We're not anywhere near complete in our minds. We'll continue to be aggressive" Scot Gregor @scotgregor 2h2 hours ago Hahn: "We want to hit off more things on our target list. We're not anywhere complete in our mind" aggressive how??? via trade, if not Alexei then who. btw, I am really happy that Robin Is quoted as saying Alexei is going no where.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 10:49 PM) The only thing I think is ideal would be Abreu hitting 4th. I'd have no problem with LaRoche hitting 3rd or 5th, but really, that's a very minute matter. Getting a lineup such that LaRoche is hitting 7th would require the Sox to bring in 2-3 other absolute studs, which is completely unrealistic. LaRoche seems like a perfectly sensible cleanup hitter to me. Abreu would be more ideal but LaRoche is definitely the 2nd best choice on the team, and Ventura prefers Abreu hitting 3rd. interesting thought, if and I mean if the sox has a very good #2 hitter, I can see Adam being #3 and Jose as #4. you will max the power potential in Jose and the hitting skill of Adam. I like it.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 11:34 PM) Nothing special about Carroll. Thing about Wilkins is that, while he's unlikely to hit in the majors, he could, and it would be at a higher level than Carroll pitches. Plus, there are no hitters on the 40 other than the Major League starters. And presuming that report on future sox was wrong about Rondon, the Sox don't seem to have much Rule 5 vulnerability. I can see that positional players may be on the agenda come next draft.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 11:32 PM) I'm sure they are. Mets really don't have anything to offer that wouldn't be completely laughed at except prospects other than that one injured so-so pitcher. The Dodgers can at least have spare parts outfielders that they can throw out there and try to wait out Hahn and hope he has a brain fog at some point. I hope the Sox take care of the OF fairly quickly - that might improve their bargaining position with the dodgers. Mets, Coln>> been there, done that, no thanks. Jon Niese >> bad shoulder, surgery ?? for Alexei NY Mets >> Delusional.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 08:40 PM) The White Sox, from one angle, are in a great position with 2 superstars (teams better than us don't have that) plus 2 really good young players in Eaton and Q. What the Sox lack are solid league average or above players at 3B, OF, 2B, 2 starter spots, and on the bench. We are the inverse of the Royals...they are solid across the board, with no stars. Why are the Sox so poor at so many positions? Simple - lousy farm system. Poor drafting and ineffective development. There's not an outfielder in the system that you could even contemplate competing for real playing time this year. There are no farm pitchers, YET, who can be anything more than 5th starters next year. Solution? Keep building the farm - don't trade it. Trade Alexei - he's the guy the Sox need to trade. We don't have a 2 year window - we have 5 year window that is just beginning. He won't be here in the prime of it. Move him for young players, prospects or emerging young hitters or pitchers. That 1 sure contender (Dodgers) and 1 putative contender (Mets) are in dire need, should maximize our return. Otherwise, sign 1 starter, and get a LF (non-platoon). Guys like Gillaspie could be a useful piece to the team, especially if he can play OF. He can spell at various positions, play some DH, etc. Trading Sale shifts the window forward at least 3 years, if not more. the problem with the Mets is they are overvaluing their players / prospects.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 08:47 PM) Let me ask you this... What pieces could the Cubs give you that you would accept for Sale? if they would move to Indianapolis / 1-prospect

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 07:37 PM) Loved Carroll's backstory, and I loved getting to help him edit the post he wrote for FutureSox. He's good people, and I'd say the Sox would love to keep him if no one picks him up on waivers. They still might. He'll be on waivers for a while - this wasn't an outright assignment (yet). this is one of those stories that people can think about. also this also show the horrible side of baseball, the business side of it. I will still be his fan.
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 07:15 PM) I'm guessing they have a handshake deal with Carroll to stay in the organization and be one of the first callups if needed. your are probably right.
-
there is a major point that many may not consider. that is a team who has a great surplus of prospects and players with long contracts, that team will be in a pickle like the Dodgers or the Phillies of several yrs ago. can not move players due to the size of the contract and the value of it. then the young talent will be wasting in the minors.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) Carroll did well as the long relief guy in the bullpen. If he clears, I still wouldn't be surprised if they added him again in ST if he does well. wow this move surprise me. i wish him the best.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 05:13 PM) Do you really want Ethier now, after we just added a left handed hitter who rakes against RH pitching but who can't hit lefties? this is the main problem with advance stats. one can not manage a team with advance stats as the main source of scouting rpts. yes those advance stats do help, esp in identifying weakness or strong points. but one can not really manage a team that way. anyway, the team does not enuf room to acquire all the players needed for the different situations.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 06:40 PM) Thats exactly the point I am trying to make, though given the market, I am not sure that no one is going to give you a big offer for him. I am not trying to rush guys off as much as I am trying to expand the window of contention. Once Scherzer and Lester sign, Q is going to look very attractive to the teams that missed on adding them. i really do think that with acquiring a A+ pitcher, with what ever plans Hahn has cooking, the Sox of White can be a playoff bound and may surprise many teams.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 05:40 PM) Depends on if we had a right handed backup OF to go with him. If the backup OF is Jordan Danks, there's no solid way to make that work. If we're talking about a Moises Sierra or better, then ok, that could actually work. if the sox obtain the necessary pieces and if they still want to move Alexei to the dodgers, ok getting 1 of their outfielders then they might as well start improving the minor league team. get prospects who the sox can start to stock up the systems.

