QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) Just curious, how do you achieve a '5' ? Better than sex? Ha, c'mon. Maybe it depends on the partner?

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) Probably should have those signs changed. IMO the fine should be $500. Preach it sister!

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) What you are advocating is that as people grow older they should silence themselves for fear of mis-speaking. That is not a principle this nation was founded upon. It's not a sociallly accepted norm either. America is probably the most forgiving nation on the planet. That's part of our Christian heritage. As the country grows more literate over time it should be able to discern when someone mis-speaks. We should not be engaging in the habit of dismissing all other knowledge about a person to pounce on one statement. Any one petty enough to continue engaging in such practices should leave. The nation would be better as a whole if they did. In a better world the reporter would have immediately questioned his statement as he made it. The reporter should have said "Are you advocating that we should assasinate him?" That would have given the old man a time to reflect on his statement & correct/clarify it right there on the spot. Misspeaks are different than calling for someone's assisination. And there were no reporters when he made the comment. He was on his "Christian" show the 700 Club.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) But guess what? He's old. People should be given a greater latitude to mis-speak as they grow older. Those of us who still are blessed to have our parents around should appreciate that the most. Or, in their increasing wisdom acquired with age they should know the best time to stfu, or remove themselves from the spotlight.

Pretty good, I managed to get a good parking space by my office on move-in day (which should have been one of Hercules' labors). Although, I did just spill tea all down my front before our department lunch--but I don't really care, I have enough friends. My office is also clean and all of my books/articles are organized. And I get to hang out in the sound proof booth later today too.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) You might be right. I know most of them had been turned because of structural issues that the church could not afford to be repaired and were sold to private people. I think St Mary's is down 59 closer to the route 30 turn. And yes, it's ugly. Yeah, that's the one I'm thinking of. And it's waaaaaaaaay better now, actually. The tornado was the best thing that ever happened to that building (not the congregation of course, but the building itself). But the new inside is gorgeous, and the school is really nice too, the gym is gorgeous. The priests are bad, but it's pretty enough you can tune them out and look around.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 05:29 PM) That church is now a resturant called Bacci. Mmmmmmmm. And there was another church destroyed, the one my grandma goes to. Further down on 59. St. Mary's or Mary Immaculate Something. I tell you, though, that was the uglies church ever before it was destroyed. It looked like a dead elephant. I think that St. Mary's might be the one Kyyle is talking about.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) The sirens didn't go off. It came out of nowhere, literally. We live just about at the corner of Caton Farm and County Line Road now. Hopefully just enough off the "alley". Yep, I know exactly where that is. My grandparents were fine--and allegedly standing on their porch watching the whole thing. But, some friends lost their house. The most interesting story was one family had their entire house destroyed accept one wall and a china cabinet that was intact along with everything else in the cabinet. It was weird. My mom also has some bricks from PHS--she graduated from there.

My grandparents lived out there (on Caton Farm), so they were pretty close. I was going into third grade, school was delayed that year because there was some damage to our elementary school roof. I remember running home from a friend's house as (seriously) golf ball size hail came down and then sitting on my Nana's refrigorator in the basement watching a sapling tree being whipped around in the wind. To this day I'm always a little nervous when I hear the thunder. I can't be sure, but I don't even remember the sirens going off until the storm had started. I felt like it struck with, literally, no warning. A couple of my mom's friends' homes were destroyed, and my grandparents/cousin's church. I remember driving the 10 minutes to downtown Plainfield afterwards (to check on my grandparents and misc other relatives) it was absolutely unreal. Everytime I drive down there now I am ALWAYS reminded of the tornado. Such a different looking town, totally incredible.

Link Quadriplegic Woman Sails English Channel Tue Aug 23,11:09 PM ET LONDON - A British woman on Tuesday became the first quadriplegic to sail solo between Britain and France across the English Channel, coast guards said. ADVERTISEMENT Hilary Lister, 33, who is able to move only her head, eyes and mouth, took six hours to navigate her boat, the Malin, unaided through one of the busiest and most treacherous shipping lanes in the world. "It is very emotional for me. I was absolutely certain that once I got in the boat that I could make it to France. I am too stubborn to give up," Lister told reporters as she quaffed champagne after arriving at the northern French port of Calais. "I want to get able-bodied people to rethink their views about the disabled," she said, adding that she now wants to sail around Britain's coast. Coast guards at the southern English port of Dover, where Lister began her journey, said it was the first time a quadriplegic had made the voyage solo. Lister's vessel has been adapted to be controlled by the "sip and puff" method, allowing Lister to adjust the sails and tiller by blowing and sucking through two straws. Lister, from Canterbury in southern England, was diagnosed with the degenerative disease reflex sympathetic dystrophy as a teenager. She took up sailing two years ago as a way to boost her self-confidence.

