. this is one of the pitchers i was hoping that the dodgers will use as a throw in. his last yr era is a little deceiving, you should remember he was injured. here is his profile from MILB.com he might not be dazzling now, but i would bet he will come around. nice pickup.
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) If the Mets don't protect Leathersich that's someone who'd make sense but I would assume he's protected. mine are Carlye and Evaland (sp)
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 09:08 PM) All that stuff is 3 years old . He has had good working relationships with a few of his hitting coaches since then. and it is still a problem. edit.... oops i did not this was somehow posted by another.
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) I just want to move away from his "head" and more into his talent and fit with the Sox . His upside, if realized, is very high and a potential 4.5 WAR guy who's done it before and is only 28 can't be ignored . If I had to pick one or the other sure it would be Cabrera but I'm greedy I want both unless it costs the Sox a chance to add a quality starter. He doesn't seem like a bad guy and he knows he is to blame more than anyone. http://www.thestar.com/sports/baseball/201...y_la_russa.html LaRussa too has his critics but if wins are the most important things then I guess that makes his personality a winner too. SO simple so in depth. i am sorry but his head will take over for whatever talent he has. Ask any 90's sox or sox fans ask them about Belle or Clayton. but LaRussa is a HOF.
  23. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 03:50 PM) They probably still need a shortstop and they were rumored to being on the sox list. but i really can't see anything that i like in the minors. how bout you??
  24. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 08:38 PM) Thanks for taking the time to elaborate. no prob ...... this is a great discussion.
  25. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) I'm just not interested in Melky. I don't like him. He strikes me as a guy who plays for money an fame and not for the love of the game. I think he'll cost to much an I would't want him for as long as the contract he's seeking(5 yrs.) I think we'd be much better off with Rasmus with a shorter and cheaper contract. I'm still waiting to see whats out on the trade market though. with all due respect, name me a player who doesn't play for the money and love of the game.
