QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) Well, the homers are less, but you'll notice that Saunders actually has a higher SLG. Which really just underscores the issue with Viciedo, which is that he doesn't hit enough to take advantage of his power. He clearly HAS more power than Saunders, but it actually PLAYS lower. good point and I didn't even think of that. nice

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) here is the most important question I came up with while reading this thread today. Hey Dick Allen. is that pict you have under your name is Geddy Lee of rush?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 09:36 PM) Yeah, in fact his stats are all I'm going off of. Haven't seen him play much. Let's see: 2014: Saunders: .273/.341/.450 (126 wRC+) Viciedo: .231/.304/.405 (88 wRC+) Steamer 2015 Projections (all we have so far): Saunders: .244/.324/.405 (110 wRC+) Viciedo: .253/.304/.435 (104 wRC+) So the 2014 numbers are not even remotely close, and Steamer projects substantial negative regression from Saunders as well as substantial improvement from Viciedo, and yet Saunders STILL comes out ahead. I'm also willing to bet that Saunders will play much better defense. And also he's left-handed. No idea how this wouldn't be a huge win for us. EDIT: I mean, we're not even sure we're going to tender Viciedo a contract, right? a good point with the stats added. many thanks. however how does the power stats look like?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 09:34 PM) Michael Saunders is a guy who is not a terrible hitter. He is an average to above average defender. Those are two things that Dayan Viciedo is not, and they comprise most of the things baseball players do. It'd be a damn coup. with respect. I do not know about that. I too looked up the stats and profile. I only saw that he is arb time and bats lefty. the power numbers are less than DV. if seattle is dumping Saunders why if it is not a salary dump.

QUOTE (Downtown518 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 09:01 PM) Funny timing on this... Will Carroll retweeted this about 35mins ago, though the original tweet was from March 9th. Will Carroll retweeted Jason A. Churchill @ProspectInsider Mar 9 Hearing Michael Saunders is a name that has been discussed in Dayan Viciedo talks with White Sox. interesting but confusing. so as a poster mention, it will be a chg of scenes for Saunders and his salary which is 12. the rtn will be DV and his 4+mil. is this right?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 08:58 PM) Bassitt's fastball runs 92-96. That's a far cry from "the 90 range". yeah you are right. good catch, but I still mean the other things I wrote.

~1. Bonifacio - have no opinion on him. I never factored him for the sox to get him. ~2. Chris Young - same as above. ~3. Kendrys Morales (1/$9) - a 1 yr deal. let him rebuild his value. a win / win deal. ~4. Rasmus the sox had a chance to get him before. but his baggage that comes with him deter that. I just don't know. what does anyone think of a 1 yr deal with a clause of the baggage coming into play?

2 pitchers came up. both with the mets. Buddy Carlyle and Dana Eveland these 2 are a must. if the sox sign them or even 1 the sox will be 1 less in looking at fa pitching.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) It's really fun reading some of the names on this list. It always is. there are some players that I was high on. Kyle Skipworth, Clayton Richard, Scott Diamond to name a few. very interesting reading. thanks.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 05:29 PM) I'd bet dollars to donuts that the Sox are after a real OF this winter. It will be one of their top priorities. and again, I agree with you. but I bet the same bet, that the sox will let the urgent sense of doing something right happens first. I am leaning that the sox will let the smoke settle and the field play out before they do something.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 05:41 PM) There will be other teams who are willing to offer way more. then let then offer more and have the possibility of Samardjiza not signing a extension.

QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) Rosenthal does a good job. It just depends on the overall picture of what Hahn and Co. are trying to accomplish this winter. They don't want to waste years of Sale and Abreu being on the same team, so it's a balancing act of going for it while not mortgaging the future. you may be right. but I am looking at it this way. a reporter any reporter looks for a story. Samardjiza played in Chicago. the sox may look for a starter to be the #3 pitcher. Samardjiza will be a free agent next yr. Oak is a smart org who will not be afraid to make a deal why not sox and Samardjiza be a perfect marriage. do not get me wrong on the sox getting a very good sp. I will write on that later.

Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) Or Asdrubal Cabrera as I forgot he has no draft pick attached to him. Could sign him to a 3-4 year deal then trade him after year 2 or 3? much better, look at options that doesn't loose a pick. -
many thanks for your hard work. what gets me and I am 100% guilty of this. looking down on pitchers who pitch in the low 90's. I guess with the era of the power arm pitchers who pitch in the mid 90's as a starter got me train to look for that kind of arm. if he is like Bassitt who has the ability to miss bats while piching in the 90 range. that is one thing.

QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) Just aw the end of Hit Stove, Rosenthal said Sox are showing interest in Samardjiza. (he didn't reveal his source).Cant even imagine what we would have to give up if it goes through, But Sale Q and Sam would be a nice 3 fit in the playoffs. Not sure how realistic it is of anything actually taking place through. Just wanted to throw this out there for a hope of a good established righty. I saw it and really laugh. it seems as Rosenthal is getting his articles from the same place a Levine. the cost to obtain will be too much. signing him before fa kicks in. too much.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 04:04 PM) If we trade Alexei, we need to get at least one top 100 out of it. As far as replacement goes, grab Stephen Drew as a stop gap. No draft pick loss, good defensively at short and honestly I don't really trust 2 young players up the middle when they were both pretty shoddy defensively last season. 1 the sox better do better than 1 - top 100 prospect. 2. Drew forget about it. I would rather deal with it in house and if need be go fa market in 2016. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) If the White Sox made an offer, it was 4 years, $48 mill. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/11/tige...r-martinez.html We also have this post on our site indicating that the White Sox never made an offer to Victor Martinez - http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=2288912 So the two options we have are: 1) The Sox made an offer less than that of the offer Detroit made 2) The Sox did not make an offer It's very easy to see why Martinez signed with Detroit. you again may be right on this and with links. i will say this with the idea of countering you questions. i can see Det with what 13 mil over sox at 12 mil I also and would bet this is a best case, the sox not offering anything b/c of the PED. JR is that kind of person. offering him the money is like condoning what he did.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 03:51 PM) Thanks for the comments. It appears that perhaps the best course is to let him start the season at AAA, and work on polishing his defense at second. I don't find the assessment that he has "hard hands", very encouraging. A guy with foot speed, and hard hands, seems better suited for the outfield. However, so be it. Let's see if he can 'soften' his hands, a little. So, back to finding a left fielder. Some suggest Semien. Next? hard hands. may not be the right description. I prefer hand of stone.
-
QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) Do you gentlemen think that Johnson could provide solid defense at second? If not, then the Sox should think of a position change. If LF is too great of a challenge for him, at the Big League level, then perhaps he should spend some time there at AAA. It doesn't seem like a good move to put him at a key defensive position like 2ND, unless he can provide solid defense. That is a greater defensive liability, for the team, than a less than competent left fielder. What exactly is his greatest short coming at second? How well does he turn the double play? Lillian you made a very compelling argument on this, but let me ask this counter question. can he be worst than Conor is at 3b, stat wise? there come a time when people have to realize, some prospects are not the finish product when they make it to the majors. they will have some OJT there. he is too good not to try him in the majors.
-
QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) Semien was the one they tried out there so I'm guessing if any of the MIs get moved to LF it'd be him. bingo!!!
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) Pretty sure the Sox had interest, but Martinez signed so early in the offseason that it surprised the Sox and they never actually contacted him. They were going to make him a similar or better offer than the one they made to Dunn. you are correct, the sox did have more money on the table and was very interested in him. I can't remember why he liked det better or why he didn't want the sox.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 03:15 PM) I'd rather just sign Sandoval at his astronomical asking price than taking Fielder. what amazes me is that nothing as been mention of him as a clubhouse problem ...... maybe he was a good guy last yr. maybe I am wrong. maybe he wouldn't mind have a diet clause submitted in his contract.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 03:12 PM) We don't want that contract. It was a time bomb the minute it was signed, and it has already started to explode. I continue to get angry every time I think about how Texas let Detroit off the hook with it. I agree with you esp about letting Det off the hook.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 03:01 PM) Twice. He had a nerve thing in his throwing arm. The good news is, the second surgery is a permanent fix, so it shouldn't recur. The bad news is, it may have been caused by bad throwing mechanics.. many thanks, but that is the point. why put him into a situation where the old injury may affect him even more. 2nd base is the answer.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 02:57 PM) I thought that Davidson was ultimately better suited to play LF, than 3B, providing of course, that he gets back on track. Then too, there are several promising guys who could eventually fill the outfield. I'm thinking J. Mitchell, Jacob May and C. Hawkins. It seems that they are really in greater need of finding someone to get them through the next season or two, before those guys are ready. I think May will eventually take over in CF, and Eaton will move to LF, if he's still around. Eaton just seems like the kind of guy who will slow down due to injuries and age, and without speed, he wouldn't be much of an asset. I hope you are right about your expectation of May. I don't see him or his batting to improve. look at his offensive stats in the minors.