My grandmother's basement, it was just this wonderful smell. When I was little I would run into the house go to the basement door open it, walk down two steps take a deep smell then say, "Nana I loooooooooooove the smell of your basement." I would do that pretty much every day when I went there after pre-school and elementary school (as I got older it became kind of a joke). Also, that plastic-y smell of the stores around back to school time. Leaves burning. Campfires. Cornfields. And, to dork up this thread. The reason smell is such a powerful emotional sense is because the receptors responsible for olfaction (glomerii, spelled wrong probably, but I can pronoune it correctly!) go directly into the brain without first being relayed through the thalamas (as in the other senses).

That looks really cool. Now I just need to get my friends to try it.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 08:48 AM) Deepdish or thin crust? There is a big difference there. Good deep dish is much more expensive, as there are a lot more ingrediants that go into it. But it also balances out--because you can physically eat less of those deep dish pizza. A small is more than sufficient for 2-3 people. I think a small at a place like Giordanos runs about $13-15. I think.

You'll probably change your major a couple times before you settle on something you like--so it's kind of a crapshoot. Seriously, just go to school with good overall academics and make sure you like the campus and people.

Yes I am. And, importantly, my family knows of my wishes.

Not ounting college, only once--across the country to NY.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) Heck I remember seeing .63 cents before the first Iraq war. Now we are looking at almost 5 times that. :banghead When I got my lisence in 98-99 it was 99cents/gallon

I usually donate when there's a blood drive (every two months or so at a church near my apartment). But I have bad veins and very low blood pressure, so often I'll get sent away with a bruise and no blood taken.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Both of these posts defeat the purpose of the thread. That's it, someone change the title to Hot Chicks III Training camp or something because we're bordering on a setup to a third Hot Chick Contest right here. Can I have a cookie for following the directions of the thread?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) Yep it's $1.25 a litre down here at the moment (3.7 gallons = 1 litre approx), so you can imagine how much it's gonna cost down here if it keeps going up, up and up. I've got some friends with me from France and she said what we're paying now per gallon is equivilant (in euros) to what the price is per litre over there.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) You're welcome. Did you get tickets for Saturday..??? No, but I was not-so-kindly reminded that is my mom's birthday. Which, is, I think a stupid reason not to go, but allegedly my whole family is coming over for a stupid bbq and since (as I am constantly reminded) I only come back 2-3 times a year I have to go. Personally, I think my fam needs to get their priorities straight. I'm still hoping ot use my tix for Sunday, but it's looking like I'll need to drive back that day. But I'm saving my pennies and might be able to swing an Amtrak ride home if my sister can get playoff tix. . .

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) 2 Kings 2:23 -- God sends FORTY TWO bears to devour children that made fun of Elisha's bald head. Exodus 17:13 -- Joshua with God's approval commits a mass slaughter. Exodus 32:27-28 -- God condones yet another mass slaughter of 3,000 people. You can even look at the story of Moses where he fights with the Egyptians. God hardened Pharoah's heart just so he could throw out all 10 plagues to prove how powerful he was. Now these are just a few examples off the top of my head. I can come back with more if you'd like later but I do need to get a few things done around my apartment before I go to work today. And let us not forget Job. Where God let Satan kill all of his animals, children, and give him some nasty sores just to prove his faith. Then of course, you get to see some of the first religious (at least recorded) hypocrisy when his friends come.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 11:43 AM) Soxy.. here's a good site for you to work with. You can put in your exact destination and it will calculate your travel time. http://www.uic.edu/depts/cjus/asc/trans.html As an example, getting to Comsikey from O'Hare on Friday starting at 4pm will take you an hour. Thank you! That's very helpful.
