  1. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 01:51 AM) This really is just Beane doing what he's been doing. Both Moss and Reddick are second year arbitration eligible which is usually around the time Beane looks to trade players. This of course does not happen with every player but Beane has done it plenty of times in the past. I am not going to dispute you, but to point out, he has no major surplus, so acquiring talent to flip for prospects is what Bos has done this yr and will do when all is said and done. so Beane will acquire his share, keep what he needs and trade the others for prospects. again remember, this is my opinion only, what the hades to do I know.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 12:57 AM) The big upcoming deadline for the White Sox is what, Tuesday December 2, when they have to decide whether they're offering viciedo salary arbitration? isn't the 2 the waiver draft??? so wouldn't it be 1??
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 12:58 AM) The White Sox's TV deal does not come back up until 2019. It should not be a factor in any thinking in any way, shape, or form, outside of "put together as many winning seasons prior to 2019 as you can", but there's no reason why that's any different than what you want to do in a normal year. Win as often as you can. really i thought it was 2020. umm then why is 2020 date interest me. no offense, i am talking out loud. either way, a couple of winning season, sir you are correct there. let alone, hopefully WS rings. i keep thinking of the Dodgers tv deal, $200 mil!!!! everything from now until the sox win their first WS ring, cough next yr cough cough , is getting the right mixture of players.
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 12:33 AM) He is clearly better than DV. That doesn't mean we should want him. DV is terrible, lots of players are better. the objective of my interest and of course confusion is that Cuban Factor to make this team interesting esp when their TV deal come back up. let alone beside that winning a couple more of WS rings.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 12:14 AM) Why the A's are stockpiling LH DH/1B's I don't know for me, i thought he would do a fire sale to acquire prospects. the question is when will this begin.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 11:01 PM) Idk man. I'm very much on the "Cespedes is overrated" team, but he's way better than Viciedo. Cespedes has been a 2-3 win player every year, Viciedo has been replacement level his entire career. i am really torn on this, do i like him or is he no better than DV. i am confuse.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 10:55 PM) Nothing is really dead at this point. The Winter meetings start in a week and a half. Things are going to be pretty quiet in general until then. bingo and between that and the waiver draft.
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 11:05 PM) Rofl. The anti-homer. if he was indeed a GM, he wouldn't be after that trade. i only wish.
  9. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 12:49 PM) Could we change gears, for just a moment, on the Alexei to the Dodgers trade? At any rate, my head hurts. Maybe one of you geniuses can come up with some actual names for Team X and Player Y. while it look as you worked hard on this, many thanks for sharing, but there is a problem or 2 in this. finding a 3 rd team with 1. salary room to absorb that big of a salary. 2. there are only getting Kemp for this trade 3. why would they want to do this.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 03:25 AM) There can be no "5/50". He is an amateur. That means the entire amount you spend is a bonus, which means it is paid in year one, all of it. So you'd pay him $50M, and MLB $50M, for a total of $100M, all in bonus. The good news is, he is then on the typical minor league plan - minors regular pay, majors 3 years per-arb, 3 years arb (give or take a year). which is a big IF he doesn't want to play ball anymore. what recourse is there if he takes the money and lets say 1 yr decide not to play? on a side note, where does the penalty money goes?
  11. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 05:58 PM) Sorry, but I can't make sense of any 2 dodgers pitchers being the return for Lexi. With the Sox seemingly being in win now mode it wouldn't even make much sense to trade for Urias who is still a few years away. It would make sense to trade Lexi to fill another hole but Lexi for prospects, unless it's a guy like Joc who is ready to fill the LF hole, would make no sense at all. you got a point but I was looking at lower prospects that can have high upside. there are several more in the dodger system. for multi prospects in rtn, the dodgers will not trade their A+ prospects. however they may willing be entice to go for a 2 for 1 as a package if the prospect are not their top 7-10 prospects.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 11:00 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/non-...ris-medlen.html Kris Medlen would be an interesting "buy low" candidate... a good point, but I would not to expect just him as the only addition for the sox in the pitching department.
  13. Beane, most likely will try to extract the most in trades. that a given, so with that info, pass.
  14. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 05:01 PM) You're probably right, Dodgers would prefer keeping Kemp vs Ethier or Crawford. That's why they are no doubt willing to give Ethier away for next to nothing. But Kemp is a stud. You can put him out in LF and be set for five years. He would hit a ton at the Cell. What I don't know is how important is the feud between Kemp and Puig. Kemp is my choice, even at the cost of giving up Alexei. I was wanting pitchers from the dodgers and 1 of the 2 whom I thought the dodgers would give in rtn, we got, Garcia. he is being added to the Cuban factor that the sox already has. now, if the dodger still will give the sox more, esp in a trade for Alexei, they really need to sweeten that deal. (dang after I finally learned to spell his name) side note. I am still stunned at their TV deal.
