During my lifetime: Includes stuff I can't remember Berlin wall falling Failure of the ERA amendment (I was 5 days old) 9/11 2000 election Challenger explosion Stuff I can remember 9/11 Princess Diana's death (more world impact than US) Jeanine Nicarico trials (not her death, but I remember reading about it a lot and the press coverage as a kid--it was terrifying and the subsequent stopping of the death penalty in IL--I think the two are connected) 2000 election The whole Ballyhou with the Episcopal church (and now the ELCA) about gay clergy (several of my friends used to be barred from ordination--and now aren't. It really restored my faith in THE CHURCH as an organization) Personally: Graduating from college Getting an awesome job Studying abroad Soon to be on list: finishing my f***ing Ph.D I'll leave the last spot open for the next awesome chapter

Student suspended for having a pocket knife locked up in his car
Soxy replied to Texsox's topic in The Filibuster
I'd say it was justified if he had it on him, but a knife in a car getting him a suspension? Come on. That's a bit much. I mean, a tire iron could also be, justifiably, construed as a weapon. And most of us have that in our car. Ooops, that was also talked about in the article. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) Are you serious? Do you not realize that half the s*** Obama gets is for being a narcissist, for being the world-perceived Messiah? He got nominated for the Nobel Prize TWO WEEKS INTO HIS ADMINISTRATION. For doing what exactly? In the past few years, this award has been given to Jimmy Carter for speaking out against George W. Bush, now, it’s been given to Obama for not BEING Him. These are the questions that are going to be asked for the next couple of months. People are going to start examining the man, and his accomplishments and when that happens they just might realize that, yeah, this emperor has a Nobel peace prize, but he also has not clothes Jimmy Carter got the nobel peace prize for a ton of humanitarian work. Seriously, that is one of the most ignorant things i've read on this board in a while (and that is saying something).

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) When one party stands up for what they believe and fight tooth and nail against the other party, I respect and applaud those efforts. (GOP and health care for a recent example) But when one party attacks instead of applauds or even should be sitting quietly, that's just wrong. One rabid republican just posted it should be called the Nobel piece of s*** prize on my fb. Yep, I defriended someone for a similar post. I can deal with snark--I can't deal with the total vitriol.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Really? I would think any Muslim symbol would trump it. After all Jews and Christians share the Old Testament. I would believe, if you are going to make a mistake, a cross would be the least offensive of the world's religions. And it is even an easier choice in reverse. A Star of David would be perfectly fine for any Christian, it reflects our common history. Muslims don't reject the Old Testament. That's why those three are called the "religions of the book." They are descended from Abraham like jews and christians.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) I'm not trying to be a jerk, but could you give me an example? The earlier sites of Laura Ingalls Wilder books. They were actually constructed in "Indian Country" which was illegal at the time. Yeah, that's right, I know my LIW trivia.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) So this is what Kap has been working on while unemployed. F. I wish I could use my old red "crusher of dreams" pen to fail that commercial. Ol' red is twitching just listening to that damn thing.

After being told about it from a good friend from college I watched For the Bible Tells Me So which examines the biblical perspective on homosexuality. It also examines how various religious families have coped with having a gay child. It was pretty touching and sweet (although could be really sad). If you're interested in the whole religion/homosexuality debate its an interesting movie to watch. ETA: Some of the people interviewed include Dick Gephardt and his wife and their daughter; Bishop Gene Robinson and his (adorable) 80 year old southern parents

Women get more liberal after babies; men get more conservative. And yes, I do read a science daily website. My life is like a rap video.

With Eunice dying two weeks ago, and now this I think all of that generation of Kennedy's is gone. Which is weird.
