Billy Pierce vs Whitey Ford was always a big draw.

I see Downey's point but this team is not only losing it is comatose.

Ditto, and this coming from a family guy.

A long long time ago, in the 1970's to be exact a lot of us young folks were coupling without the benefit of marriage. Some even had a kid before tying the knot. Some of those first born were girls. I look at all "scientific" studies with a jaundiced eye. I'm not saying this is not correct, just that I'd like to have a real good hard look at the data. Some of the most famous "scientific" studies of all time like Mead and Kinsey who are still taught in schools were found to be scientifically near worthless when looked at objectively. Anyway, back to this subject. I'm actually a grandfather now (another aging baby boomer) and I can tell you in my generation most of us love our girls just as much as our boys.

We had one of the best pitchmen of all time. Harry Caray.

You're not kiddin'. Large chunks of the town are either abandoned, burnt out, condemned or vacant lots. It's sad.

Thanks! My dearly departed Italian grandma would have loved you. She had such a passion for opera. Unfortunately for her, no one else in the family did. Now I know how she feels. I'm about the biggest jazz fan there is and no one in my family cares much for the genre, although my wife will humor me and listen to it occasionally.

I never cared for the Reinsdorf regime. Not in 1981, not now. Not long after Reinsdorf and Co took over wrote Eddie Einhorn a letter. It was polite and civilized because that's the way I am, but in it I addressed my concerns and criticisms. He shocked me by writing back, also very polite and civilized in addition to literate and humorous. We corresponded over a period of time. He's really a smooth and likeable guy, a great salesman. Probably a motivational guy to work for, although you could tell he 'd kick ass if the spirit moved him. I really think that the many PR problems of the Sox were in direct proportion to JR taking more of the spotlight and Eddie Einhorn fading more into the background. This franchise is currently staring straight into the abyss. If you know your Sox history then you realize this is far from the first time. However there are other factors in play now that did not exist in the past. I don't care how long the lease in the Cell is for Chicago could easily become a one baseball town sometime in the decade. I stand by past statements that this year is very important. If Eddie can be a catalyst for righting the ship then I say do it Eddie! Time is not on your side.

I have met them both and not surprisingly, Danny came up when Roland was with the Sox previously. Danny should have gotten the job before. From my understanding, Danny was more Schueler's guy where KW was Reinsdorf's guy. Apparently, KW always hung out in JR's suite while Danny watched and evaluated from Schu's. I have spoken with Danny a few times since he became the Dodgers GM and other than having less time, he has not changed one bit. On a different but similar note, KW has always alienated people. From contract negotiations to dealings in general, KW is widely known as "not being a people person". I do know that back when the Sox drafted Kip Wells, Kip was ready to go back to school because he and his family had been turned off so bad by KW. Danny Evans came in and smoothed things over and got the deal done. Kip's dad told me that there was no way they were signing with the Sox if Danny didn't get involved. This is only one example of many stories I have heard. With all this evidence presented by those of you who are in a position to know better than the rest of us why oh why do some people refuse to see the truth?

It was a vicious wolf pack mentality. It's too bad because that web site has lots of good stuff on it. I read and I lurk but as of 3/27/03 I no longer post there. Only here, you're all stuck with me at least for now.

Whether or not you turn out to be right that was a really good post.

I thought Backman was at Birmingham. Nobody edits anymore in American journalism.

All my attempts of levity and humor have failed.

I agree, Almost asked my bf to marry me a while back... would have had to go to Norway or Netherlands to get it recognized tho How about Vermont?

Selig reminds me more and more of Vince McMahon every day. The ghosts of commissioners past must be spinning.

You mean I can still have some hope?

I don't like Yofu, I prefer real food like steak, ribs and mashed potatoes. Preferably downed with a cold beer.

Most of the guys on that list are not choke artists, they just played for the wrong team. Gale Sayers remains the most exciting football player I ever saw.

A local sports talk show host who was a Gore supporter (this is Pittsburgh) said that if Clinton was forgiven his transgressions then these two coaches should be forgiven theirs.

The whole thing is a tease. I wonder what's in it and if KW will be made to look like a fool ( actually he does that quite well all by himself ). I also wonder if Beane will live to regret that this book was ever written. If I were he I'd want to keep an aura of mystery about me. Everybody has the big ego these days and wants the media spotlight.

We got to have some arms down there. The game I saw four Knights pitchers got lit up including Rauch and Diaz.

You know I purposely avoided this thread for the longest time. Business is lousy and I have far too much time on my hands these days so I just read the entire thing. I'm not going to get into the gay thing I said my piece in another OT thread. I do think there were some incorrect figures and data presented at various points here. AIDS, % of gays in the population and other topics mentioned are not all exact sciences or what I mean to say is there is far from uniformity of scientific opinion on this subject. Anyway, after reading all this I'm left to wonder, what ever happened to old fashioned romance? That and I wouldn't mind having a girlfriend pulling in Steff's salary.

Yeah I'm so jealous that we don't draw 30+ thousand real baseball fans every game like that team on the north side.

Whew! What a relief! I don't look the least bit like him.
