  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 10:33 PM) Sometimes the backup plan is available before Plan A. I'm guessing Shuck is about Plan C. Plan C is about rights. I was looking at it and I am guessing that it wouldn't surprise me that the sox go with him as the only outfield acquisition. I am still thinking they, the management is planning on a huge int'l signing. disclosure - I am in no way having any inside info. just a fatarse gut.
  2. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) I think Conger was brought in to give Castro some competition after Castro's numbers took a big hit in 2014. I don't think the Astros deal Castro and if they do I hope its not the Sox. As others have said, if Castro is an upgrade its a very slight upgrade and that's before taking into account how Flowers knows the Sox pitching or the fact that Flowers hitting progressed in 2014 while Castro regressed. Astro fans can keep their precious Castro, the Sox do not need him. stat wise, I was looking at them side by side. well I will the other post their thoughts on it. look at flowers, the last 3 months. and then at castro. I would like to see your response.
  3. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) Vomit sandwich oh mannnn visually that is disgusting.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 10:17 PM) Sounds like Sharp will be out at least a month. whew..... that is good news. a month for the injury and 2 to 3 weeks to get in game shape, sounds like xmas. any news on who was called up??
  5. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 09:09 PM) Pretty hilarious...Astros fan on mlbtraderumors saying it would cost Jose Abreu or Chris Sale because " there's nobody on that team anybody wants" that proves my point on how disillusional people outside soxtalk are.
  6. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) I disagree. The chance to add an elite bat without having to give up anything other than money makes a lot of sense. It also allows Hahn to use assets like Johnson and Sanchez to upgrade other areas of the team. A deal like M. Johnson, Beck, and Hawkins for CarGo would greatly improve the OF defense while also adding a legitimate bat to the lineup. Eaton Ramirez CarGo Abreu Fernandez Garcia Gillaspie Viciedo Flowers UTL Semien OF Danks/Shuck 1B Wilkins C Phegley SP Sale SP Quintana SP McCarthy/Other FA SP Danks SP Noesi RP Petricka RP Guerra RP Bassit RP Putnam RP Webb RP Franklin Morales RP Joe Thatcher ok it is my turn..... ref m johnson. i am greedy here and will say no to trading m johnson
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) Still, I was mostly contesting the idea that Anderson will put up a healthy season at some point. Nothing he's done thus far has shown he's capable of ever doing that. I also don't think you want Rodon to be someone who replaces a free agent you brought in. I think you count on him as being apart of the rotation and he replaces Bassitt (or Noesi or Danks or some free agent flyer). I'm just not sure Anderson makes a lot of sense to the Sox as a starting pitcher. Maybe they can sign him to a lucrative contract and see if he has anything as a reliever. you made a lot of good points. but getting Anderson with the idea that let say a 1 yr to rebuild his value would be a nice option. the other problems i have and it has nothing to do with your comment but about Anderson is NEEDED to be healthy in the beginning of the season.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) But they aren't supposed to spend money until they are ready to win. Just ask Keith Law. Signing Abreu was dumb. a good one.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:38 PM) That is nuts to me. Would you trade Spencer Adams right now for 1 year of Victor Martinez? They would have to give up a 2nd round pick for 1 year of a guy. Just doesn't make any sense to me. the sox got lucky, extremely lucky with Adams. but then again it is Hahn running the draft now. but how many times does a 2nd pick is a success. ans = rarely a few times.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) The same winter they did that, they dropped a record contract on some dude named Abreu as well. well said. let me add, look at what the sox had. they had to try to get players. short term players. yeah those gambles didn't work. here is the question that should be asked. why didn't the sox go all in a rebuild like the northsiders???? b/c there would have been a mutiny with that fans.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) If we are really talking about Martinez, I would rather give me a big overpay for one year (say $20 million+) versus giving him a 4 year deal. bravo and that is why i chg my position of VMart. 4 yrs and 20 mil per...... nah.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) I would love a comp pick for Viciedo. thanks, i would even take a slot pick and money. build for the DRAFT
  13. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) Well said. Dumpster diving. yeah isn't that a kool phrase. i love it.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:25 PM) Would that only be if the White Sox actually went to arbitration with him? Because they wouldn't do that, like every other team they'd sign a contract somewhere before the hearing. it would be fun b/c of his agent.