Yoenis Cespedes traded to Detroit for Rick Porcello

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) Why would to want Cespedes who is vastly overrated and has 1 year left on his contract? He's not a good fit for this team. offer Beck as the trade payment. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 03:17 AM) Hochevar/Rasmus/Volquez No matter who they get, there will be polarized opinions and no player/acquisition will be universally-praised. And I'm 100% ready to turn the page on Danks and try Ethier as well...rather than having to trade, say, Micah Johnson and Beck/Bassit for two years of Josh Reddick, for example. I rather have the sox of white, will get these 2 bolded players. they will be great in the uni of the sox. the hoopla about Volquez is overblown. by getting these 2 the sox can save Alexei and the team will continue to get stronger. I will also add Ichiro Suzuki as the last outfield position. I do not know advance stats, but I am posting this http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...p;year=&t=b

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 03:13 AM) Kind of recycling. Beane is starting to acquire players to replace the ones he will inevitably trade. For example, pick up Davis to replace Jaso before Jaso gets traded. Also, Davis does bring some nice power potential which is something the A's can use. I think what were talking about kinda goes hand in hand. Basically, Beane wants younger, talented and more cost effective players to replace players that are becoming costly but have solid trade value due to performance and come with two years of control which brings a better return than one year of control. Am I barking up the right my man? I sometime wish the sox can do that. however saying that, I think that they can, if only JR will allow the money to be spent. I believe that Hahn is smart enuf to pull it off. money when I said about the salary, I am not talking about the dodgers salary.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 02:17 AM) Have you noticed MLBTR often cites the person who first reported/tweeted a deal/trade? The concept of getting some kind of credit for releasing news before a club announces something is insane to me. Or predicting news and wanting people to bask in the glow of greatness, like people should hold the person in some esteem for this magnificent prognostication. Nobody gives a hoot. It's just sad that grown men require such attention to feel like men. It's just a big version of little kids saying "See, I told ya so!" Rant over. Get back to work reporting news when it happens. I just had some closing thoughts on this. any thoughts, any mention of the sox in a positive light is great PR. if this, if it is remotely true, spins the sox in a positive light. I can see how these articles can continue to put the sox in the national spot light, then it is fine with me. I also can see how this may even show to not only to the diehard fans, but it may even attract new fans. I made a mention of how I was seeing more articles of the sox at the beginning of the offseason, well I hope it continues and I will not complain or joke how these reporters get their ideas. as long as they continue to talk about the Sox, the Chi White Sox.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 02:57 AM) Of course, we could have predicted that about DeAza and Beckham before the 2014 season...we could have given Sanchez/Semien more of an opportunity to "prove" what they could do. Right now, one has to draw the conclusion they're closer to utility players than everyday starters on the middle infield. Because of the Garcia injury, DeAza and Viciedo both received significant at-bats, but it didn't create any value for the White Sox in the end. Both went from being assets in 2011-12 to being virtually worthless. I really disagree with the DeAza comment of not creating value. he went into a bad tail spin, which I believe is b/c for him, the team had no faith in him. b/c of that, he went into a depression which affected his game. -
when Adam signs, it is going to be really interesting on the 40 man and who is going to be left off.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 01:46 AM) That is professional grade trolling right there. you have been a posters who has posted a lot. so can you pls explain to me, b/c I must be really stupid here. how is that professional trolling. pls do not take offense. I can never tell when one is trolling.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 02:09 AM) Looking at Viciedo's numbers, he's only one year removed from .318 and two from .325. So It's not like he's never done it. yeah I am not a fan of his from day 1. I don't know why, but come on, he must have some talent. its like he has his head up his arse. is he really this stupid. that is why I am constantly telling of getting a couple more Cubans on the team so they can kick some sense into him. -
