  1. Gordon looks great in the bullpen, looks great in the warmup and often gets a quick K. Then for whatever reason the bottom falls out. By the way Foulke now has 14 saves.
  2. We are 14-26 in our last 40 games so we're close to where we were in 01. This team is far more scary though. Take away Loaiza and we're fighting the pussycats from Michigan for last place. The lack of hitting is mind numbing.
  3. I went to bed in the bottom of the ninth because I KNEW what was coming.
  4. It's shilling for the Cubs combined with the stupid condition of American journalism today. Nobody edits. It's probably totally over their arrogant heads how stupid they looked.
  5. IIRC the Mets had JC Martin, Al Weis and Tommie Agee. All had big moments with the Mets that year.
  6. Wow! Illinois is in the tank these days.
  7. For a combination of reasons JR is going to move slowly or not at all on JM and KW. His methods of running (ruining) his team have really caught up with him now. I have never liked this ownership group. Not even before they bought the team. Might have to take a sabbatical from all this. Way too depressing.
  8. That's what I mean!!! Can't BUY a break. Can't hit any more either. We hit .167 this game (5 for 30). Somebody please tell me, what happened to the bats?
  9. More good stories about 67. I still remember thinking after that season, how did they get that far? The team had no hitting. They did it with great pitching, smoke and mirrors. The 64 team won 98 games, was much more balanced. Should have been a pennant winner. Almost were.
  10. They are fighting with each other real vicious on the cubs mlb board.
  11. You've no idea how much I'm enjoying this. Sammy the sham, juice in the bloodstream and cork in the bat.
  12. I tried to logon but of course since I'm not a suscriber it didn't let me. I have a question or two if its not too much trouble cerb. The star rating after the state, is that an indication of how highly they rate the individual states amateur baseball? How many stars do Illinois and Pennsylvania rate? Just curious.
  13. I'm a Sox fan since the 57 season and if this isn't the most disappointing season so far then its damn close. As I'm typing away I think that 94 (the strike year) was most disappointing because for the first time in their history the Sox were going to make the postseason in successive years and I really think they had a good shot at the WS. This year would be second and the 73 season third. Team performance wise this is possibly the biggest letdown. The 73 team had so many DL injuries and the 94 team was stopped by the strike. The 84 team is right up there in the disappointing play category.

    Feds sell drugs

It's stories like this that turn many into Libertarians. What a Kafka like nightmare for this guy.
  15. Of course CW got it right, us "old" timers know our baseball history. Enjoyed reading the posts about 67. The Bosox, Tigers, Twins and our guys battling it out for the pennant. (There was no division play then.) White Sox lose the last five games of the year to end up in 4th. I think the team BA was .225 or thereabouts. Of course pitching was very dominant from 65-68. That was the last year in a 17 year streak of winning seasons, the third longest streak in MLB history. For me the real heartbreaker was 64. The Sox only finished a game behind the Yanks, and the Orioles were a game behind us. The Sox couldn't beat NY early in the year which cost them the pennant. However there was a four game sweep of the Yanks in August that vaulted the Sox into first. On the Yank team bus Phil Linz played his harmonica and got in to a fist fight with manager Yogi Berra who objected to any fun after getting swept by the Sox. It was a great story at the time. I don't believe in overemphasis on the past, but this year is turning out "bloody awful" as the British say. Gotta think of more pleasant times.
  16. Right now they're built for getting the s*** pounded out of them.
  17. Yeah it's been a real lousy week so far. I need my fix.
  18. Me too. It was out of whack for over an hour.
  19. Some of us remember the late 50's. That's really ancient but at least I can remember a World Series. a world series... now thats ancient.......... lol You bet and it looks like the season is just about in the toilet like in your sig.

    Off topic time

I'd like to join ya, but I'm not in the mood for the bitter political fights. The Sox are truly depressing and I admit I bought into the hype. Didn't expect a WS, but sure as s*** didn't expect this either.

  22. We moved south so my wife could take a new job. There was nothing in the deal for me so I'm currently looking. I'm in "age discrimination" territory. The economy where I live now is pretty brisk, but nothing has shaken loose for me yet. Everyone in this boat today has my best wishes.
  23. :finger :fyou Konerko What the hell happened to him?
  24. I try to go out of my way to be decent while still giving my opinion. I've probably been over the top a few times. The situation you describe Steff is a big reason why I don't post on Whitesox.com and basically stick here. (Still lurk on WSI) I hope all the hard feelings are smoothed over. The whole White Sox SS situation has been a touchy subject (among many others!) for several seasons. The team is imploding and everybody is getting in a foul mood. Yesterdays game was just a brutal one to lose. YASNY and CW are great WS fans in my book. Hope everything is cool now and I don't mean to ignore anybody else who posted here. Lets win one today, Cleveland is one of my favorite teams to beat. I remember the great rivalry we had with the Tribe back in the day. Hard feelings? Cmon people this is a f***ing internet site. If someone gets offended or leaves a site because of what someone says, its their OWN fault. Get over it. I'm not comfortable any where else but here and I make no apologies for it. That MLB site had some of the greatest posters ever. The combination of trolls, cliqueishness and mindless fights ruined the place in my book. They lost a lot of posters and not just because of hard feelings.
