I know I am been really crazy here and playing the "what if" game. I would take Crawford and his whole salary for one of the sox prospect #12-19. but the dodgers need to sweeten the pie with Jose Dominguez and Alex Verdugo.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 01:02 AM) Just to offer a different perspective. Any Shark fans out there consider maybe Oakland wants to keep Shark? After all, they are Losing Lester and Hammel to FA so trading Shark doesn't make much sense from their perspective and could very well force a team to over pay in an effort to acquire him. After all, I'm sure Oakland wants to contend in 2015 as well. Just a thought... nice way to look outside the box. I would have never thought of that. why not, if Oak doesn't get what they want, hold onto him until the end of the season, tender him and get a draft pick.

Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine
LDF replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
there was an article in mlb rumors that the writer mention, it would be in the mets best interest to talk to both chi teams about there SS -
QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 09:51 PM) Its very possible rodon better then shark. not now nor in 2015 season. maybe 2016 but who is a soothsayer who can see the future.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 08:45 PM) I would think if the Sox actually traded for this dope, Alexei would be part of the package. Oakland needs a SS real bad for 2015. there is way too many variables involve esp if he doesn't sign on the dotted line. there are other options avail, fa's where it would only cost a pick.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 06:33 PM) Agreed, that was a hell of a haul. Take the Dodgers for example, IMO, negotiations start with Pederson, Seager and Urias. the prob is, I would do it in a heart beat if the rtn is starting with those 3 plus a additional pitcher.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) No. Nothing can be read into it. He just didn't choose to answer it. His defense will be fine. Not great. Not terrible. But his offense will carry him. Seeing Anderson at some point in 2016 is realistic. either way it is good to another top 100 in the system.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 06:25 PM) No. Way too early to do that. that will prob be the majority opinion.

QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 03:05 PM) I like that they batted him 3rd in the order as well. That is some respect. that is sweet. do you think it would be better for him to switch to 3b and concentrate on his offense. and let the sox go and find another ss?

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) Uh, dude, attendance and TV viewing were both down last year while the team finished 9 games below .500. The Sox were so bad in 2013 that there really was nowhere to go but up in 2014 after signing Abreu. Think of it this way. If not for Abreu, the Sox likely have another 63 game season in the win column in 2014. Abreu offensively carried the entire team all season long. I could be exaggerating a bit but you get the point. Back to Shark. I said it before and I'll say it again. If the Sox are going to use any of their precious few prized prospects, it should be for a pitcher that fits the mold of " the core" the Sox are assembling. Early to mid twenties, team control for at least three/four years, reasonable salary with the potential for an extension at some point etc. Shark is everything but that. There are MUCH better options to spend top prospects on. I agree with everything you said, even about Abreu. he was the most single handed reason what got everybody excited again in the sox. 2014 will be the new platform and to build form there. the sox can make the playoff next yr and I am sure next yr the fans will be there in the stands. if the sox makes the right smart moves. not the quick fix one. I just hope the sox don't waste the farm as KW has done or did.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) Airplane!!! As for Hahn's quote. What else is he supposed to say? " no, we won't be able to compete next year, sorry.". Its PR bulls*** for right now. On paper, no team with that many holes is a legit contender next year. This does not mean the Sox cannot become contenders but the Sox have a rebuilding team, with a rebuilding farm, with plenty of money to spend on limited quality FA's and not much of a history of spending on multiple big contracts in FA. For right now, the sox being 2015 contenders does not add up although I think they will fill a few holes and continue improving in 2015. I disagree completely and for this reason. how many moves, whether trades, waiver pick up, did Hahn make last yr. I remember someone mentioning it before, but I can't remember. the sox made a run for it and yeah it fell short. but it revitalize the fan base and the interest of the sox nation let alone the Nat'l sports news. low and behold, the sox can make even a bigger splash next yr with smart moves.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) Leslie Nielsen quote. one of the great classic quotes in the world of movies. like "make my day".

QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 05:11 AM) Rick Hahn and the rest of the organization seems to think so and how are you getting this feeling, this thought??

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 04:01 AM) The same reason people want to trade for Heyward. They believe for unknown reasons he'd be willing to extend and not make 20-30% more in free agency. Samardzija as a rental makes a bit more sense to hold a spot for Rodon...but if the asking price is too high, and why wouldn't it be...then forget it. I am not disagreeing with you and am agreeing. the point of the bolded is, the sox need a sp, so yeah he could hold the spot open for Rodon. in addition the spot needs to be held for a possible injury situation or even when Danks goes in 2 yrs. are the sox going to fill that spot with 1 or the prize prospects that is developing in the minors. my assessment is Samardzija will be too much up front in trade to be the answer. in a scheme where words may have double meaning, so the word "Rental" can mean anything. from scouring the waiver list for players, signing a player to a 1 yr contract, trading for a player with the intent of trading him later. I am sure there are more meanings than the few I posted. when Hahn said "short term fix" does not necessary mean rentals. it could mean anything.