  15. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) Considering DV has 20+ HR power, I bet there's a few teams that would be interested. The key is for Hahn not to expect too much in return. With payrolls opening up over the winter as they always do, now is the best time to find a trade partner for DV and not before the deadline when most teams budgets are just about tapped. Dunn did net the Sox Nolan Sanburn so I think there's hope for DV. i would even settle for comp picks or slot and money.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:12 PM) Trade deadline is not a good way to judge. Teams could be budgeted out, or may be looking at a different guy. The offseason is quite different. Teams aren't committed to the same players, etc. Hahn knows if he could trade Viciedo. If he doesn't want him and can't trade him, he will be non tendered. If he is tendered. He either wants him or knows he can get something for him. not necessary true. depending on the org meeting on budget, he may be worth a gamble for a player who can still hit something like 15 hrs. then see what is out there in 2016 in players for trade or fa.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) I am one of the few who is not sold on Noesi. i respect that. but you can not deny his limited success he had last yr. remember he was a waiver pick up.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) I think you're exactly right, that team is probably over .500, but if a few things are iffy it could still be well under .500. Hence my problem with spending big on VMart while still being cheap elsewhere. if you're going to sign Victor Martinez, you're making an all-in move. Stop fiddling around and commit to it. Victor Martinez and a couple relievers makes us a "maybe over .500 team", but add in a top flight RF and now we're talking about a team well over .500. Tim Anderson + Montas is probably a good start on the way to making that happen, that ought to clear someone loose, maybe even one of the guys from the Braves. If you're not ready to trade the guys we have on their way to AA not named Rodon (fine, he's too pricey even for me to move), then you're not ready to sign Victor Martinez. while i do respect the logic on VMart, and remember i was talking him up toward the end of the season, the sox should not go all in for several players. it reminds me of the Yanks of the 90's when they thought they could buy all there players and win the world series every yr. they didn't and there payroll was like 160+ million. spend smartly and fill up the holes.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) Yes, according to Forbes the White Sox lost money in 2013. But JR has had his minions tell us they only strive to break even every year. If that is truly the case, they have some catching up to do. The last time they lost money in a season was 2001, since then, according to Forbes, they have pulled a $189 million profit. Can we quit the crying poor for the White Sox? They have even trained the media into thinking they are broke. Remember when they signed Dunn? Paulie and AJ were out the door, until they weren't. JR was asked, "where did you get the money?" "You save a little here, save a little there" that was the response. There is plenty of money. Dumpster diving gets you Felipe Paulino. Get some real players. JR is smart, they have this profit / lose marginal for every yr of that yr expenses and profit. yeah, he may have lost for 2013 but no one factoring the profits the other yr. nor are they factoring other profits that is not listed that is associated with the running of the org. being smart and taking a smart gamble can get the sox a player like Hector Noesi and looses like Paulino. Dumpster diving...... i love it. the sox did not become a 2 billion org for nothing.
  20. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) So what happens if we can't trade him? It's not far-fetched to think he would be difficult to move, given the trade deadline we just witnessed. So either we move him for some organization's literal garbage, or we're stuck with him wasting a roster spot again. In my opinion, the 1% chance that the Sox turn Viciedo into the next Matt Thornton is not worth the 30% chance that they're forced to keep employing him. the trade deadline is the perfect example of not assuming a player can be traded. Danks and DV couldn't be traded, but i keep seeing this phrase thrown out there. we then can trade him. posters need to start looking to see if a player has value and what that value is. not what we, as fans think the value should be.
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) No you are keying on 1 item which is my Dunnitis comment . I listed other factors. . Again I have many posts in the VMart thread I started and not one person has taken offense to anything I have said while disagreeing with many of them. I could be wrong about VMart , I could be right. Time will tell. See this sentence " MOST (meaning most of the people who disagree with me ) would rather see the money spread out." you are trying to spin this. this forum is for posters who agrees and yes disagree with others. it is meant for to talk sox baseball and other parts to talk in general. does everyone need to have the same opnion no, but lets all see where this posters is coming from and his reasons. who knows some may even learn something new. i am all for that. but when you take some comments who don't agree with you, don't try to spin it for something other than it was or is. a disagreement on what you are saying. don't belittle with smart arse comebacks that is meant anything but a put down.. i am done here and will respond no more on this subject. peace.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) Someone will give Rasmus $36 million for 3 years because of his youth, ability to play all three outfield spots and "potential." Romo one year at $8-9 million. (If guys like Andrew Miller are getting $20 million plus based on one season...or Gregerson, that's not hard to imagine at all). Anderson's hard to predict...he won't want to sign a long-term deal, so he's going to try to max out a one year deal or a single year with option/s attached. If Jake Peavy's going to get $10 million (plus), then I'll put Anderson at $8.5 million (roughly where Josh Johnson was). That gets you to $29 million. Then LaRoche at $8.5 million for 2 years, for a total of $17 million. (Remember, Gold Glove caliber, etc., that comes with a price even if the White Sox want Abreu to play there the majority of the time). There's $37.5 million. for the most part I am with you on this. but this got my head scratching. LaRoche will get his 15 mil.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) I've seen Dunn's name thrown in with quite a few posts when talking about VMart , not the vast majority of them of course but it is a factor just as the other things I listed are factors also. So it is not demeaning or superior when I see it with my own eyes as evidence. you are keying on 1 item. that is Dunn. I am not saying nothing of that. what I am saying is how you are replying to those who don't necessarily agree with your opinions.
  24. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 02:37 AM) I agree that Viciedo's got enough value to be tendered a contract but he has not hit 20+ HR 3 straight seasons since it was 25, 14 and 21 which averages out to 20/season exactly ,not 20+, nor 3 seasons in a row for the sake of accuracy when supporting your opinion. unless it was meant to be an avg of 3 yrs.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) Let's say they added Rasmus, LaRoche, Brett Anderson and Romo...along with the idea of Rodon joining the team at mid-season. Does anyone believe that's enough to put the White Sox in contention in 2015? We have to face the fact that outside of signing Scherzer, Lester, Sandoval, V-Mart or Hanley Ramirez, there aren't many INDIVIDUAL players who will move the meter until the Sox start winning again. The combination I listed above is going to cost around $37.5-45 million in added payroll, just a guess. Anderson needs to be healthy to start the season. like this his presence will help ease Rodon into the game.
