  1. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) Ideally, the Sox farm system would permanently reside in that 1-5 range; that would mean the Sox are drafting well and developing well. 1-5 is better than 10-15. this is a vicious circle. the sox using the players and loosing them thru attrition. they are stepping into roles for the parent club. there is going to be a time when that will slow down to a crawl. prospects will not be moving up and the farm system will get rated higher. however that will develop a pool for using from trades.
  2. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 10:47 PM) At this point, I think Johnson and Davidson are different. There's no doubt Davidson was bad but he did show power, some ability to walk and has history of being a better hitter than what he showed in 2014. Could quite simply be a down year. Johnson just flat out s*** the bed, crawled into it and died. The only bright spot to Johnson's season was that it came to an end, lol. Dude was just horrible all the way around. I just don't believe that as an example. there has to be an explanation
  3. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 12:00 AM) The bat does tend to get through the zone quicker when it isn't contacting the ball. that is funny.
  4. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 04:11 AM) I'd think Johnson in AAA, Sanchez starts most games at 2nd hoping to show off his good glove and some improved hitting while building up his trade value. Semien platoon at 3B with Gillaspie and gets some time at 2B, SS (like 1 game), maybe LF and even DH. Not knowing what the offseason acquisitions might be, I'm honestly most excited to see what Semien can do next year based on his September in Chicago and season in AAA. The BB/K rate is impressive and what kind of gets overlooked is that between the minors and majors he hit 21 homers in each of the last 2 years. and that is what I am talking about. those 3 infielder will help facilitate in the rebuilding and will be the cornerstone that stabilize any young and rebuilding team. I just hate the idea of losing 1 of them to trades. Spring and this offseason will will give us how well the sox will be next season.
  5. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 06:42 AM) I've had Ian Happ, Daz Cameron, and Brendan Rogers right at the top of my want list with Carson Fulmer. my top player I had is Michael Matuella with Rogers #2 and Ian Happ #3. Kirby #4. now I don't know but I may look at prospects who can move fast in the system and hitter how has power. not overwhelming power. however where the sox is drafting #8, I may have to go HS. the thing I started to notice on the last 2 mock draft. is the HS'ers are starting to make more of a name for themselves. the baseball professional mention early that this draft is situated for hs pitchers. yeah it is starting to look like it. but back to what I was saying. why not hs'er Trenton Clark? how bout Alex Bregman ss LSU?

    The Pet Thread

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 05:50 PM) True story: As I said, we have two indoor cats. Both are assholes. My wife and I went to some family thing and left for a weekend, Friday-Sunday. I return home to find our bedroom closet open. The closet has 2 sliding doors, which the cats will open from time to time (this is another annoyance, since the 3 bedrooms in the house have the sliding doors and they always try to open them in the middle of the night, waking me up). at first I didn't think anything of it because they always open them. So I start closing the door and I smell this awful scent of piss and s***. Turns out, they used my half (just my half) of the closet as a litter box for the entire weekend. No reason really. It's not like they couldn't get to the litter box or the litter box was full. They just are assholes like that. All of my shoes are on the floor, including multiple pairs of nice leather work shoes. All pissed and s*** on. All ruined. And the kicker: one of these f***ers mounted a shoe so perfectly that when it s***, a single solitary turd went inside of the shoe and moved down into it. One single turd about 4-5 inches long right in the middle of the shoe. I'm still not sure how the asshole managed to do that. It defies physics really. If the cats had not hidden they would have been outside within minutes. But lucky for them I couldn't find them. And I tore apart a lot of the house to get them. My wife and I yelled for an hour or so and then didn't talk the rest of the night. The only time in 12 years I was so pissed I didn't want to be near her. The cats are still around, unfortunately, but the wife understands that if something like that happens again there's no argument. They're gone. I had to come back to this post and get my daily fill of laughter. what is soooo funny is in addition you are talking about them as they are a third person.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) Win. 90. Games. A couple years in a row too. bingo!!!!! that is the answer and with smart usage of the sox resources. I would most definitely add, real smart drafting. if the sox acquire the nucleus of a very good team, this next draft, esp in the first rnd may need to be a fast moving hitter (s)
  8. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 04:43 PM) Let's not be THOSE fans who overrate our prospects so heavily. Montas is the ONLY guy who MAY wind up in the BACK of a top 100 list. Beck and Sanchez are dime a dozen prospects. Montas took big strides, but he is still 1 more great season away from being a consensus top 100 guy. isn't that the case in a lot of situations? you are right though, we as fans need to keep that in the back of our mind. what is really the real value of Player A,B etc..
