QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 05:06 AM) Duke and Laroche certainly could regress, but Keppinger is an anomaly, not the norm. He just didn't want to play. interesting, I never thought of it that way.
  2. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 01:14 AM) And your're certainly entitled to your opinion, nor am I here to tell you that you're wrong. I'm just a guy stating his opinion after all. And It's my belief that this team truly has a very bright future with a great nucleus to build around. I just think the front office has to be patient and see this rebuild all the way through. I want this team to be building for multiple WS run starting in '17, not hoping for a wild card spot in '15. I think overall, we hope for the same except of the yr in contending. ref to the front office, I think they want to assemble the talent quickly with out damaging the talent base and for just trade Alexei for the sake of trading him. if the right deal comes around, find.
  3. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 05:32 AM) That was actually a post that changed my mind about Cabrera... Before I was on the fence and now I'm off it. Pass - better options will come to pass. oh crap, I didn't know you chg your mind as well. dang it. peat and repeat.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 05:26 AM) Melky Cabrera wRC+ by season: 2006, 130 games - 98 wRC+ 2007, 150 games - 89 wRC+ 2008, 129 games - 68 wRC+ 2009, 154 games - 94 wRC+ 2010, 147 games - 77 wRC+ 2011, 155 games - 118 wRC+ 2012, 113 games - 151 wRC+ 2013, 88 games - 86 wRC+ 2014, 139 games - 125 wRC+ So, he was a rich man's Gordon Beckham for about 5 seasons. Then he becomes Alejandro De Aza. Then, well, we know what happened in 2012. Then he plays like s***. Then he plays pretty well last year. I think we can toss out 2012, since he was unambiguously on steroids. This definitely casts doubt on what was going on with his improvement in 2011, but who knows about that. He had an injury-riddled, crap season in 2013 after the steroid suspension. He played well last year, with an ISO at a level he has only had previously in 2011 and 2012. To me, you're taking a big risk on a guy like that. Either way, there's no sense in freaking out about us getting LaRoche as if that has any real bearing on a possible Cabrera acquisition. I particularly don't want to give up a draft pick to sign Melky Cabrera, and we didn't have to do that with LaRoche. interesting way of showing the info. ok, I am convince again, do not sign him. I am back to my original thought of not trusting him.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 12:30 AM) Just throwing it out there, but the Nationals are reportedly making their starters available to make a run at Scherzer. This whole Q+ thing gets me thinking of Bruce and one of Fister/Zimermann/Strasburg. I think the Nationals could be that third team. interesting...... but how can the sox help there beside Q. what will come back to the sox??
  6. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 12:29 AM) @BNightengale: The Chicago #WhiteSox just signed 1B Adam LaRoche to a 2 year, $25 million contract. holy freaking crap........ yeeesssss I like it like that. edit.... its not even on the mlb rumors. way to go. scoop.
  7. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 12:24 AM) That's obviously what I meant and have stated several times in this thread already. I like Alexei and he's been a good player for us, of course he's not the reason this franchise hasn't won anything. But as you alluded to, if you're realistic you realize he's most likely not going to be around when this team will be competing for a WS therefore making him an obvious trade candidate. I know you didn't mean this for me, but I am going to say something here. I believe the sox intentions is to compete this yr and I believe the sox do have the horses to make it to the playoff.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 12:13 AM) I have three problems with trading Q for Bruce. 1- Q+ is the proposal and I don't care who says what, Bruce does not have Q's value so what is the deal with the Sox giving up Q+ for Bruce? 2- if the Sox are going to trade an insanely valuable asset like Q, why for a player coming off of his worst year ever as a major leaguer? Just dumb. 3- The Sox have but two reliable pitchers the rotation and trading one of them is lights years beyond moronic. May as well trade Sale and Abreu and have a top farm like the cubs/ BoSox and Cards. I'm not against trading any player but the trade has to be a smart trade and as I've said, Q+ for Bruce is an idiot trade. Hahn would be crucified and justly so. If in fact Cincy's GM asked for Q+ in return for Bruce, I would feed him to the pigs myself. for me, #1 I agree, however the baseball pro's may have other thoughts. #2 is just an extension of 1. #3 I think the sox brass knows there is a limited time of assembling a good team to compete. I trust them they have a pict and a game plan and I am sure they are following it. I agree about the value of Q, btw nice way of getting rid of a body without any traces.
  9. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 12:08 AM) Exactly! And how does a team get better? You either A) sign/trade for veterans with inflated contracts that you will inevitably regret, or B) you trade the veterans you have for more talent that can help you in the future. Do you really want to travel down path A again? Pretty sure we've seen that same song and dance before with KW in control. I am more than sure the sox brass has laid out a plan. we are not privy to it. if this team was already stacked and the sox needed a piece to make that team better, then yes. trade someone who can get that player. however do not trade from weakness. if the team is in rebuilding and have a few outstanding player and the clock is ticking, make fa's addition or trade without touching the nucleus of that sudden success.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 11:59 PM) Theo/Hoyer. They claim pretty much anything and everything that has a shred of talent, but they're also currently in a roster crunch. so anything with a pulse and can talk will be claim. uh however I don't blame them