  15. QUOTE (daggins @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) I was reading this and now i'm convinced that Cahill will be a White Sock in 2015. If he's healthy, he is still a decent pitcher. Strong GB rate for his career, RH, won't take much to acquire. It's a gamble, of course, but his 2016 and 2017 years are options that can be declined if he stinks. i look at this and for the salary ... no way. there are better options in the fa market.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 02:55 PM) Over the past 2 seasons, Lester has a 10.4 WAR, Q has a 9.0 WAR. Over the next 6 seasons, Q is owed at most, around $40 million, Lester will get about $100 million or more more than that. Q has 2 buyout years at $1 million if something goes wrong. Lester will be quaranteed all his money. Q is 5 years younger. I always thought Alexei was underappreciated, but the thought that anyone here would be willing to trade this guy, when he gives you the performance of a star, and allows the White Sox to spend big money elsewhere because he gets paid so little, makes me believe he is perhaps the most under appreciated White Sox ever. I have seen it posted here he is a decent #2 maybe a three on a championship team. He was 9th in baseball in pitching WAR, and got paid like a reclimation project. There really is no realistic way the White Sox would trade him. I am sure they would take Mike Trout, but that isn't happening. excellent post.
  17. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) Hey guess who had the same OBP as our beloved leadoff hitter. Yep Adam LaRoche. Hey guess who was 7th in MLB in GWRBI . Yep Adam LaRoche with 17. good job at digging up all that info.
  18. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 07:31 AM) Absolutely too early. Lefties only batted .172 against him last year and after getting called up the 2nd time in September he had a 1.88 ERA (2 runs in 10 innings). With Duke in here now, who has the ability to get out righties and lefties, Surkamp can be used strictly as a loogy. I totally agree and 1 thing to remember, how old is he??? he has a lot more developmental time ahead.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 07:23 AM) This article suggests he can be drafted. I find it hard to understand how he's not protected, given some of the mediocrities (and worse) on the 40 man. L Garcia defines credulity if Rondon isn't protected. (and I realize that Ventura apparently liked L Garcia despite his complete inability to hit). http://www.southsidesox.com/minors/2014/8/...league-baseball I believe Myles Jaye is eligible as well. some people were high on him a year ago, although he didn't seem to progress much. hey, thanks for finding the answer and correcting my mistake. yeah this is confusing to me as well.
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 07:10 AM) does JR still have a thing about too much facial hair? I like the signing but the central is in a place where it seems the tigers are on the decline while the Royals and Indians are on the rise with young talent. Where are the Sox in that development? gaining ground very quickly this offseason. however their farm system is extremely weak and off by a 1 + before they start to show yearly rtns.
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 22, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) People have speculated Rondon rushing up at short next year if they trade Alexei. Well he's not on the 40 man and I believe he's Rule 5 eligible. Isn't it possible he's better than L Garcia (and his .399 OPS) right now? Or couldn't a team just take him and stash him and just use him sparingly like the Sox did with Neito last year? Sox have several bullpen-flyer types (Garcia, Cleto, Snodgress) on the 40 man and several low-upside (Danks, Rienzo, Carroll) types and L Garcia. IMO, a stud fielding young low-minors SS is far more valuable than ceiling 5th starters and utility infielders. doesn't have to do with his time??? pretty much like micah??
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 05:11 AM) I also think another reliever is next. Kemp is overkill in the lineup when we still need pitching in the rotation and the pen. Dodgers will try like hell to move Ethier and Crawford before Kemp . They want to keep Kemp. Might take awhile for Dodger to work a deal to get rid of who they want , fielding offers and paying as little of their salary's as they can. Could be Saunders from Seattle ,could be Melky , If Alexei is traded doubtful its for anything but pitching (Mets )unless Hahn waits it out to see how successful the Dodgers are at thinning their OF mess . My long shot bet Francisco Rodriguez. I said this before, my long shot is Tim Stauffer rhp, he can spot start, long relief, short relief. if asked, he prob cut the grass as well. he can do it all. a great great clubhouse guy.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 05:30 AM) The Dodgers TV deal was estimated between $8.35-8.8B (yes billion) for 25 years. If I use the low figure (8.35 ) and divide it by 25 unless I put too many zero's on the calculator it comes to around $340M per year which I think they have to give $80M of that to MLB for revenue sharing. yeah, I thought the $$ was something like 200 mil a yr. so in essence the tv money covers their salary. jeeze. thanks for looking it up, I got lazy and caught up. then I forgot to look it up. many thanks
  24. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 05:14 AM) As of tonight, including the LaRoche deal, they are sitting at about $63.5M with just 7 players counted on the roster. at man, what a tease. i saw 63 mil then i saw 7 players. dang it. thanks
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 06:10 PM) He brought up age when it was an outlier - mentioned that Smith is 26, and on the other end, mentioned that Basto was 20. i made a mistake sorry about the date comment.