  9. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) Who? Its insanely laughable, but if you wanna put people in the stands with someone next to Abreu, then Giancarlo Stanton would do the trick. YES I KNOW IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. But you asked what would do it. At what cost? probably whatever THEY wanted for him. The other scenario (or should I say pipedream) Trade for Puig........and sign V Mart (Yes I know V-marts age, but he seldom strikes out and is still proven to be an impact player. Just saying.... want people in the stands? CF Eaton 3B Gillaspie (since he makes contact)(Or whoever plays second base listed below for speed/makes contact and can bunt) RF Puig 1B Abreu DH Vmart LF Garcia SS Alexei 2B (Semien/Sanchez/M.Johnson) C (Whoever) Before anyone goes off on a tangent... I KNOW this is not ever feasable. Just answering the question as to what it would take to get people in the stands next to Abreu. Those 4 in the middle of the lineup with speed /contact hitters ahead of them?? Would love to see it. you are partial right and that is where I was going for. as you said, insanely laughable (I like these words) Stanton is what I wanted to use as an example. the sox would have to throw in the farm system and utilities. but it would put some fans in the stand. but that is not going to happen. so smart acquisitions of players is a must. smart addressing the need of the team with the free agents and yes if must trading players esp favorites to acquire the final pieces may be required.
  10. I am going to use this thread of vanishing from the radar. there are 2 that comes to mind. of course Erik Johnson but I would like to add Matt Davidson. I would really like to see how they come along in spring training.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 03:54 AM) Non tender is gonna be interesting for Viciedo IMO. They really may feel the salary savings and roster spot are worth the mild risk someone will give up anything interesting for him down the road. I think that the sox really have no choice but to tender him.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 11:42 AM) Even if you believe his WAR figures are accurate, he's 33 years old and has one season of team control left. No way you give up that package for him. In fact, that package might be able to land you a guy like Jay Bruce, who is younger and provides multiple years of control at a very reasonable price. you give up that package for a player in the mid 20's.
  13. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) It's a little mind boggling to me how many of these trades involve our top prospects by the way. We are just now building up our farm system for the 1st time in a long time, lets not ruin that by trading them for guys who in all reality aren't big difference makers. Rodon, Anderson, Hawkins, Micah, Montas, Adams, and Danish should all be borderline untouchable imo. Unless someone blows us away with an offer of a hitter under 27 who could be a cornerstone of the franchise for years to come I'm not moving any of them. With the pieces already in place we have a real shot to build something special, don't ruin that by trying to rush it. I agree and would like to add, the sox may not have that one additional superstar that many appears to want, but I trust Hahn in doing the right thing. the sox has more of a need in fielding a competitive team. the sox fans will not accept anything less. find the missing pieces thru free agent signing, continue rebuilding the farm and draft smartly. ref sox fans, has anybody really noticed that we are really that demanding? so can anyone really imagine, for this example only, if the sox would have made a trade for let say a known superstar hitter. put that hitter next with Jose A, I would imagine that the crowd will be coming back in the hundreds. question, which hitter can do that now and what would be a cost?

    Free Agents

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) The player De Aza was for us from 2011 to 2013, is not the player he is today. A lot of his value was tied to his ability to play a solid CF, which is no longer the case. He's now a platoon corner OF, which has some value since he represents the strong half and provides very good range. But let's not use history to gauge his value now, because he's no longer the same player. when talking about the stats, I will give way to yous guys. but I always valued his bat. last yr was a bad yr for him, maybe it was an emotional thing of the sox not valuing him or something. who knows. his defense drove the sox nuts, wasn't there a time when RV was saying that it appeared as he wasn't paying close attention but reacted late?
  15. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 03:49 AM) thanks for the link enjoy fangraphs but that was just sorta a confusing article imo. The hit tool should be simply defined as the ability to hit to all fields for average in games. It doesn't really matter how you get there. Now, obviously there is a subjective element of "speed through the hitting zone" but a guy like Adam Eaton probably has below average bat speed all things considered but because he can spray the ball all over and run, he has a very good hit tool. A guy like Dayan is quick through the zone with oomph but his timing is so awful he can't hit for any average. His hit tool is below average but he has above average bat speed. The anti-Eaton. confusing, hell yeah. but I am not a stat guy, I thought the stat guys would say things and I may pick up the pieces. for me and I am just basing this on imo, but DV problem seems to me that he can't pick up the pitches or the kind of pitches when it leaves the pitchers hand. maybe he needs glasses like Flowers.
