Posting this as a one time coutesy is not going to hurt Soxnet, in fact IMO it makes you look good, like you're confident in your own site and not afraid of other sites.

Must be me then. Oh well.

Sick of it, disgusted with it and angry as hell.

Please please I want you to walk up to Ms. Lynch and tell her that she was not being held "against her will". This goes f***ing unchallenged?? Maybe the stupidist most ignorant thing I ever read on a message board. She enjoyed those bullet wounds and broken bones. And if they did you know what to her well she had that coming too right? This goes unchallenged? And I've been nice to this guy. I'm almost as big a dope as he is. It must be really rough the guilt this poster carries with him for being alive, healthy and prosperous. She wasn't held "against her will." Beautiful. If anybody on the left wants to claim this type of person as their poster child well then I hope one day you all have to face what Jessica did. Remember it won't be against your will.

Some day maybe we'll live in a Socialist paradise like North Korea or Cuba. Some day we'll be ruled by a benevolent leader like Mao, Stalin, or Pol Pot. Some day we'll be munching on our soy tofu sandwiches ( one meal per day only please comrades ) and singing glorious songs of the revolution. George Bush will be washing dishes somewhere and Al Gore will run the state owned rickshaw firm (the preferred form of transportation.) Our lives will be complete and we will all live happily ever after.

Two close personal friends (brothers) committed suicide. One hung himself, the other I consider a form of suicide, he literally drank himself to death. Both of them shocked me. Since they were brothers perhaps there is a genetic link. I think in some cases suicide is not just a cry of pain but the ultimate act of anger or frustration. A lot of teenagers act impulsively. Perhaps this was the case here. If he could have weathered whatever personal crises he was living this young man might have gotten past this depression. Whatever the reason this is terrible.

His motion appears to me to be awkward, not fluid, causing him location problems. Colon ain't pretty either but what a big strong ox he is. He lays it all on the line on every pitch. He always seems to have a little fuel left in the tank in the late innings. Screw the pitch count when that guy is on the mound. If he feels strong keep him in there.
-
Whatever happened to dusting yourself off and trotting on down to first? How many times did Ron Hunt and Minnie Minoso charge the mound? Many of these bench clearing incidents are ridiculous.

Ditto for me on all counts. By the way, this thread was a big hit wasn't it?

The Sox were at one point 55-30 in 2000. After that, counting the playoffs they were .500. They were 83-79 and 81-81 in 01 aand 02 respectively IIRC. They threaten to implode this year. We are living off of the glow of about a half a season three years ago. A desert mirage it's beginning to look like.

As CW pointed out to me I am considered "old" on this board. Am I that old? Does anyone remember when you could call a business or institution and actually talk to a real person who would give you timely and accurate information??? Now it's press one press two etc, etc, etc. I think they deliberately make it difficult for you so you'll give up. Some of these calls are important. I also love it when it you finally reach your party and then of course you get voice mail. Return your call? Hell no! So tomorrow it's press one press two. Yesterday I had to call in order to transfer my car and renters insurance. After I pressed I think it was 39 I was put on hold. I held and held and held. At least the Muzak was decent. When I finally reached a real person what should have taken 5 or ten minutes at best took the better part of an hour because the person on the other end of the line was incompetent. Very very polite and pleasant, but incompetent. Believe me I am polite and very PRECISE. If you can't understand me go back to grade school. All I have to say to the young posters who are the majority here, especially those in school is this: American business is all screwed up. What you are being taught is probably 90-95% bulls***. Please please from the bottom of my heart FIX IT!!! Now I have to make another important call and already I feel the pain and frustration that awaits me.

Yes I read that and I hope he has a complete and full recovery. Another part of my youth fading away.

Like I said before editing is a lost art in American journalism. The thing is the Sun Times used to have such great sportswriters once upon a time. Jerome Holtzman, Edgar Munzel, Jack Griffin among others.

Ain't it frustrating as hell when you know you've got a point and no one seems to be listening? I'm with you on Valentine. He's entertaining as hell but a 100 per cent con. Wonder if he'd wear a disguise in the Sox dugout? OTOH Backman might be what the Sox need right now.

