  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 09:08 PM) I could have sworn someone on Soxtalk made an argument that Alexeis defensive statistics and zone ratings are skewed negatively because he gets to a lot of balls that he really shouldnt, and then cant make the play because they are such incredibly difficult plays. Or, i could be having a bad Hawk flashback no someone did and i remember someone also was, i think, talking about Rondon as well. then again maybe its my old age that is stopping me.
  2. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 08:49 PM) I know that. I'm laughing at the actual award and being nominated for it meaning anything what so ever. The fielding bible gave Alexei a -10 in +/- runs saved on the year. His UZR was -.7. His zone rating was in the low .700's....seriously, this isn't debatable. He's AT BEST a mediocre fielder. you were laughing at anyone who said that he was up for the award. the proof is there. if you have a problem with it, take up with the committee for that award.
  3. the marlins just spent a crap load of money. i believe if they can pick up a better option than they have currently, then fine. but i am believing that they want high end prospects. the like of a Hawkins, or another who may be 3+ yr away from competing for a position. in other words replenish their system. i think they will start rotating the players who may be ready or past ready for arb. i think they will try to find another way to save money. if they find a, for ex, a Jon Lester, then they will keep that players.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) I wouldn't have done it, but that was the story. If the Sox were even thinking about getting Votto, they wouldn't have signed LaRoche obviously. But Votto hitting 3rd with Abreu 4th would be quite a dynamic duo. That's all I'm saying. the now time, that will be a great combo. however from age 36-41 that contract would be almost a hangman noose. esp if he looses his hitting. i wonder if Trout can be had.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) There's a huge difference between a "win now" move that risks future assets and one that doesn't affect them at all. The LaRoche signing is in the latter category. The truth, as always, isn't black and white. Our "window of contention" is less of an open/shut thing and more of a continuum. Yes, we're trying to win in 2015, but we're not trying as hard as we expect to be trying in 2016, and definitely not as hard as we expect to be in 2017. Rick Hahn's behavior to this point has been to do everything he can to win today so long as it has close to no effect on winning tomorrow. That's not punting the season, but it's also definitely not a situation where he's giving up prospects, draft picks, or future dead money to get the best guys on the field next year. there are several layers of a post>> bad, good, excellent and yours outstanding. with good reasoning to support it.
  7. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 06:58 PM) Lol nominated for a good glove. Good joke man, I laughed pretty hard. You might want to check these crazy things called stats. They don't lie and they don't paint a very nice picture for Alexei's D. here is the article i really do hope you can continue your laughing, b/c it is true. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2216140...lists-announced
  8. he is their starting #1 pitcher, also, they have no need for DV, their outfield is already stacked. the price would be extremely too high to pay.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) North Dakota? I tried not to reply, but... the population is exceedingly tiny and mostly in lower wage work, not to mention the oil boom is by nature likely to cycle back down at some point. The list of usual metro area suspects remains pretty much the same: San Antonio/McAllen, Portland, Las Vegas, Albuquerque/Santa Fe, Nashville, Montreal, Charlotte, Salt Lake City, San Juan. Long shots maybe New Orleans, Oklahoma City. Honestly I could come up with probably at least 50 metro areas ahead of anything in the Dakotas on a list. ETA: The Tampa team is the one who would move, not Miami. to all who posted, thanks for the updates and your opinion. many thanks.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) I doubt it, they have no need for Davidson because they have Votto at first and Frazier at third. Plus, I think thats giving up on Davidson to early. He had one bad year like Bruce, he'll figure it out and still could be this teams third baseman of the future. then that should be a sweet carrot to make it work. put him in the outfield.

i wonder if they will bite on a rtn of C Beck, T Thompson, M Davidson. they are ready to take the next step in the majors.
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 04:59 PM) I was trying to find the thread for this to post this here but thank you. Please Hahn, sign him. The perfect 2 hitter. This leaves our trading chips for a right handed starter/catcher if Hahn wanted to upgrade. If Sox were to get Melky, I'd LOVE to work out a deal with the Padres for Ross ad Grandal. yes he is, i really like this idea. but there is something holding me back. something about his salary and yrs.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 04:56 PM) I'd seriously be happy if he was our final addition at what cost, just asking a question.