  16. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 01:40 AM) Top 51 from fan graphs. And others who missed the list. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2015-mlb-draft-top-51/ this is 1 pitcher that I have been keeping an eye on. Cody Poteet, RHP, he too had a good spring at the cape.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 02:07 AM) Yeah nothing really about that profile excited me at all. oh man you are killing me, that is my #2 - 4 favorite pick. good hitting tools, at the cape this summer, showed that he could hit for power, more walks than strikeout. oh well, that is my cross to bear.
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 12:59 AM) Rangel Ravelo can. Sarcasm? Because it is logical. furthermore, look at last yr draft. the 1 pitchers that was drafted what, 13 was not sign, b/c Rodon agent wanted all he can for his client. if there was a chance to have sign him, that draft would have been even better.
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 12:59 AM) Rangel Ravelo can. Sarcasm? Because it is logical. if I meant it as sarcasm I would have change the color. I really meant it. I also have to keep reminding myself, it is oct 2014. a lot can happen between now and draft days. players not listed may come blazing up the list while others may plummet or get injured.
  20. fangraph has an article on hit tools and with Tomas. good reading. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/scouting-the-hit-tool-pt-6/
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 12:20 AM) I understand that, but those numbers while starting are pretty solid. You may be very right in the end, but the things he has problems with now can easily be fixable. Like toning down his delivery, durability is simple too. Honestly, he reminds me of Tim Lincecum when it comes to his delivery, size and make up as a pitcher. I'm pretty sure everyone here wouldn't mind a prime Tim Lineceum. Edit: Also, if he is projected a mid to late. Pick him at 8, save some money and get some players that will require to go over slot with next selections. and why not. great strategy, come draft day.
  22. I thought this might be good reading, esp for the advance stat people. 1 of the sox players made the list. I don't know if it was good or bad. http://www.hardballtimes.com/improvements-...-but-effective/
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 11:09 PM) I agree, there are many needs, that's why in the rest of the draft you target BPA. You might let the ability of a guy to make the big leagues quickly enter your mind in the first round, but that might also get you to pass over a younger guy with boatloads of talent. that is the problem now with the recent mock draft. there are several options at the pick of #8. I sure as hell can't wait for college ball to start. all those names will get sorted out. yeesssss.
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 10:07 PM) I do not see him as a closer. I see him the same as the Rodon path that we all thought (Sep. call up in the bullpen, then rotation the next season). I thought that, but obviously Fulmer is not as polished as Rodon is. But that was my reason behind Fulmer. mock draft 18. Toronto Blue Jays — Carson Fulmer, RHP Vanderbilt After being the closer for the first year and a half of his career at Vanderbilt, Fulmer made a smooth transition into the starting rotation as a sophomore. Over 10 starts, he posted a 2.00 ERA, 1.18 WHIP with 57 K/28 BB over 63 innings, holding opponents to a .192 BAA. He can dial up his fastball to 98 mph, and he adds a power slider that shows plus. His change-up is still developing and he has good command of his stuff despite the high walk totals as he is still getting used to the starter role. Like Brandon Finnegan last year, Fulmer will raise questions about his size (5’-11”, 195 pounds) next year, and many will question his ability to remain a starter. He has effort to his delivery but tones it down a bit when starting. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2015-ml...-mock-1-0/44039 but remember, there is a whole season of college ball coming up. anything can happen. also remember no one is wrong now.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) By rule, maybe outside of a pick high in the first round, you never draft for "need". You can favor a few positions if you think your system is weak in them, but you never, ever draft in rounds 2+ on what your major league team needs. What will happen is that some guys from those lower rounds will surprise, some guys will disappoint, and you do the best you can to find the surprises. Any of those guys are going to be so far away from the big leagues that it's literally impossible to predict how they'll go. I would not draft a 1b-only in round 1 right now, not with Abreu on the roster, unless everyone was screaming he's head and shoulders better than the remaining draft picks. But outside of that, pick the best mix of players you can get under your signing cap. Who knows what you'll hit in the next 4 years? I promise you the White Sox will draft more than 1 1b in that time, just not at the top of the draft. I agree but I would say, the sox should not address needs b/c they might have a superstar. however the needs of the system right now is many and not just 1 position or player will fill it. anyway, there is no real first base player being forecasted in the first rnd.