Cerb you've got some good ideas and I like reading your baseball stuff, especially when you post about prospects. However I think JR's chickens have come home to roost. He was, is and always will be the same. Things can never be right in White Sox land until he's gone.

I just got out of Pittsburgh after living there for 17 and a half consecutive years. It's an interesting quirky throwback city in some ways but very depressed economically. I won't miss it much especially when I check the current status of my checking and saving accounts. I will miss PNC Park though. I'd be real interested in how you like it.

As Marv Albert would say, "Yessss!".

I was psyched by the Orioles series. I was so busy that I was totally unaware of the results of the first two games of the Twins series (good thing!). I go here to check things out and get the real bad news. The Sox are winning on Sunday and somebody (I forget who) says watch them lose 3-2 which they did.
-
One of the "free" papers used to do a "best of Pittsburgh" every year. Pizza Hut would usually win for best pizza and Wendy's for best hamburger.

This is a band aid solution. We are 15-22 against teams not named the Tigers. We are 9-17 in the last 26 games. Much more than this needs to be done to give this team a spark. The season is about to go in to the toilet. Nothing would make me happier than to be wrong about this, but I don't think so.

Didn't read the whole thread, but I think you just may be right. He seemed to usually start out with the real good stuff and then go downhill from there.

It was that charm that allowed him to rip off a bunch of people, go to jail, get out, and convince some companies that he was an ok guy so he could rip off all their pension funds and everything else. I here that Richard Speck could be real amusing and Charles Keating was a stitch. It's called a "con job" for a reason. He left a bunch of working class people in the Thumb desititute, all their life savings gone, their pensions gone forever, the places they worked, bankrupt. He could work the charm - one of the best traits of a confidence man. No argument here. By the way, didn't Keating get a reversal on appeal? I'm not sure, just asking.

I'm more worried about this franchise than I was in 1970. A long time ago when I was young and still living in Chicago there was this "establishment" I used to frequent. It was on East Illinois just north of Wacker Drive. It was called "1944 St Louis Browns". The place was real "rustic" you had to walk down the steps to get to get in. Drinks were stiff and the price was right. Everybody went there from highbrows to street people. Lots of news folks would stop by as the Sun Times Daily News building was nearby. The original owner dedicated it to the only pennant winning year of the St Louis Browns ( now Baltimore Orioles ). Anyway, I was just wondering, in a few short years will we have a place called 1959 Chicago White Sox? This team is really wearing on me, 45 years of rooting for them. The Sox are making Joe B cuss a blue streak and if this rant offended anybody well tough s*** it was my therapy.

Denny was married to Lou Boudreau's daughter. Hall of Fame SS Boudreau who was a long time cub radio man was from the same South Suburban area (Harvey) as Denny. They have since divorced IIRC. You beat me to the answer- McLaain does not have an outrageos sense of humor, in response another post - what he is, is a criminal. He ripped off a lof of people and there are places in Michigan where he cannot go safely because of the embezzlement he did of people's money. He is nothing more than thieving criminal and granted he had some good pitching seasons but as a human being he is lower than scum. He had ever chance in the world and yet he embezzled again and again and again. He is the pure definition of a con man. And I don't feel the slightest but sorry for him. He got away with s*** for too long because he was "Denny McLain." I am surprised that he is on any type of work release now. Boudreau's heart was broken by what a scum McLain was to others let alone his daugher and his grandchildren. He went out of his way to support his son in law until it became intolerable. Everything you say about him is true, but I have to admit the times I saw him in person or interviewed he had me laughing. Because this is the internet I left out a couple of Denny McClain stories that would put him in a real bad light. A self destructive personality definitely.

Comiskey I First Game 1958 Comiskey II ( But not The Cell ) Wrigley (It's True) Forbes Field Three Rivers PNC Park Shea Stadium Fulton County Stadium Turner Field Tiger Stadium Comerica Park ( I Like it Merry Go Round and all ) Municipal Stadium PNC is the best of the above IMO. I also really enjoyed the city of Boston and the Fenway experience. Fenway is a real dump, but a charming dump nonetheless.