  15. ok, i will play but i will not go crazy, (nice song from prince) Jon Lester lhp sp Edinson Volquez rhp sp Tim Stauffer rhp rp spot starter Ed Lucas - trade Tex platoon hitter Ichiro Suzuki outfielder going for 3,000 hits, 1 yr option 1yr ok i lied, my crazy idea - Nelson Cruz. 2 yr option 3
  16. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) When that SS is old, a mediocre fielder, and not a + bat that analogy doesn't even come close to working. This board's value of Alexei is incredibly overblown. If (even though it probably won't happen) they trade Alexei this board is going to erupt with disappointment with the return. last yr, in the beginning of 2014 season, after Jose started to make a name for himself, most was clamoring for his trade. i stood my ground and said no. now this off season, most don't want the trade, my thoughts are the posters are not seeing the rtn value for him as oppose what will be needed to field his position and his batting. and if the our value in Alexei is overblown, there is a reason. on any team, Alexei is being treated the same way he is being treated on the sox. holding the position with solid defense and offense until the time comes for Anderson to take over. it is pure logic that is determining his value.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) If he had the velocity he used to have, I would be all about this. Losing the 4MPH off his fastball, he just looks like BP excellent with hard facts to support. this is his agents spin doctoring the damage.
  18. RHP - LHP, i have always had a problem of that. a good to a very good pitchers is the bottom line. not what hand he pitches. Hamels, Lester, Sale for example a very good good pitchers. if the opportunity is there to get a great pitcher who happens to pitch RH then find. the sox should go for the best pitcher available. an A+ front of the rotation pitcher. now it may be different for the pitchers in the pen.
  19. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 08:58 AM) It's much easier to replace a LF spot than a SS spot. SS is the most important position on the field and the hardest to replace and find good talent for. LF is one of the easiest positions to replace. It's like trading your QB to acquire a good FB. a nice post. your reasoning of the SS is spot on, that is why teams will be willing to spend and get into a bidding contest for the services of a good SS.
  20. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) I like him for a couple reasons.1 he's willing to sign a 1 yr. contract an 2. He's got good upside if he really is healthy. Risky..yes but everyone seems to have risks. I think there are a number of teams interested so he may not come to cheap. I'm thinking somewhere around 9, 10 mil. In any case I'd give him a try. he has no choice in the matter. he needs to sign for 1 yr to reestablish his value. expect a bidding war with several teams driving the salary up. as you said teams may be interested. pass. too many what if.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 12:18 AM) If Wrigley Field isn't ready to use by Opening Day . . . so the sCrub can use the sox park. interesting.... i wonder if JR would be nice and split the gate receipts with them? personally think the sCrubs will swallow the pill and use their park.
  22. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 04:02 AM) I'm going to guess 7-10 mil for 1 year. what i think is he hopes for a bidding war with several interested team. i thought his range would be 5-8 mil.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 04:30 AM) . They haven't said that and they certainly haven't acted that way. What they said is they will put a competitive team on the field. And that they won't harm the long term plan in the process. They have taken a measured approach and gone after relatively inexpensive upgrades. If they were all in it would have been serious offers for v mart , Sandoval, miller and at least shields. I think they need several more moves And hope they make them. I just don't believe that those moves should include trading young talent for veterans. that is purely conjecture on your part, and if i look at it, my part as well. no one knows for sure what the sox have in store, except the sox brass. this whole thing of the sox will put a competitive team can be taken either way. the bottom line the sox is improving the team, not going for top notch free agents and using the veil perception to disguise not spending but finding other alternative to improve the team. Hahn said they have a budget, the sox will not spend like crazy to improve the teams with 15-20 mil on positional players.
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 27, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) Cubs/Sox do not have any overlapping home dates until July 3. i am sorry but i do not understand your point.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 27, 2014 -> 11:04 PM) The estimated population of the Miami metropolitan area is ~ 5 million people. The population of North and South Dakota COMBINED is 1.56 million. all that has been mention is true. i did not know that the owners of the Marlins finally signed the lease. last i know, 2 wks ago, they didn't like the contract. North Dakota is going thru a boom, with more projected. Vegas, i thought that sustaining a crowd for the whole season may be a gamble, no pun intended.