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 11:55 PM) I remember that Wite and I'm with you on that. Only two things couldld get me on board with the idea of trading Q. 1- the Sox end up admitting they are going to continue to draft/ trade for and develope more talent for one more season thus likely not be contenders in 2015 ( I doubt they will anyway) and 2- it would have to be for a package of top prospects that were within a year of so of being MLB contributors. Guys like Seager, Pederson and possibly Urias, though I think Urias' talent is ahead of his arm endurance and will spend a few more seasons in the minors building up innings even though his stuff is just about MLB ready now according to things I've recently read. IMHO, trading Q for three years of Bruce who is coming off of his worst season as a MLB ball player is just a stupid dumb f***in idea man. I believe that in the business world you have to maintain good relations, speak well and carry yourself well but if Cincy's GM called me proposing Q + for Bruce, I would fly out to Cincy to cuss his ass out, whoop his rooty tooth candy ass, throw him into the back of my car and drop him off at a pig farm. And that's if I'm in a good mood. let me ask this, but let me say this first. I do not want to trade Q. if the sox makes a trade for a prize piece of a missing part of a puzzle, the sox will need to make that trade. I don't know if Bruce is that piece or not. next the sox will of course continue to draft to replenish the system, that is understood. now I may have misread your intention on the bolded.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 11:49 PM) He was on the Dodgers 40-man roster. Because he was injured all year long, and the Dodgers wanted to free up an opening on their 40-man for a prospect (their reasons are their own), they felt they may be able to sneak Onelki Garcia through the waiver wire in able to outright him to AAA (thus, removing him from their roster but keeping him in the organization). They were unsuccessful. This has nothing to do with service time and everything to do with the Dodgers being sneaky or misjudging the market and the White Sox capitalizing and retaining the rights to a guy who has a pretty live arm. more than likely a GM name Hahn who is watching the waiver wire intensely.
  13. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 11:18 PM) Who cares? Is there a prize at the end of the season for having a good SS that I'm not aware of? Last time I checked it's all about having the best overall team and the W column. And Alexei isn't Jeter, not even close. and on the flip side, is there a prize for having a exceptional hitting 1b?
  14. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 11:29 PM) Got ya, so that's why we've been winning so many games with Alexei....oh wait. there is huge problems at other part of the team.

the sox are definitely in an enviable position. they have there main players spread out and sign to nice contract. I keep seeing how the Phillies, Dodgers, and some others teams who have a burdensome contract with some players and can't get rid of them. I want to shout out now, but the sox are no where near that problem, just yet. so if it come to be, the sox do get Bruce, let him play out his contract and go the FA route. offer him a QO and get a draft pick the young prospects the sox have, will be needing room to come on up. let the natural attrition of players leaving happen.

    2014 Films Thread

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:43 PM) LOTR is ~1200 pages and became three movies. The Hobbit is only 300 pages. It could have been done in one. Desolation of Smaug was straight up boring. thanks for responding. I forgot that the Hobbit wasn't that long. but it has a lot of story lines. it needed to be at least 2 movies as I said before. in the Harry Potter, the last one was too long and boring. there were several books in the middle that could.ve been made into 2 movies. but then again I don't know if it is that I am a fan of HP.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 10:41 PM) This. if the sox can max the signing by signing all that they can, why not? for a penalty that will need to paid anyway. however most to all that was written was said, but this was a good summation. the problem I have, not about the article but about the sox, have anyone heard if the sox are interested?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 10:55 PM) The value Quintana brings to the table is insane both intrinsically and extrinsically. Frankly, I was struggling whether or not I'd deal him for Giancarlo Stanton 2-3 months ago and then Stanton went and signed a $325 million deal. I'm definitely not trading Quintana for him now, not when he's going to cost $300 million more. a nice thought all around. but like it was said the other day on the dodgers talk. the rtn for Alexei is huge, I could envision the same being said on Q as well.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:59 PM) I actually think this could be a great fit for the rotating DH/OF model. But no, he's not worth a top prospect. Did Morosi say he'd cost a top prospect? I believe there wasn't any mention of any cost what so ever.
  20. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:53 PM) Sooo what's the alternative? You let him play out his contract and watch him decline like all SS's do in their 30's and watch him walk? Honest question....is it a sentimental thing with Alexei? He's been here for a while so people don't want to see him go? Or is it that people think we are gong to compete next year? you asked a good question. a lot of replies came back that were equally good. for me I would like to give you what I think. 1. he still got skills for a difficult position. 2. the Cuban factor which many really don't seem to understand. 3. maybe there is a little sentimental value, but very little. 4. KW being at the helm and seeing this team get screwed on many trades. 5. the value of the rtn is really enticing, it is like holding a great hand in poker and waiting for the last card to flip. 6. finally being in the driver seat and saying if you don't want to play, screw you. these are my opinions only.

  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:27 PM) The Oklahoma native Song Bird likes to clean it's young hatchlings by brushing s*** all over its feathers. Specifically, this ritualistic event takes place in the winter months and blood stained s*** is commonly refered to as the best available s*** for cleaning purposes. One should note that the Oklahoma Song Bird is eight feet high when standing on its hind legs. Residents living around their nests have been warned by the CDC to wear hasmat suits while outside. and i had to ask

Jon Morosi @jonmorosi · 1h 1 hour ago Sabermetric context of Joyce/Bruce comp, h/t @TheFantasyFix: Joyce has higher WAR than Bruce over last 3 years. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...ayers=9892,3353 … Jon Morosi @jonmorosi · 1h 1 hour ago To be clear, not necessarily arguing for one player over the other. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 09:52 PM) Shelby Miller isn't anywhere near as good as Jose Quintana and, at their peaks, I'd say Heyward is slightly better than Bruce. Bruce is coming off the worst season of his career. Frankly, if it were up to me, and they said "we want Quintana," I'd hang up the phone. kind of subtle ..... but i like it.