QUOTE (beautox @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 04:40 AM) I did, I submitted it and didn't get a response. thanks that prob took some nerve - way to go. ummmm anyone can read into that lack of response. did he get something not to say on certain things, did the front office gave him instructions, was it so bad (his D) that he didn't want to say anything? I am sure more can be read it his lack of an answer.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 11:16 PM) He seems to K every game. But as long as he continues to hit the ball hard and get on base, I can live with it for now. Also, Snodgress has been pretty bad all fall. Gave up another ER today in 1 inning with 2 walks. I don't think there's a chance he sees the show as a LOOGY. his offensive number has been consistently positive. I am starting to really get excited about seeing him in the majors. here is a question. with ref to the other pospects the sox sent to AZL, did the team do itself any good? wouldn't it have been better to maybe send Hawkins, or Beck, even Andrew Mitchell instead ??

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 03:57 AM) Don't worry, I'll be starting a new thread for it. Kiley had a prospect chat yesterday and he said the Sox list will be out sometime during next week. Speaking of that chat, he answered some White Sox prospect related questions.... Comment From Guest Montas looking, er, pitching-wise like a SP or still likely a RP? 12:55 Kiley McDaniel: Probably RP, but still has a chance to figure it out. Comment From george rr martin how big of a concern is Tim Anderson’s plate discipline? 12:56 Kiley McDaniel: I’m not too concerned. I’d like to see him make some adjustments, but he barely played baseball as an amateur and the tools are absurd. too bad no one asked him about how far away he is and what was his opinion on his defense.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 08:45 PM) Heyward for one year? Look what the royals had to pay for two years of Shields. Not that much. And a lot of Heywards value is defense-based. 2 different cases and 2 different situation. the 1 thing I know is different teams value their own players differently.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 11:41 PM) If you trade for Samardzija and can't workout an extension during this off-season or mid-season, you can at least offer a qualifying offer next off-season while still trying to work out a deal for him to come back so you can at least re-coup something if he were to sign somewhere else from a potential deal. I will also like to add. the value of what the sox have to give up, to bring him to the south side, will not be well compensated for what is needed to trade for him. the sox system is still very thin. it can not take a hit like that, yet, quit thinking of the KW's era, it is a different show.

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 03:27 AM) didnt Samardzija grow up a white sox fan. thank you, I didn't know you knew I was having problems reading your stuff,

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 10:22 PM) 90 now is not what 90 was 20 or even 10 years ago. Very few pitchers are hitting the majors now with any success that can't crack 90. Like, almost none. Axelrod managed it, but he's a 6th starter at best, and only because he throws a lot of strikes and has heavy pitches. There are exceptions of course. That doesn't mean you need to throw 95 though. Tyler Danish will never hit 95, in fact his fastballs will usually be 88-92 or so, but he's got crazy movement, lots of sink and a deceptive delivery. He may represent, in the current game, the near-bottom-end of the playable fastball velocity range. this whole thing is what I was trying to say. but as I said before, for me, if the pitcher does not have a power pitch per se, he will not be a sp.

I was looking for a catch all player movement for this offseason. so without one I used this one. ok. Andrew Bailey and the yanks made so sort of a deal. Damn this is 1 player I was hoping for a special project type and had Coop's name on it. what I found was that he had 5 arm surgeries since 2005. mlb trade rumors

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 09:31 PM) A couple of those interviews with Rasmus near the end of the season would give one the impression he doesn't exactly like playing baseball. it is simple .... just quit. interesting thought, if that is his attitude, is the role of his father is to continue to berate him into playing???? then if by any remote answer is maybe yes, then it is a maturity issue or something deeper. kind of remind me a wimpy story.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) This is off topic a little bit, but i'm appalled at DeAza's improvement once he got to a team with a good manager. WTF. I mean if DeAza was going to do that we could have kept him another five years. Something has to give with our team, folks. Something may be amiss. Anyhow, Saunders for Viciedo might be a decent flip flop; we shall see. I honestly don't think it has anything to do with managers but a little known factor. that is slump. batting slump happens all the time, the player need to continue to work thru them.
